I just posted a critique of 4e only to find that it must have been deleted by a forum moderator. Is this a common practice on this forum?

That depends really on what everyone else put into the thread. If people just started screaming and rraving, then yes, it probably got deleted. And you may want to take a close look chances are likely it got put into the impressions megathread.

I wouldn't neccessarily say that censhorship is common round these parts,b ut more that screaming and raving are. there really isn't much you can do with a flame war other than close it down. But deleted seems wierd.

Sadly, it appears not to have been moved to the Impressions Megathread. I will recraft it and put it there next time. Thank you for the response and suggestion.

Unfortunately, yes. If the content is mostly a flame war, then the thread gets deleted. I can't comment on your thread because I didn't see it. It might also have been eaten into the mega thread, in which case its dead anyway.

The post in question was deleted because it was in the wrong forum and as such was eliciting a very negative response. Such threads, when in that particular context, are considered to be potentially baiting (even if that is not the intent, which I suspect that it wasn't). However, rather than allow the harassment to continue and potentially spill into other areas, it was deemed better to shut it down. There are plenty of 4e critique threads for you to add your opinion to, or you can start a thread in a section of the boards where it will not be as overtly disruptive.

Curiousity: What would be the proper fourm for that thread? I am asking this from the point of view of someone who read the thread.

I would have to guess either the Community Management thread or the Off Topic thread, if it was, indeed, that baiting and illiciting so many undesireable responses. My own personal opinion is that if a post is going to be so derrogatory as to wake the Mods and illicit flaming, then it probably shouldn't be posted to begin with. I didn't get a chance to see the post in question, so i don't know if this applies or not.

While I will be a nice guy and not give any personal opinion of the thread in question, it did elicit a wave of responses flaming it and poking fun of it.

I would cut the mods some slack until the edition war dies down a bit. These boards are seriously dying under the weight of traffic at the moment. It's hard for the mods to cover everything and keep things even-handed.

General Discussion is probably the best place for it. Off-topic would also work. The Rules forum is more for the nuts and bolts of the system rather than opinions on the system as a whole.

It's an understandable misplacement, but it would have gone badly.

I had thought he was talking about a thread on this forum that briefly existed before being completely deleted.

Yes.

Hey Dopple, just wondering, if you are so adamant about hating 4e that you have to put it in your sig like a slap in the face of anyone who might not be so inclined, why do you come to the 4e forums, other than to stir up trouble. I mean, do you come here for any useful reason? No one is forcing you to come to them, and I bet if you looked around you might find some people who would be willing to keep playing 3.X and than you could be playing instead of just annoying those of us who want to try and enjoy a new system.

Just wondering.

I would hope that deletion becomes a less common practice and that moving a misplaced thread to a proper location would become more common as people are earning since the forums will be in a constant state of merging or splitting. It is not always the easiest thing for users to find what the administration deems as the perfect forum for any topic.

Rather than punish the creator of a thread and potentially drive off users, it should be that threads are locked, moved to the correct forum, and THEN any inappropriate content be removed or discouraged form continuing.

Just deleting threads because a group come in to attack an idea only makes the group of attackers win by causing the thread to disappear.

This is NOT healthy for a forum as it is about the discussion, and means that any group can attack any thread or idea to have it removed rather than cleaned up.

I dunno. I suppose for the same reason a bunch of pro-4e people feel the need to put "4venger!" in their sigs like a slap in the face of anyone who might not be so inclined, and constantly tromp around into threads of people who have decided 4e isn't for them and aggressively convert them to the light.

Sorry, rabid attacks on both sides of the edition fence are getting very tiring very quickly. When I see posts asking for help in making a houserule getting told that 4e is perfect and there is no need to houserule it, I get pretty weary of the whole thing. When people say "4e doesn't support My Favourite Thing" and the suggestion is to "handwave it because 4e is fine and it doesn't matter", it's just as irritating as those who proclaim that 4e is solely the product of a diabolical capitalist conspiracy aimed to hypnotize the world's 10 year olds and ruin the game for Real Fans(tm).

Frankly I think all inflammatory edition-related sig material should be banned and removed, just like actual edition wars. It would help a lot if people would realize that one can like 4e without thinking it's perfect, and one can dislike 4e without thinking it's utter crap. Like any other game system, it has its good and bad parts. It will naturally fit some groups' styles better than others, and some people will have to coax and fiddle with it a bit more to make it work to their liking. I know that pleading with people on the internet to be reasonable is a futile effort, but someone's got to do it, and I haven't had my fill of futile efforts yet today. :P

Agreed that inflammatory sigs should go, but my point is, if you really do hate 4e so much, than why in the world would you waste time coming to a 4e forum, unless you just want to start trouble... Dopple hates 4e, we get it, time to move on, these are now 4e forums, why visit and waste his and anyone else's time just to keep telling people how much he hates it.

What WizO_Tao posted is incorrect. Unless the original post of a thread is a CoC violation, it is not supposed to be deleted or locked. If a post is off-topic it should be handled by the VCLs and not by WizOs. I apologize to everyone for any confusion here, I've asked the CS team to make sure the WizOs are brought up-to-date on our policy, as there seems to remain some lingering misunderstanding with some WizOs.

Thats sad. Guess we have to deal with the edition war threadcrapping when we just want to talk about the game, because going through VCLs is even slower and more unreliable than reporting things.

Isn't a violation of the CoC to make off-topic posts by virtue of their disrupting the forum? I believe this falls under the purview of Clause 6 of the CoC.

So it is very clearly understood, the thread in question was not deleted for "Off-Topic". It was deleted because original post of the thread was considered to be "Baiting" (whether intentional or not is irrelevant). In this case, the title of the thread was largely responsible, as was language openly inviting of "flaming". The only reason I mentioned the location of posts is because when determining whether or not a post is Baiting, context sometimes matters.

Wyvern, if there are any further concerns regarding the handling of this, or any other incident, please use the Community Service form and they will be handled properly.

Sadly, I did not maintain an offline version of the post prior to having it deleted by a forum administrator. I can assure you that it was NOT in violation of any user agreement nor did it contain baiting material. It was, however, an assessment of a veteran player who has now spent considerable time and money of your new edition.

Thank you for your straight-forward reply, KiRin, I will rewrite my original post and place it on whatever forum or thread you suggest. I feel that it's as relevant as any comment one might make to the positive.

Wyvern, I have sent you a copy of your original post and looked up all of the relevant details. If you have any further concerns regarding the violation, feel free to contact Customer Support regarding the incident and my handling of it. This isn't the appropriate venue for the discussion of disciplinary actions since I can't comment any further without violating the privacy policy, though I would be glad to explain my reasoning to you personally if contacted through the proper channels. Thank you for your understanding.
