My friend can't join this community and has tried 3 different browsers.

I'm trying to add my lifelong buddy and fellow D&D player to this group. He teaches web design and is working on a doctoral thesis in IT ethics at UNCG, so he knows a fair bit more about technology (particularly web technology) than I do.

He didn't say which three browsers he tried, but my guess is IE, Firefox and Chrome.

This is the exact full text of his email:

Apparently, I cannot sign up. I have tried using three different browsers, all end with "A technical error has occurred. Close your browser and try again." Also, the check availability option does not work at all.

Worst form ever.

As far as I can tell, the Accounts server has been down, or at least only intermittently functional, for at least 6 hours. Firefox simply gave up trying to load the site, and when I actually dug up IE 6 out of the "Junk I never Use" program folder, I could browse the site as a lurker, but got an error saying the server was down whenever I tried to log in.

The customer service message offering more details was dated 20 August. Sooo helpful. *rolls eyes*

It seems to be back up and running now, as evidenced by the fact I can respond to your post. Maybe your friend should try again.

Yes, you friend should try again. There have been intermittent issues, but it should be back now.

Because the current system is not letting me send a personal message...

You mention your friend is at UNCG. Are you equally local? (I live immediately west of Chapel Hill.)

Accounts had a serious problem today for several hours. It's back up now. We are working on both fixing the cause of the problem so it won't happen again, and updating that page to have more timely info during unplanned outages. Sorry! Ping me if your friend is still having trouble.

Thank you for your comments, and for the generally kinder tone than I'd feared. I have forwarded your replies to my friend and I'll keep my fingers crossed that he has no trouble today.

Public (read: Impossible to miss) notifications of such downtimes or other known issues would indeed be a favorable boon to the members of this community.

It would also help if you weren't required to be logged in to contact customer service. That means if something's wrong with the system and you can't log in or sign up, you can't get in touch with them for help through the link on the D&D webpage. I had to search the forums to find a post where someone had listed the email address for CS.
