and yet my thread was deleted.

What exactly did I say or do that warranted it?

That i wished people can be open minded and not over flame people?

I understand this site has rules and is not anything approaching free speech but i thought if i followed the rules I could post without it being deleted.

What gives?

You reposted a locked thread, trying to restart a thread that went down in flames. That was more than enough of a reason to get your thread deleted.

I wanted people to know what i was talking about. Couldn't the moderator have just deleted that portion?

I didn't get any warning at all just poof gone.

that sucks.

so much for standing against flamers and narrow minded people.

Like I said in my reply...repeating the OP from a thread that got locked was not wise. It ended up having the life expectancy of a Twinkie at a Jenny Craig convention.

I understand how you feel. I've had dozens of posts deleted because of flaming and trolling. It's easier to shut it down than to strip away all the troll-bait material. Besides, if all the flame-happy points were deleted, all that would be left is unreadable gibberish.

Calling the general public of a forum dedicated to a certain game flamers and narrow minded is a worse way to make friends there than going to said forum and telling those people that their game sucks.

I'm not implying that i'm calling anybody names. I said i was standing against flamers and narrow minded people and if you include yourself in that group thats not my fault.

EDIT:

And that goes to everybody not just casualoblivion. I'm not saying oblivion is a flamer or narrow minded at all.

IBTL! Heh.

Making a thread about moderation issues is against the forum rules. The proper way to handle situations such as these are to PM/E-Mail a VCL or Moderator of the specific forum.

I have no idea what the previous thread was about, but I have to say that deleting threads is LAME; very bad form from the moderators. Exceptions of course for racism, hate, spam, et al. Even then, just delete the text, not the thread.

If a thread is redundant, stupid, flame bait, etc, then mods should just lock the thread and let it bounce off the page. If a user keeps posting such threads, warn then ban.

Deleting thread seems like censorship to me (yes, I know this is a private site and thus not technically censorship, still seems that way)

Just my 2c

VCL's don't respond to PM's trust me i've tried. (still waiting for a reply actually lol)

And to contact them through customer service is a pain i'm just to damn lazy to do but I was unaware that moderation issues is against forum rules but my original thread wasn't about moderation issues anyway but about people flaming other people unnecessarily or overly aggressively.

Either way the thread is gone and i was a little bummed at first but i'm over it so no biggie.

Take it from someone who gets a good 75% of his stuff pulled, this place is FAR from fair or equal about what they pull.I get pulled for next to nothing but people respond calling me names and their posts stay up.Even a post where a guy bashed religious beliefs got to stay despite me complaining that it attacks someone on a personal level.I guess you can probably use the N word on here as long as you don't bash the game or in any way imply support or fair use to those that do.

No kidding. What's worse, I can't tell you how many posts I've had pulled and been banned for, where they directed me to the ToS and what I did wasn't covered. When I mention it, I get "Well, we intepret it that way." These creative interpretations are so bad, that there is no way for me to know or not what will get my post pulled BEFORE it's actually pulled. I see posts on a weekly basis that persist without being pulled or edited for thing that I've been banned for. LOL

The moderating here is so inconsistent and outside the ToS, it's absurd. But there's nothing we can do about it but endure and go on, or leave the boards. Myself, I plan on just being who I am until they ban me forever.....or don't. I'm not going to make any effort to avoid violations outside what little they put into their ToS when there's no way I can know exactly what is or is not a violation ahead of time.

Nobody's saying this isn't a 4th edition forum. That's not even close to what I was talking about actually. This thread is in response for getting my thread about people flaming people waaay to much pulled. Your quote says it all. Why is so much poo being flung around by both sides?

The thread i was talking about earlier was heavily flamed because the poster was critical of 4e. Is that such a bad offense? Really? Cuz so far I like what i'm seeing out of 4e but I found I mirrored some of his complaints and found his post amusing. Is that worth having 10 or more people flame you ruthlessly with the intention of belittling you? I don't think it is and I said as much.

And the fact of the matter is, that post was about 4e and his views on it. Everybody has an opinion so shouldn't everybody get to air their opinion as long as it's within the code of conduct? Just because somebody has a critical or negative view on it doesn't mean they deserve to be flamed. If you disagree or feel the poster is being immature just ignore him and let the folks that agree with him or sympathize with him chat because we all deserve a place to chat on here. As long as the post isn't breaking the code of conduct (vulgar/racist/sexist) we shouldn't make such a big issue on it.

If I was going to post a opinionated review about 4e (and trust me I got strong opinions) what other forum should I put it? In the 3.5 forums? That doesn't make sense to me.

I say lets all be more mature and open minded and not just go into a flaming frenzy at the slightest provocation.

I am simply no longer interested in the opinions of 4e haters.

I come to this forum to discuss the game’s issues with people who actually play it and largely like it. Those who post here may not love every aspect of 4e, but they actually want to make the best of it, rather than posting inflammatory nonsense.

Why should I be open-minded? I have seen what has been posted by 4e haters previously, and what passes for fair comment in various 3e forums.

Do you know the history of the 4e forums? It started out, before 4e came out, as a huge, unmoderated flame war with a sprinkling of previews that were constantly ridiculed or defended fiercely.
As time has gone buy it has changed gradually and become a relatively nice place similar to the other WotC boards due mostly to moderators. However, the edition wars have left scars in many, causing them to lash out at anyone who talks about the same things that were argued about endlessly. In that thread you were talking about in your deleted thread the person realized that most of her problems was "edition shock" and was actually helped by some of the people. Unfortunately it also triggered a lot of unnecessary flaming that will hopefully completely end.

So basically there is a lot of bad blood on these forums that will hopefully end one day.

See I wanted to comment his post because I sympathized with the "edition shock". I had been there and done it too and I thought it was funny. I was saddened to see his post get torn to pieces and then closed for basically just venting a little about the new game in what i thought was a funny post. sometimes we just need to get stuff of our chests and then we fill a lot better u know?

And I pretty much didn't have an internet connection back in the flame war days so I don't know what the other side goes through but I can understand their being scars and stuff.

Hello. Please submit any complaints you have about moderation to the Customer Service dept. Follow that link and log in with same log in as forums. Make sure pop ups are allowed. Click the Email Us Tab and then select the Wizards.com > Wizards Community topic. Thread deletion is done by CS, not CM. Therefore you'll need to discuss this with them.

This goes for any and all issues anyone has with moderation. Feel free to write in to Customer Service and let them know your concerns.

I agree. It seems to me as well that quite a few people who like the game give knee-jerk reactions to people who critisize (parts of) the game. Some are trigger happy. Some are tired of hearing the same silly complaints over and over. Some assume the worst because they've been bothered by trolls in the past. (And there still seem to be a few trolls around, but far less than in the beginning) It's gotten to the silly point now, where I've run into quite a few posts where people add disclaimers on how they adore 4E and really really aren't a hater etc whenever they want to complain about something.
It's not going to go away overnight.

But still, I've been on the forums since before 4E. I know what the situation was like when 4E got anounced and later when 4E hit the shelves. The situation seems to be improving, slowly. The occasional unnecesary flaming is not as bad as the trolls and '4E is the end of the world' threads that ruled the forum(s) up to half a year ago.

For the time being, you'll just have to post your complaints in the nicest, politest, politically correctest possible way and report anyone who starts flaming, insulting, derailing, etc and don't forget to add the disclaimer. :P

"Venting", when it's done in a place where it will inevitably lead to a flame war, is also known as "trolling". Just something to keep in mind.

OK I have to say that this statement "However, the edition wars have left scars in many, causing them to lash out at anyone who talks about the same things that were argued about endlessly" had me chuckling in my seat as the visual images flooded my mind. I could picture hordes of gamers covered in bandages due to injuries caused by barrages of dice and miniatures hurled back and forth by edition haters not to mention all the paper cuts from flipping through all the books to defend their positions. Also all the battered DM screens that were used as shields in the conflict. Thank you doneisi, that one put a big grin on my face this AM! :heehee
