| #1emwasickJun 24, 2008 18:29:08 | A few banned users have multiple accounts active in order to get around bans on their main trolling accounts. Is this in violation of the CoC? In item 1, the CoC says:
|
| #2mortredJun 24, 2008 18:30:42 | Well, my take on it is, as long as it is allowed by the CoC, it is allowed by the CoC. There's no need to go and start muckraking to get people in trouble. Also note that the person in question must have a name that is nearly the same as the former one and they must make a link to the former name. |
| #3the_ubbergeekJun 24, 2008 18:31:51 | In serious forums, it is a *major' code violations, and those account(s) get banned IMMEDIATLY. Like at Alternate History. |
| #4mortredJun 24, 2008 18:33:18 | In serious forums, it is a *major' code violations, and those account(s) get banned IMMEDIATLY. These are the WotC forums, not the alternate history forums. The CoC is fairly clear in it's intent and is linked at the top of the forum. |
| #5theanthrodmJun 24, 2008 18:36:51 | Defending a poorly written law because it benefits you, doesn't make you right. Psionx, the CoC is poorly written and WoTC needs to improve their forum, or get the **** off the internet. See: Marriage Laws. |
| #6the_ubbergeekJun 24, 2008 18:36:51 | And? It's still at least in spirit a serious act. A finger shown at the mods. Talking of that subject.... |
| #7Loki5654Jun 24, 2008 18:37:38 | I am not a mod, but here's my take on it: You can report someone if: 1. Their screen name is some blatantly obvious iteration of their banned screen name. For example, if I were to create an account with the name "Loki5655" or "-Loki5654-" or "TheNewLoki5654". or 2. The poster has made an obvious reference to their banned previous account. This can be as simple as saying "Well, when I used to troll as Loki5654..." or putting "The poster formerly known as the troll Loki5654" in their sig. Those are the criteria I use and I've been reporting these "face-changers" for quite a while now. Also, I routinely add them to my ignore list. I have 2-3 iterations of the same people on there now. |
| #8mortredJun 24, 2008 18:38:21 | Defending a poorly written law because it benefits you, doesn't make you right. Psionx, the CoC is poorly written and WoTC needs to improve their forum, or get the **** off the internet. You didn't link anything under marriage laws so what do you mean? |
| #9ORC_ChaosJun 24, 2008 18:39:07 | Please refrain from personal attacks and flaming, these are violations of the Code of Conduct. You can review the Code here: http://forums.gleemax.com/community_coc.php. You are welcome to disagree with one another but please do so respectfully and constructively. |
| #10mortredJun 24, 2008 18:39:14 | I am not a mod, but here's my take on it: I agree with this. |
| #11apollyonschosenJun 24, 2008 18:42:29 | I say we ban people that go out of there way to silence other posters, when they could just hit ignore. It would up the IQ of the boards and put a stop to alot of the fighting, if those that go out of their way to engage these so called "trolls" were permanently banned for being the disruptive influences they are. And maye they should start banning people for posting stuff like "what someone else said" _-insert 10 WORD AFFIRMATION OF WHAT THE OTHER PERSON SAID- |
| #12gamejunkiejimJun 24, 2008 18:45:08 | I say we ban people that go out of there way to silence other posters, when they could just hit ignore. I agree with you sir, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. That's my verbose way of saying QFT. |
| #13apollyonschosenJun 24, 2008 18:46:56 | Please refrain from personal attacks and flaming, these are violations of the Code of Conduct. You can review the Code here: http://forums.gleemax.com/community_coc.php. You are welcome to disagree with one another but please do so respectfully and constructively. Let these guys do their jobs and please everyone else CHILLAX |
| #14gamejunkiejimJun 24, 2008 18:57:13 | If the new accounts aren't trolling, or aren't being trolls, then nothing in the CoC prohibits it. If they are trolling, report them. It doesn't get any simpler than that. /thread |
| #15theanthrodmJun 24, 2008 19:00:33 |
this is about the administration stepping up, and making this forum respectable. |
| #16the_ubbergeekJun 24, 2008 19:01:54 | The VERY ACT of going around a ban - to mock the ban - IS a provocation. |
| #17ORC_ChaosJun 24, 2008 19:14:17 | Ok... I’ve removed content from this thread because trolling, baiting, flaming, personal attacks, harassment, ARE violations of the Code of Conduct. You can review the Code of Conduct here: http://forums.gleemax.com/community_coc.php Please keep your posts polite, respectful, and on-topic, and refrain from making personal attacks. Please refrain from personal attacks and flaming, these are violations of the Code of Conduct. You can review the Code here: http://forums.gleemax.com/community_coc.php. You are welcome to disagree with one another but please do so respectfully and constructively. If you wish to report a post for Code of Conduct violations, click on the red "exclamation" icon by the post, this will submit your report to the moderators on duty. I think that covers most of it. Calling someone a troll is considered flaming. Don't do it. And please do not quote things that violate the Code of Conduct. Please Read It. http://forums.gleemax.com/community_coc.php. |
| #18trailfootJun 24, 2008 19:16:55 | Chaos... Why haven't you ANSWERED THE QUESTION? You've now cut posts in this thread twice. You're a WizO. You should have the answer. Give it! |
| #19the_ubbergeekJun 24, 2008 19:17:58 | But what if there is an obvious troll? |
| #20ORC_ChaosJun 24, 2008 19:18:31 | If you disagree with a WizO's action or moderation on these forums, please go to http://www.wizards.com/customerservice to file a complaint. If you wish to report a post for Code of Conduct violations, click on the red "exclamation" icon by the post, this will submit your report to the moderators on duty. (I suggest you refresh your pages as well) |
| #21gamejunkiejimJun 24, 2008 19:19:59 | Chaos... He has, in a fashion. Trolling is reportable, alternate names aren't. Hell, the account gives you the ability to make multiple screennames under one account as a default. It's certainly not against the CoC. |
| #22artytoo_dupJun 24, 2008 19:21:39 | You've now cut posts in this thread twice. You're a WizO. You should have the answer. Give it! It's quite obvious to me. Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast The First Stone. Except that those who were casting stones were not without sin, so to speak. But they don't recognize that "sin" in themselves, even if it's plain as day to everyone else. |
| #23dcandersonJun 24, 2008 19:23:16 | He has, in a fashion. Just because they let you use multiple accounts doesn't mean they let you use them to circumvent a ban. Or in theory anyway, in practice seems to be a different story. |
| #24gamejunkiejimJun 24, 2008 19:27:25 | Just because they let you use multiple accounts doesn't mean they let you use them to circumvent a ban. In theory, the WizOs are fallible, just like everyone else. The report button does get abused, and they know it. Occasionally one may make a mistake, and it's always better to err on the side of caution. That's why they aren't specifically prohibited in the CoC. So, if the person with an alt account trolls, report them. If they don't troll, you have no cause to report them. |

If you can just rereg an account that was banned what is the point of banning then? |
| #26Loki5654Jun 24, 2008 19:30:27 | He has, in a fashion. I think it's been directly shown that this statement is incorrect. It's certainly not against the CoC. In certain cases, it can be. If someone is banned and creates an account with the same name with an asterix tacked onto the end, then it could be argued that they are trying to circumvent the ban. That's a no-no. In other cases, the WizOs are kind enough to give someone a second chance. Start a new account with a completely different name and you have a clean slate. If you start revealing your sordid past, well you're violating the terms of their relocation program. Also a no-no. Multiple screen names are so someone can post as "WizzardLuvver" on the D&D boards, "ChewieismyCopilot" on the Star Wars board and "RedGoblinDecker" on the Magic boards. Not so someone can create alternate identities to provide themselves cover if they decide to flame or troll. |
| #27maltrokJun 24, 2008 19:50:44 | I had sent a note to CS earlier in the day about this exact thing. This thread pretty much confirms it, these forums are a joke, a laughing stock. Obvious disruptive elements are able to blatantly thumbing their noses at the CoC, the Mods, the VCFs, CS, everyone. This may be the single worst run set of forums I've ever experienced. And this bodes very ill for D&DI. If WotC can't keep these forums anywhere close to on-topic now, imagine what is going to happen when the primary product they are trying to sell is all online. If any MMO ran forums this poorly, they would collapse under their own weight. It's time to stand up and understand that D&DI is an online initiative and that means taking care of business in a professional manner. WotC may need to hire some people that have done this before. These forums are so understaffed, underITed, and underpowered that it is nearly intolerable to suffer. And that is at $0 a month. Unless something seriously different... categorically different is done, D&DI is going to be the single worst live launch of an online initiative in the history of gaming. The fate of more than one MMO has been crushed by their pathetic launch. Go look at Anarchy Online (and many, many others) and what their bad launch did to them. They never recovered despite giving the game away for years later. Pathetic. |

I think you are just whining because they don't follow your every whim. I personally think the mods are doing a very good job at regulating the forums and I have seen what bad forums look like. This is not one of them. Just learn to accept that other peoples opinions may be different than yours or ignore them, there's no need to be rude. |
| #29gamejunkiejimJun 24, 2008 19:55:37 | I think it's been directly shown that this statement is incorrect. Yes, it has and I retract that statement. Or rather I change my opinion of it. They CAN be reported, but they SHOULDN'T be unless there is a reason for it. |

| #31gamejunkiejimJun 24, 2008 19:58:46 | They're breaking the CoC. They should be reported. Banned users are banned for a reason. Not quite, because as stated earlier, everyone can make mistakes. And report button abuse happens as well. World isn't black and white. |

| #33mortredJun 24, 2008 20:02:31 | You seem to be attacking my beliefs. Isn't that a CoC violation? No, I'm just debating your views rationally. |
| #34dcandersonJun 24, 2008 20:04:00 | Not quite, because as stated earlier, everyone can make mistakes. And report button abuse happens as well. World isn't black and white. Only the mods can ban someone. It doesn't matter how many times someone hits report it's not going to do anything without moderator actions. If someone feels they were banned unfairly they should take it up with Customer Service. |
| #35maltrokJun 24, 2008 21:03:04 | No, I'm just debating your views rationally. Attributing my motivations with your own suppositions is debating rationally? Interesting. Well, to continue the rational debate then, I believe the only reason you think everything is hunky dory is because you are allowed to moon the mods and others and get away with behavior that would have gotten you banned permanently on any other forum. I'm going to guess that I've been foruming for longer than you were born, and more widely as well. I've seen badly moderated forums both on the overly aggressive side, and on the wild west side. This forums is poorly moderated simply by the fact that they don't have any of the commonly accepted amount of moderators for the forums as any other professionally run forums do. The amount of red tape that it takes for anything to get done makes the US Army look like a streamlined organization. The number of unexpected lengthy downtimes, sluggish responsiveness and abysmal organization of the forum that fails to serve the needs of it's fan base only confirms and contributes to it's poor operational order. As for opinions, I'm all for educated discussion. It's one of my favorite things, arguing about stuff. You don't contribute in this fashion: Nothing, because I, like many others will not be getting the 4.0 books. When did you read the 4e books? I haven't read them but I've heard them described... I liked the picture of the core rulebook. Other than that, nah. That can't be right because there's nothing wrong with spreading 4e hate. DISCLAIMER: Not that I, for even a moment (or ever), believe that 4e is in any way a good edition. I hate it. Bottom of the article (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/D%26D) And that's just from this underutilized account. The most useful thing you've posted is that RAW = Rules as Written. Thanks for jumping in and helping the community out with that one, I don't think we could have handled it without you. So, I'll ask you again, what makes you believe you can contribute in a rational fashion to the 4e forums, Psionx? After all the health risks a poster called "psionx" mentioned?!? No way! |
| #36thecasualoblivionJun 24, 2008 21:26:44 | I say we ban people that go out of there way to silence other posters, when they could just hit ignore. That doesn't mean the trolling crap deserves to be here. If CS/Mods/whatever isn't dealing with it, it just remains a huge stinking pile if left alone to rot. New casual posters come in and see it, and think this is the sort of thing that goes on around here. |
| #37ORC_ChaosJun 24, 2008 23:51:39 | I’ve removed content from this thread because Baiting/Trolling is a violation of the Code of Conduct. I must respectfully point out that this isn't working. There are several forum goers here (I'm sure you are well aware who they are, as well as their alternate accounts) that are continually violating the spirit and the letter of the CoC. On occassion, you ban them, and they merely make another thinly disguised identity and continue doing what they love best. Their latest disruption efforts are to go into topics with good discussions and start flaming and instigating arguments until the moderators come along and shut the thread down, which is exactly what they want you to do. In effect, you are punishing the people who want a good discussion, and rewarding the people causing the disruptions. I am certain you are aware of these things, but it seems you have no plans to change the way things are currently going. If this is the case, perhaps you should just abandon the moderation altogether, since at the moment all your efforts are doing is alienating the people that you are supposed to be helping. Indeed, some of the problem posters may even get bored and leave without the fun of actually using the moderators to help spread their ill will. |

Is there a blush smiley? ![]() Yes, yes there is. Well, for starters I'm making the poor unsuspecting people aware of what 4e is and how bad it is and how you guys keep slipping advertising into your reviews and comments. 4e is a terrible edition, I can't just let those people suffer when I can do something. I feel that I must act in the public interest and protect them from spending their money on something they may not want. If they do want it, oh well, but at least they'll have a complete picture of both sides of 4e. |

You've admitted no less than 4 times just on this account on these forums that you've never read the books, you won't buy the books, you don't know the books. You may THINK that 4e is bad, but really it's an uninformed opinion. You are speaking out of ignorance. Your crusade is born in the unknown and remains uniformed. Once again, how is it you believe you can contribute meaningfully to these forums? |
