| #1Seeker95Mar 27, 2009 14:07:54 | As per the title. If you place me on your ignore list, you should not have to read my stuff when someone else quotes me. |
| #2samyueruMar 27, 2009 14:23:25 | An excellent idea. This should be implamented posthaste. for you good sir. |
| #3Ash2DustMar 27, 2009 14:35:17 | I don't think that's possible, since it's not actually pulling quoted text from another post to display it, it just has the quoted text in the post quoting it with hypertext labels saying "display this as a quote." Basically, once it's been posted, it has no real way of knowing what poster or post it came from as far as the programming is concerned, unless there's a major, major overhaul of how the boards work. |

I think there may be something they can do. When I quote, there is blue triangle by the quote that redirects to the original post. I don't know what they can do but I'm sure someone can come up with something. |
| #5mnemonicsvMar 28, 2009 1:23:24 | Agreed, it would be nice, though I imagine it might not be easly to implement. Like I just mentioned in another post, I'd prefer an "ignore IP" feature. |
| #6zammmMar 28, 2009 2:51:54 | It might be possible, but I'm pretty sure it would require a major overhaul of the way the ignore feature works. And there is absolutely no way it would be anything even close to foolproof.Like I just mentioned in another post, I'd prefer an "ignore IP" feature. *shakes head* That's not going to happen. It would violate their privacy policy by at the very least letting users know which posters shared IPs. |
| #7mnemonicsvMar 28, 2009 3:24:50 | *shakes head* That's not going to happen. It would violate their privacy policy by at the very least letting users know which posters shared IPs. Good point... never thought of that. Dammit. |
| #8bob_loblawMar 28, 2009 3:27:33 | Agreed, it would be nice, though I imagine it might not be easly to implement. Like I just mentioned in another post, I'd prefer an "ignore IP" feature. That would be the best solution. |
| #9rinonalyrna_fathomlinMar 28, 2009 18:41:56 | This is the kind of feature I'd love to have but doubt could be implemented easily. |
| #10calronmoonflowerMar 28, 2009 20:47:00 | Well one complaint about the ignore feature that I've heard of is that if a person on ignore replies is a subscribed thread with e-mail notification you still get an e-mail of there post. Not e-mailing posts from substribed withs by people on ignore should be possible. |
| #11cyberianhuskyApr 02, 2009 2:49:35 | My biggest issue with the ignore feature is that it still shows when someone you have on ignore is posting in a thread, and even gives you the option to reveal their post! how ineffectual is that? it should work the same way the 'hide signatures' features works : by completely concealing it, not showing an optional 'look at me!' box. The trouble with implementing any 'ignore' feature with quoted text is that it would cause a lot of confusion for people reading posts from people who quoted the person on their ignore list, or if it hid their posts entirely, the problem would be posts who quote several people, only one of whom was on your ignore list... |
| #12sirpatricshieldstrikApr 02, 2009 6:47:14 | My biggest issue with the ignore feature is that it still shows when someone you have on ignore is posting in a thread, and even gives you the option to reveal their post! how ineffectual is that? it should work the same way the 'hide signatures' features works : by completely concealing it, not showing an optional 'look at me!' box. Then it's time to use your other tools to ignore the poster by not bothering with them when they post. We each have the ability to ignore a poster, it becomes whether or not you choose to do so. |
| #13Seeker95Apr 02, 2009 8:24:45 | We each have the ability to ignore a poster, it becomes whether or not you choose to do so. I have the ability to fly an F-18 fighter jet. That doesn't mean I'm very good at it. I place people on my ignore list because they trigger unhealthy reactions in me. The current ignore feature implementation undermines the utility of the ignore feature. |
| #14rinonalyrna_fathomlinApr 02, 2009 9:57:56 | My biggest issue with the ignore feature is that it still shows when someone you have on ignore is posting in a thread, and even gives you the option to reveal their post! how ineffectual is that? I'm actually fine with that. |
| #15sirpatricshieldstrikApr 02, 2009 13:17:49 | I have the ability to fly an F-18 fighter jet. I have the ability to roll my tongue, dunk a basket, and pat my head and rub my stomach. Not everyone can do those things but I would venture to guess that over 90% of the posters who post on the boards can ignore someone if they wanted to, without the use of an ignore button. It's a nice feature, don't get me wrong, but is it really needed? I don't think so and that may just be my opinion and many people might think it's completely wrong, but why can't people at least try to ignore the disruptive poster by not replying to them and ignoring their posts? |
| #16vaalingrade_ashland_02Apr 02, 2009 13:17:58 | It shouldn't be that hard to do a script that looks for QUOTE=Trolly McTrollerson and changes the quote tags to an sblock tag. |
| #17Seeker95Apr 02, 2009 13:25:20 | It's a nice feature, don't get me wrong, but is it really needed? If it is needed by some of us, then the answer is yes. It is needed. I don't think so and that may just be my opinion It is not just your opinion. It is the opinion of a lot of people. But that doesn't matter. Having the ignore feature work in the manner I am requesting does not affect you. It is not like asking for harsher or more lenient language filters or the removal of avatars. The feature requests I am making only affect those who use them, and has no impact on how the Boards work for those who don't use the ignore feature. |
| #18sirpatricshieldstrikApr 02, 2009 13:49:52 | If it is needed by some of us, then the answer is yes. It is needed. It is not just your opinion. It is the opinion of a lot of people. But that doesn't matter. I'm not even sure how to respond to this and not come off as a complete wanker, suffice to say good luck in your quest for a better ignore feature. |
| #19Seeker95Apr 02, 2009 14:55:42 | I'm not sure what you would be wanting to say that would paint you as a wanker, but thanks for the good luck wishes. |
| #20mnemonicsvApr 02, 2009 23:43:54 | It shouldn't be that hard to do a script that looks for QUOTE=Trolly McTrollerson and changes the quote tags to an sblock tag. Seconded. That would be nice. |
| #21scipioApr 05, 2009 21:11:24 | Seconded. That would be nice. Thirded, there's at least one person on my ignore list who I will see his posts quoted and end up getting drawn to respond to them, even if I know it would be better if I didn't. It would be nice to not even see the quotes so that I don't feel that urge to respond. |
