Multiple Off-topic forums

May 11, 2008 23:34:48 It seems rather pointless to have two off-topic forums. If you really want it to be listed under the RPG area, why not simply use a link to the Rec-Room?

As mentioned previously, the question regarding off topic forums came up because a proposal by community management was to create separate off topic forums for each brand/community. My personal reasoning behind this approach was that each game community has its own culture and feel. A place where everyone knows your name, has the same interests, and common shared experiences. That is something to honor and support, it is in part what helps makes a community strong. My fear was that by adding everyone into one big soup pot we would lose some of that shared experience. That in no way means that there isn't a lot of cross over, but it is not something I feel should be forced.

I understood there had been some concern expressed about how this approach may fragment the community. We felt this discussion was important enough that we should bring it to the table for everyone to discuss. We will continue to bring these kinds of discussions to the table so that you, the customer, have influence over the community you helped to build.

May 12, 2008 18:11:35 Ah. Thanks for those links, KBC. I have to say that I disagree with the decision. But...oh well. I guess time will tell whether this was a good idea.

May 12, 2008 20:57:37 Seems like a bad idea because in my experience splitting activity between multiple subforums just cause all of them to die. The Rec Room as is doesn't get enough attention so this will probably kill it.
