New forum for private campaigns

Jan 28, 2009 11:20:54 Hi. This is obviously my first post here. I am advertising for another forum, but let me be clear that my intent IS NOT to take anyone away from this forum. My goal is to offer a supplement to a few people who may want it. Let me begin by explaining why I have a forum to talk about.

I run a campaign and I've been using email to stay in contact with my players. This was somewhat of a pain for those who are working. Then I would keep a log of what happened in each session for them on my own web page. They could not comment, and they wanted to. I tried a blog, but it wasn't the format I wanted.

I wanted my own private subforum where only myself and my players could post. I wanted a thread for when we were meeting, threads for logging our campaign, threads for discussing house rules, etc. I asked a friend of mine who runs a car forum (www.AWDPirates.net) if he could create such a subforum for us on that. He said he would, but he asked if anyone else would be interested in the same thing.

I honestly don't know, but we created a whole new forum with the thought that others might be interested. If it's just my group, fine. If a few others want to join, great. The basic premise is that the DM will request a subforum to be created. He may request what level of privacy he wants. I have mine set to such that all registered users may view it, but only my party may post in it. The party may use it for whatever they want so long as it is remotely gaming related. Moderators will of course be able to view everything to make sure nothing illegal is happening.

The forum is The Green Hat. I am running 3.5ed, but it is open to any sort of gaming system out there. Right now the forum is empty except for my players discussing what it should look like. I don't know exactly how it will evolve as that depends on the response.

I am new to this forum, but I am not new to forums. I know some people will feel the need to get on my case about announcing a new forum on one that already exists. Feel free to do so.

If it's the latter, it doesn't. I don't want a dedicated thread, I want a dedicated subforum. And that's what I made. I have a thread for each session, I have a thread for meeting times, and I have a thread for random crap to talk about.

If it's the former, it looks like it would get shot down quickly. I'm not sure where to put that into the general mess.

Jan 29, 2009 17:13:53 I have a hunch Cal misunderstood your purpose, and thought you were looking for a place for play-by-post rather than advertising an off-site location to do so.

Thanks. I figured a few people might be interested. I don't think it'll ever be a huge forum, but I think it's a great format to handle six guys who suck with email.
