Looking for wiki advice on copyrighted material

For the last several months I've been collecting bits of information found in all of Ed Greenwood's Eye on the Realms articles from Dragon and Dungeon magazines. These include the first and last names of NPCs, the names of unique monsters (Dragons, beholders, etc...), the names of cabals, inns, broadsheets, merchant costers, new/unique Realms words and so on.

In addition to the DDI content, I've begun collecting similar information from Greenwood's recent trilogy of Realms novels.

The list is for my own in-game use but I've gotten requests from people to share it. I've not shared the list because I'd prefer people go and get the content so they can see how Ed ties all the material together when he writes his (very awesome, in my not so humble opinion) articles, as well so that DDI can be supported and we can get more of Ed's articles in the future.

It occured to me that a simple wiki list of the NPC names might be do-able, provided there's no direct reference to the source the names came from. Someone else suggested the first and last names be alphabatized.

I think a wiki list of Realms names would be useful to players looking to build characters and DMs needing a quick Realms-sounding name for an NPC (how many times as a DM has a player asked you the name of an NPC you just made up, amIright?).

So, in your opinion, is posting content from DDI and the novels--specifically the names of NPCs--in a sufficiently randomized manner OK/within the bounds of the Code of Conduct?

May 17, 2012 5:30:59 I think so. I did something similar for the 4e Core World, listing various immortals.

May 17, 2012 10:57:28 This sounds awesome to me, and if you did it on our site, I'd allow it! It would be cool if you linked to the product page on our site that the character was found in if possible.

Thank you wrecan and Trevor for the feedback.

From what you’ve said (Trevor) it sounds like posting the full name is OK and I can include a link to the article or novel that the name came from.

For the novels, I believe I also noted down the first instance (page number) where I ran across the character. I might include that extra piece of information so readers can look up the NPC for any other information about him/her/it the novel might contain, if they’re so inclined.

Thanks for your help and please let me know if anything changes policy-wise.

Wiki coding is not my specialty. Any advice on formatting is welcome.
