#1 aliothefool Oct 05, 2009 5:57:54	There are too many overlapping forums IMO. I don't know how others feel, so hopefully this will be a dialog where people share their opinions on the topic. The spark for this thread is the threads about the switch of the galleries to go behind the DDi wall. AsmodeusLore mentioned that there was a thread in this forum on the topic during a thread in one of the DDi forums on the topic. (I am involved in the same discussion in yet a third forum.) There are just too many forums to wade through to get to the topics I want to discuss. As an example, there are multiple overlapping threads in the DDi forum section: Dragon/Dungeon General, Technical Discussion, D&Di Announcements, Dragon/Dungeon Article Discussion, D&Di General, Digital D&D, Dragon/Dungeon Articles Errata,  Character Builder Feedback, Character Builder Technical Issues, Monster Builder These could be consolidated to Dungeon Magazine, Dragon Magazine, Character Builder, Monster Builder. 10 forums down to 4. You could even have a 5th for DDi General if you really felt a need, but it seems whatever would be in there spills out into other forums anyway. I'd still love to get back my e-mail forum summary subscriptions, but I'd really love to see the forums reduced to a managable number, and that's something I've wanted for at least a couple years now.
#2 whitebaron Oct 05, 2009 11:55:06	i kinda agree with the above, and want to add hat i believe there are lots more of "waste of space" forums to be found. (generally said, if it currently has below, say, 300 threads, it's probably worth looking at deletion/moving) it's about time to get rid of unused legacy forums, this board switch would have been the perfect timing for that. also, the forums structure seems to me a bit messed up. having a community business in every category feels strange, but is maybe needed - but is it really necessary to have a structure like category dreamblade - only forum dreamblade hq - then subforums? it feels like those are just there because they were in the old forums, not because they serve any real reason.
#3 CaptainX Oct 07, 2009 0:01:42	I have to say in general, I agree. There are so many categories of forums that it is really difficult to figure out where to look for a topic. Yes, I use the search function, but sometimes I just want to browse the forums for certain types of topics, and I have no idea out of all the dozens of forums there are where I should go. For example, there are forums for each different campaign setting, and a DM forum and a player forum and any number of others; where do I look for discussions generally about how to choose which campaign setting is the best, or if I would prefer playing in a custom campaign world? Trying to figure out where to start on such broad topics, or even more specific ones, is very daunting given the widely dispersed forum structure.
#4 whitebaron Oct 07, 2009 5:13:28	there's also a very useless distinction between "running "setting" and "setting-lore". most of the time, the discussions held could be in either forum, as mostly it revolves around - what can i do in my campaign, and does this fit the world?
