#1 nomurakando Nov 10, 2008 19:11:04	Hey everybody, first time posting in the forums. I just wanted to know (if it is possible and allowed) how much does a graphic designer earns for the illustrations on the D&D books, just for curiosity. You know, can you make a living if you only dedicate yourself as a book illustrator? Thanks for reading, and sorry if I post this where it doesn't belong or if it is against the rules.

#5 Kaldric Nov 11, 2008 0:23:21	I doubt they earn that much at all, really. They actually produce content, and unless you're producing your OWN content, you don't ever really make anything but a salary. And the bigger your salary is, the smaller the salary of the punk MBA who SETS your salary, if you know what I mean.

But if you ask me, it would be cool to work as an illustrator!! :D A lot of these guys have second jobs, some even third. The fact is, RPG design rarely produces enough. You'll see some of the guys who work on the RPG also write novels. So in between books, they have to pump out novels of their own like crazy. Is it a fun job? Possibly at times. Are you going to make enough to own a mansion? Probably not, unless after 30 years. Rarely is sticking with a big company a good job. Hence why some of the DEVs strike out on their own once or twice a year.

I've heard of comic book artists that do design work on movies, musicals, television series, and video games. In the fantasy field alone, you've got kids books, magazines, and companies like WotC, Paizo, and White Wolf that need pictures drawn for them.
