I've heard some strange things from a certain game shop owner.

Something about alot of the D&D books stated for release have been cancelled. Alot of things have been either pushed back, or decided to not even be released.

It is all a big guess, but it is assumed that Wizards is trying to sell D&D off.

Anyone heard any rumors about that?

three books and some other products have been canceled, but the content will be delivered in different ways (Via digital, probably through the magazines or something new).

Reasons? The reason given was that they have found that the more they put out, the less use it gets. For example Runepriest is the least used class in the online builder.

Since books have a fixed material cost, once you print a book, you can't unprint it.

So, this way they just pay for developement cost.

Maybe, but I have been told me over half the books will probably be cancelled.
They just have not made it official yet.

Of the about six D&D supplement books that that they had an the schedule three have ben canceled. Seems about what officially happened to me, unless you know of books that where not on the release schedule.

Every time someone has posted a rumor from a shopkeeper or store owner, or crazy hag picking rotten spuds out  of an alley ashcan, they have yet to come true.

I have noticed that these bits of information are rarely posted by folks with a history of participating in Boards discussions. It might not really be anything, but it is certainly a pretty incredible coincidence.

Are you dissing the poster?  What intellectual process makes you associate gabbiness with accuracy or being reserved with some lack of worth?

The post was a recounting of what a game store owner observed and that owner's speculative conclusions, followed by the poster asking, "Anyone heard any rumors about that?"  It's posted under community business.  Seems like a fair question.

My experience, being in the publishing business, is publishing houses are losing a fortune on some printed materials and are rearranging their business priorities into what they hope to be profitable directions.  Yes, there have been cut-backs but WotC has excused these as a shift from paper to electronic content.  But who knows.  I have not heard of any rumors regarding D&D being sold off and would be skeptical of it, especially if the source is a game store as my local one is known for wild speculation and inaccurate gossip.  D&D seems to have long-term profit potential and appears from the outside to be a reasonable fit for both WotC and Hasbro [others may disagree but before you do, please review what publishing houses have been acquired by what corporations; it might depress you but it makes Hasbro look good].

However, as you can see, I have not been a DDI subscriber for long, so besides gaming via paper, am out of the on-line community loop to a large degree.  Maybe someone else out here has heard things similar or contrary to the speculations your local game supplier is expressing.

Or because Seekers (and mine for that matter) experience is that often some game hater will make a new profile, pop up, post a bunch of threads like these, and dissappear. Why do we think that? Because many haters do in fact have several accounts.

Because what I end up thinking is, so this guy hears a rumor in a store and was so compeled to make an account and post his concern, because he's afraid the game he loves so much is failing. The game he loves so much but before this rumor from a shop keeper, never really cared about participating in the forums before this.

Yes, a lot of stuff has been pulled this year.  Much of it seems likely to return in digital format via DDI.

However, any speculation about the causes of that action is just that: speculation.  The only people who know what the long-term future holds for D&D are those at WotC and Hasbro.  And they ain't talking.  They have NDAs.

Perhaps. And if you read the comments from others who have quoted your response, you will observe why I am perhaps dissing (as in "dismissing") the poster.

I think the etymology of diss is disrespect ;) But yeah, I agree, definitely suspect.

Anyway. Someone came to the forums and asked a question. Whether they're trying to start a fight as an alternate account, or whether they're legitimately asking a question, the response should be the same: Answer the question, then move on and let the thread get buried. This successfully disarms any hate speech, and it answers the question, so we have both bases covered.

Do people subscribe to D&D insider just to make multiple accounts seem more real?

I can't say i'm surprised by the amount of extreme dismissal of what I mentioned, these are gaming nerds i am speaking too.

If anyone has heard any such related information, was a question. I was just curious.

My FLGS owner says that he can't get a great many of the supplemental books from any of three vendors as it appears that they are out of print.

You are right, and I stand (sit) corrected and appreciative.

Hmmmm, WoTC only has one vendor/distrubitor, Random House. All legit orders come from the same place. To have three vendors for a niche product is bad business.

Makes me suspect your FLGS owner's statement.

Not that I believe anything someone heard from a friend who heard it from a friend who guessed at something after calling a ditributor and learning they were out of stock (maybe).

I stand corrected, though they do get their orders from Random House.

It's cool. I wouldn't expect that list to be common knowledge. The only reason I know about it is because I'm currently doing some market research on starting a brick and mortar in my area.
