Since it is becoming readily apparent that little, if anything, is actually "on topic" there, close the forum and move What's a DM to do? and What's a Player to do? up from Community since it's a more-or-less coin toss as to which of those two something gets shuffled off to, regardless of how much of a stretch it is. |
| #2ArtifactJul 14, 2009 12:10:52 | This is my chance: I second this whole-heartedly. |
| #3ZherogJul 14, 2009 12:27:37 | What's a DM to Do? and What's a Player to Do? are edition-neutral forums, which precludes moving them up into the 4e section. The better solution, and it's been proposed before, is to move General down to the bottom of the 4e list. That forces people to scroll through all the other forums, potentially finding a better location for their topic before seeing General. |
| #4LFKJul 14, 2009 12:43:53 | What's a DM to Do? and What's a Player to Do? are edition-neutral forums, which precludes moving them up into the 4e section. I've suggested that before, but the current "problem" is that nothing seems to be on topic for General, as a lot of threads that I would think actually belong in General are getting shuffled off to other forums where the thread is actually less relevant. Edit: and while we're on the topic, Rules Q&A as the top forum, regardless of the position of the General forum, would take out a lot of the clutter. |
| #5wrecanJul 14, 2009 13:12:07 | I've suggested that before, but the current "problem" is that nothing seems to be on topic for General very little is on-topic for D&D General, but although most of the threads are moved, a lot of them are not. Generally, product reviews, game design theory threads and D&D humor (like the Limericks thread) remain in D&D General. Almost everything else is going to be moved. I've considered making a stickied thread in General Discussion called "Don't Post in This Forum (until you've read this thread)" which would explain to people what not to post in GD. But since hardly anybody pays attention to the "Ask a Quick Question, get a Quick Answer" thread, it doesn't seem to me that Stickied Threads are particularly useful in directing traffic. a lot of threads that I would think actually belong in General are getting shuffled off to other forums where the thread is actually less relevant. Since I'm the one who probably requested the move, if you think something was inappropriately moved, let me know and if I agree I'll request it be moved back. I'm only human. I've made mistakes. Rules Q&A as the top forum, regardless of the position of the General forum, would take out a lot of the clutter. All it would do is move the clutter to the Rules Q&A forum. Rules Q&A is for quick questions and answers, not discussions. Already too many threads in Rules Q&A ask about DMing advice, House Rules and "Is this broken" none of which are on topic for Rules Q&A. Rules Q&A is where it should be. General Discussion should be moved, but that request was put in months ago. I am fairly despondent that it will never occur. |
| #6Seeker95Jul 14, 2009 13:43:34 | nothing seems to be on topic for General That much of what gets posted on General is not appropriate does not negate the roughly 60% that is. Deleting General would leave 60% of the content without an appropriate forum. Moving General is the request those of us that use General for the General topics favor most. |
