New Forum--Skill and Feat Discussion

Oct 20, 2008 12:08:35 Would it be at all possible for a new 4e forum to created for the discussion of skills, skill challenges, and, to a lesser extent, feats. In general, it would be for the discussion of non-combat tactics, similar to the combat forum.

The issue I have with the current layout is that, whether by accidental design or simply how the community has implemented them, the current forums don't encompass topics such as:

"How could I make this skill challenge better?"
"What kind of skill should I use in this situation?"
"Is this a logical new use to add to this skill?"
"Would this new implementation of skill challenges work?"

The General Board seems more to be about the culture of the game and general impressions, not about specific rules discussion. Conversely, the Rules Q&A board seems like it should focus on interpretation and adjudication questions of the rules text, not on general discussion of skills ideas. The various role boards are focused on classes and how to use them, not on general skill use. The What's a DM to Do? board is very cluttered already, and taking this broad topic to a new board would help that congestion, as it could be filed elsewhere. Lastly, the Homebrew board doesn't seem to fit, as this isn't really making new material.

There is a section for equipment and rituals, why can't there be one for skills and feats general discussion?

Oct 20, 2008 13:35:10 I agree with this. I'd also add that discussions of Skill Challenges and Ability Scores (St, Cn, Dx, In, Ws, Ch) should be include as well.

Call it Skill Challenges and Feats, and have the forum description mention Ability Scores and you would be set!

I'd also break out the Character Building forums into one section called (appropriately) Character Building, because the Fundamentals section si already a bit unwieldy. The forums would be Controllers, Defenders, Leaders, Strikers, and Multiclassing, Paragon Paths and Epic Destinies

A Skills and Feats Forum would also help counteract the idea that 4E is nothing but hack'n'slash 24/7.
