| #1calronmoonflowerSep 24, 2009 1:44:34 | I came across this one another forum. |

That's not really an old fashioned looking spoiler. You can also just set your text to white for the same effect ->Text<- |

Does not work background other then white. |
| #4mudbunnySep 24, 2009 13:17:24 | That's not really an old fashioned looking spoiler. Before I ever saw a spoiler block on the old forums, all of the forums I saw had the "spoiler block" simply putting black text on a black background so that it was only visible if you select it. |
| #5drnickSep 24, 2009 14:13:29 | ^ This. Spoiler tags on every other forum I've ever been produce a similar result to above. |
| #6lokiareSep 24, 2009 14:39:51 | Hmmm...what kind of forums did you frequent? |
| #7drnickSep 24, 2009 16:03:32 | Quite a few actually. I've been forumming since the mid 90s. |
| #8fenrir7139Sep 29, 2009 18:57:23 | Yeah; the "sblock" as we know it seems kind of rare. I am sure there is some way to simulate it via html, which this forum supports, but I suck at coding, so... |
| #9whitebaronSep 30, 2009 16:03:19 | since the sblock can be done via pure css/html or eventually javascript, yes, you can restore it, but there's a problem. namely: wotc disallows all the nice bits about html, so you can't actually do this yourself. they need to add the ability to do so, and without opening security leaks, which is a lot of trouble - the reason why most other forums disallow html in the first place - the very reason why there even exist such a thing as BBCODE. |

This is true. Allowing HTML was a bad idea, as has been proven in a different thread where they messed up the formatting of the entire page with just a few lines of HTML. |
| #11Ash2DustOct 01, 2009 13:16:49 | That's great for actual spoilers and all, but most of the use of the spoiler block I saw was to reduce page space, particularly if the page was going to be stretched horizontally, and the black on black method doesn't really help that. |
| #12drnickOct 01, 2009 15:48:06 | Host a text file and post a link. Done. ;) |
| #13calronmoonflowerOct 02, 2009 2:03:30 | Host a text file and post a link. Done. ;) Downloading strange files is BAD. Allowing viruses onto your computer type of bad. If you really want a quick dirty fix for this, link to a blog entry. |
| #14drnickOct 02, 2009 11:08:25 | The smiley was an attempt to denote sarcasm. |
| #15whitebaronOct 02, 2009 15:35:32 |
the problem with this is, that i should not be required to do so. this is a forum, and it's perfectly within forum capabilities as has been proven time and again, to make large text somehow nicely formatted. |
| #16lokiareOct 02, 2009 18:45:17 |
I agree completely. |
| #17drnickOct 02, 2009 18:46:47 | The smiley was an attempt to denote sarcasm. |

Add me to the list also. Further, we should examine what actually happens on these forums. Unless things have changed, it seems to me that the single forum that has had the most viewers time and again is the character optimization forum. Post after post of thirty level builds. Good grief! If anything needs a spoilerblock it is that forum. What about all the game forums and game threads? Character sheets take up a lot of space. Perhaps one can use a wiki instead but what about combat round updates by a DM? Those will include a current map, all the monsters with their initiatives and often posting their stats and conditions as well as al the characters with their initiatives, stats, and conditions, and finally the actions of the monsters when their turns come up. Did I mention that the mechanics of character descriptions (including roll links) have always been kept in sblocks to separate and not clutter up the storytelling descriptions of a character's actions? Further, when using a wiki link within a thread switching back and forth is a pain. Sorry about the derailing rant.

| #19calronmoonflowerOct 03, 2009 3:34:57 | The smiley was an attempt to denote sarcasm. Generally that kind of smiley is for a wink/nudged statement not sarcasm. |
| #20drnickOct 04, 2009 9:15:27 | A wink does denote sarcasm. Unless you think it's 50 years ago and I'm flirting with you. |

wait a second ... text text. Thanks, man; though off topic, I needed this to post powers |
| #22calronmoonflowerOct 11, 2009 14:08:10 | wait a second ... You could possibly find a WotC article with powers and right click and hit view source to get the HTML code that is used to make a power chart. |
| #23drnickOct 12, 2009 10:45:10 | That's not a bad idea at all. |
