My initial thought was that it was someone trying to steal my account details, as the possibility that I haven't logged in during the past year is absurd. I'm logged in on multiple computers weekly.

Anyone receive these?

I just received the message also. I'm a regular here. I suspect it may be phishing, but perhaps it's some sort of latent Gleemax thing that suddenly woke up.

Just got the very same message. When I clicked on the 'Click here to reactivate' link, it sent me to the Wizards forum page. Sounds like a glitch, although I'll be incredibly upset if my account gets deleted.

...Yet, while it has been a few weeks, it has NOT been a year. Any one have any idea what this is about? Is there a bug in there account system? Should I contact someone to let them know that they are sending out these messages in error? If so, who should be contacted?

Probably looking to snag peoples insider login/passwords

I got it, and clicked the proffered link. It did in fact bring me here. So if it's phishing, its not obvious what they are phishing for.

My guess was that our accounts got duplicated somehow when they switched over to Gleemax, and the dup account has been idle.

I got one too. What's hilarious is that when I get these types of emails from other sites I assume it's phishing. But with the one from Wizards, I assumed their system screwed up.

I got this message, too. But since I logged in yesterday, phishing was on my mind and I avoided clicking through the links to log in.

The forums were taking forever to load and I couldn't reply for a few minutes, so maybe it's just a glitch (I hope so!).

Looking back at the email, I'm positive it's legit, and I've seen some extremely well done phishing mails that were supposed to be from PayPal. There's always something they do slightly wrong that tips you off - I'm sure this is just an error. I'm not DDI anyway, so if I'm wrong, BFD.;)

When did we all redo our accounts for the Gleemax switchover? Was that just about say, a year ago? I wonder if our "old" accounts (from before the switchover) are still in the system somewhere, and since we're all using our "new" accounts, they're sitting idle?

Same problem here, and along with that, an inane "July 21st" deadline to reactivate my account.

Hello, WotC, it's convention season. I was just out of town for ten days, and I'm off to Comicon next week, and when that's going on, I have better things to do than log in to forums because some incompetent programmer got their electronic knickers in a twist.

I should probably ask the booth staff at Comicon in person. I'm certain they won't know, but I'm betting it will get back to the person responsible.

My initial thought was that it was someone trying to steal my account details

It's a very good thought, especially since the links in that email don't go to an official wizards site. Instead, they go to http://wizards.custhelp.com/rd?1=AvcG~wr6Dv8SgDD7GoEe~yL~Jvsq~xn~&2=282 which, as far as I know, could be anything. Turns out if you click them you get redirected to the wizards webpage... but I only clicked them AFTER I saw this post, just to see what would happen.

If anyone from wizards is watching this thread, please get that fixed. "custhelp.com" looks like a scam at first glance to anyone who knows what to look for. Plus the fact that the email originates from yet another unknown entity, "rightnowtech" makes it seem even more suspicious. Maybe I'm too paranoid about phishing, but you'd think a third-party customer service firm would use official email addresses from the company they're representing before asking that company's users to click on some links to provide their login and password.

This is why phishing is such a successful enterprise all over the world, because the legitimate emails look the same as the illegitimate ones.

All of these are great points. For those who use the help system, these things look normal; for those who've never logged into the Customer Service site, they certainly have the Hallmarks of a phishing scam.

Anybody can access the customer service site by scrolling to the bottom of any forum page and clicking the "Contact Us" link. The login and password for that site should be the same as your forum account. Once you're in there, you'll see the URL and see the RightNowTech logo on the page.

Just thought I'd post this, in case anyone is having problems logging in since the emails have been sent out. I was logged out today and the log-in server didn't work for me, at first. I had been logged in for 2 weeks, so being logged out was out of the ordinary.

I basically cleaned house on the PC: Deleted all 'cookies', cleaned up the hardrive of odds-n-end online files, erased 'online history', and so on. Then, when I came to the forums, I was logged out but was able to log back in without a hitch.

So, if you've been logged out and are reading this post as a 'guest' ;), try cleaning house first, then come back and try signing in.

It's not so much this site that people are phishing for but passwords. Often times people will use the same passwords on multiple sites. So someone gets your password to this site and uses it to try and hack into you bank account or other accounts you have that are equally as damaging if in the wrong hands.

Lots of people use a single ID and password for everything. So if you (a hacker) get the ID and password and then start guessing where they log into...

(I do have a single ID and password... for about a half-dozen BULLETIN BOARDS. All my financials and anything else I would really care to secure is tucked away safely behind other security codes.)

Alternatively, you could use the link to plant a keylogger on their machine (and then redirect them to where you claimed your link would take them)...
