I would appreciate being told when my posts are deleted

Aug 05, 2009 16:17:43 So I like being told when my posts are deleted. Not only does it give me a better idea of what not to do in the future, it means I don't waste hours looking for something I know I said.

So please. Inform me when you delete my posts. It is greatly appreciated.

And a "some posts have been blah-blah-blah" message at the end is not sufficient, especially when the edited/deleted posts are buried in the thread and nowhere near recent posts. If you're not going to publicly say what was so bad that it had to be deleted, at least privately tell me.

Inconsistent is the only way I can describe it.

Here posters who have their posts deleted don't learn anything and continue to make the same mistakes over and over. You could chalk up the policy here to "common sense" but time has proven that common sense isn't common and experience has presented me with numerous folks who lack any form of common sense despite being intelligent people.

But the problem is, I have some trouble buying this from posters who will begin an incredibly inflammatory post in a thread with something along the lines of..."I know I am going to be attacked for this but I am going to say it anyway..."

I think in most cases, common sense holds but the posters don't care. There are exceptions to the rule as in any large enterprise, but the rule remains.

Not only does it tell the poster what they did wrong so that they can think of what they could do to stay within the rules (this is of course assuming they care about the rules), but this can also give a poster some personal evidence that they could be getting targeted by report happy posters. Over reporting especially if a poster is specifically always reporting the same few people, as in targeting them, can be seen as harassment. For the most part this is something that can be a bit hard for a person to notice and can take quite a long time to notice to any certainty or even gain enough evidence to present to CS to argue a good case against a harasser. If one is told as to what posts were modded and why then it would help one for instance make a case as to why they believe they might be getting harassed by another poster or two over reporting things. I see it as also helping CS out with looking into things for they can be given a bit more specific info as in to where to look and such.

Aug 06, 2009 9:59:53 I agree with dirtyfrank. The day that saw me temped also saw several of my posts deleted. I didn't know about any of them but one. Now I have evidence in the form of an email as to what one of them was, but it's only one example of many. If the mods or CS can look at who made a report, it would be very helpful to be able to tell them what posts were reported. As it stands, I can't do that.

At least two of my posts were deleted from a thread. I say at least because I can't remember how many I even made in it (beyond two) and was not told that they were removed. I found out by noticing that the li'l check mark was gone. I honestly do not think there was any reason at all for those posts to have been removed. I really don't. And, I'm obviously wrong. I'd like to know why they were pulled so that I can avoid that problem in the future. As is stands right now, I have no clue what I did. None. Letting me know would be helpful not only to me, but also to whoever thought it was bad enough to report and to the mods as well.

That is, they deleted something further up, and deleted your post because it related (or they thought it related) to the deleted post.

In cases like that it is their policy to only inform the root post, and not any of the victims of "continuity" deletions.

So in short: they won't tell us what they deleted when they post in the thread themselves telling us that something has been deleted, and only one person will be told what and why their posts were deleted, while anyone else that gets caught in the collateral damage is uninformed.

... I just love being informed.

Aug 06, 2009 22:05:25 Thing is that I was the only post deleted in regards to the discussion and I got no PM telling me I had my post deleted, and there was no post by an ORC saying that there were posts deleted or edited. Like I said...Inconsistent.

In my (rather limited) experience, you don't get a PM. The notification shows up in your CS account, under 'My Stuff' > 'Questions'.

I have received emails telling me about removed posts when a warning or (my one and only ever) temp ban was given. As far as just removed posts, though, I've never been sent anything.
