| #1odonabhan1132Jul 01, 2010 11:08:11 | Just did the fourth encounters fight yesterday, having wiped on the third one with the poisonous barbed wire protecting the heavy cannons. We actually almost made it through that so I wont complain, just mentioned it to say we were at full strength cause we had fresh guys. What happened... we showed up, no pregen can detect the suprize incomming, all mobs got into position, beat our init, and burst attacked us three consecutive times for 9d6+9 total and we went home without ever having a turn. Wooo what fun, glad I bothered comming down to the shop for that.. In all seriousness though, Im a gamer and cant be disuedded by this kind of thing but if you want to encourage new players to try it out this set of fights is horrible for that the only thing they learn is that you can never be heroes cause you die at least half the time, the evil in the game is too much for players to handle cause random dust devils (the phenominon not any kind of fiend ) can decimate you, and the sole purpose of the game is to have players sit and watch passively as this happens cause you are lucky to get a turn. What is up with that wizards, if nothing else hire gamers in advertising so they can catch this and say its counterproductive to teh goal of hooking new players. |

He had to sit out of the rest of the game and will be using a different character next time. In the first round. Two unconcious. Everyone blinded. By the end, everyone had gone down at least once, and most people don't have ANY healing surges left. The guy who died was a long time DnD player I think. (He usually DM's one of the two groups there usually is but we had to meld groups due to low turnout last time) He looked very bummed. To put it mildly. I felt really bad for him being ejected from the game never getting to perform a single action. |

I will bump my response. You are having DM's that are not following or at the least not reading the tactics for the combats. Only the Dust Devils go in the Surprise round. And their target is Rolo (or whatever his name is). They are not concerned about the PC's at all unless they engage them. Which means NO PC should have been attacked in the surprise round. When I ran the session I had the Ssuran direct the Dust Devils to attack the arcane PC's who were openly using their powers. This was of course after the surprise round already happened. Yuka used his Grab powers to good effect on the DD's and we lost 0 characters in the combat. |
