| #1es_sparkyAug 07, 2009 17:13:08 | Howdy, I looked for a topic on this and used the search feature (which never returned anything at all - just a blank screen). Can I get my user name changed? I know it's possible mechanically speaking. I want to change my user name instead of making a new account to keep all of the threads I'm associated with, well, associated with me. Let me know. If I can't get a name change, I'll do it the awkward way. |
| #2zammmAug 07, 2009 17:32:19 | You're right that it's technically possible within the boards software, but it's not going to happen. With very, very few, narrow exceptions that don't apply here, changing of usernames simply isn't done on these forums. |

| #4ArtifactAug 07, 2009 17:45:00 | What about switching personas? I have the option to create another username with the same account, although I haven't used it, except to play around. For instance, my default persona is 'Artifact' but I briefly created another known as 'Major Artifact' (before having it removed). Once created, I was able to switch between the two by clicking on an account button at the top of the forums. I'm sure there's somebody out there that could better explain what I'm trying to get at. Alternate 'personas' are an option of the boards, yeah? |
| #5Hocus-SmokusAug 07, 2009 17:58:17 | How do you make another persona? |
| #6dalzigAug 07, 2009 18:08:45 | I think Personas might have gone away with the demise of Gleemax. It used to be available at http://accounts.gleemax.com , but that seems non-functional now. |
| #7ArtifactAug 07, 2009 18:13:29 | IIRC First, I log into D&D Insider, then I go into my accounts management screen. There's an option there to create other personas, with 'Artifact' being my default. Maybe this has been changed; give me a sec and I'll try and create another persona from there. Be right back ;). [Edit]Nevermind. That option seems to be missing from the persona menu now. |
| #8lord_karsusAug 07, 2009 20:39:20 | What about switching personas? I have the option to create another username with the same account, although I haven't used it, except to play around. -WotC erased the option of switching personas literally about a week ago, or so. A e-mail was sent to anyone who had more than one account name, I believe, so other people have mentioned. |
| #9neogear_dupAug 07, 2009 20:59:18 | well if this post is as Krog42 then you are right but if it's not then they are still working on the deletion of other personas |
| #10zammmAug 08, 2009 4:36:24 | It won't happen until after the 9th--they gave people until the 9th to choose the persona that "lives" through the change. |
| #11es_sparkyAug 08, 2009 21:29:53 | So if, a week ago, I had created a second name and then picked that one, I'd be golden. Sheesh. What timing. |
| #12ZherogAug 08, 2009 23:56:46 | Except it wouldn't do what you'd want; it'd be no different than using a different e-mail address and registering a new account. All the posts are separate, PM boxes are separate, etc. |
| #13es_sparkyAug 09, 2009 1:10:03 | Except that after tomorrow there ARE no separations. Sounds like folks pick one persona to be The One and that's that. Regardless. I can't do what I want to do. My login/username us tied to my account and Wizards has refused to transfer my subscription to a new account. Thinking of asking for a credit or something since I just re-upped. Wish me luck. |
| #14ZherogAug 09, 2009 10:15:18 | Yes, you pick one -- and lose access to all the others. I'm thinking maybe you misunderstand what personas do and don't do. Having multiple personas (currently) is no different from having multiple accounts under different e-mail addresses, except you can (in theory*) switch between them easier. That's it. If I'm logged in as Zherog, I can't edit posts made under any of my other personas; you don't know that posts made by my personas were made by me; post counts are maintained separately; and so on. * I say "in theory" because it's never actually worked for me. In order for me to switch personas, I actually have to log out and log back in. Only then can I actually switch personas. If you want to change your name, your only option is to make a new account. That was true a few weeks ago when personas were still "active" and it's true today. |
| #15keithpAug 27, 2009 21:02:56 | It looks my name got mangled in the transition. It used to be KeithP, but the P has become a p. I wonder if it is possible to change it back. |
