Is there some sort of player finding tool in the works?

Even something like obsidianportal, but on the website. Just a place for people to post games, on a map, with a search tool. You could register there, express your interests, etc.

I just find it odd that there are independent websites with this function, but WotC doesn't offer it. I don't even count the classifieds they have hidden away in the forums.

Those classified forums don't really cut it. I'm talking about an actual map and registry similar to Obsidianportal and penandpapergames.com

It's just odd that this has never been implemented here. I've been searching for almost 2 years for a local game, and I can't find anything within 50 miles. Something like that would be very useful.

The other sites have a good tool, but not everyone knows about them. Logic suggests that people would check here first.

The problem I've found with these maps is they go out of date very quickly. Someone looks for a group and they find four or five people, but they never think to remove the little pin from that map. Wizards has a store finder, which will let you find Wizards Play outlets near you. Those tend to be more stable. They could open it up to individual games, but I think that would quickly result in the whoe tool being useless.

I think it is better to have a message board were people can post requests and you can see where and when it was posted.

I think the better solution is just to make Gamer Classifieds mroe prominent.

Nov 22, 2011 17:43:24 Consider sticking little slips of paper in fantasy and sf novels at the library. Also, consider recruiting your friends for a pickup game. There might be other, more-local, offline ways you can find local players within 50 miles of you.
