Okay, that was cute. Now uncensor 'GD'.

It wasn't censored a week ago and it certainly isn't a word that needs to be censored. They get away with it on daytime television for crying out loud.

Does that mean the censor 'GD' or the phrase you are representing with the letters?

Don't recall ever having a need for GD. One curse that does serve me well though is "Father Mocker"; you'd be surprised how often that one fits my mood ;).

Well gee, ok, but its done now. Live with it. I find it highly unlikely that it is somehow an intrinsic part of the way you conduct discourse. If it is that would be most distressing.

It does seem a little ridiculous to me, but whatever. If I can say "God Damn", I don't really care if ******* is blocked out, seeing as I can still get my point across with just a space bar stroke. Plus, to get the feeling of GD without spaces, you could just go: "Gawdamn!" or something similar.

(Besides, its not even a word; I usually run my posts through IE Spell-Checker, and Un-Spaced GD was wrong! If Bill Gates decrees it, we must obey! :P)

Shouldn't it be hyphenated? God-damned?

I don't much care but I would like to know in what context can that phrase be used and still be acceptable within the bounds of the CoC paragraph below?

Do not use, post, distribute or link to obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, graphically or gratuitously violent, derogatory, demeaning, malicious, defamatory, abusive, offensive, hateful or discriminatory language or content. This includes "masking" language by using alternative characters/spelling/spacing to get around profanity filters or claims of profanity filter "testing."

Wouldn't enforcement of that be left to a moderator of some sort?

Wait, what am I thinking, they're too busy snuffing out all traces of religious or political discussion from the Off-Topic forum to enforce the CoC.

The only technique available to VCLs for the enforcement of the CoC is the same as every other user on these boards: The Report This Post button found next to each post. And VCLs who report posts aren't given any favourite treatment or anything like that. Our reports are treated the same as everybody else and given the same priority and consideration.

Example: "I god damn agree."

That sentence is horrible. Grammatically it makes no sense. It should read "I agree, god damn it", "God damn it, I agree", or even "I, God damned, agree". If you're going to pepper your language with expletives, the least you could do is use them in the right place and tense.

I would not be shocked or offended by the word . I was however a little surprised by the picture of the ***** in the Wiki article. I mean, god damn, did they have to make it so large and in-your-face? It was half the width of the god damn wiki page!

It's also about usefulness in a conversation. Example:

"The human ***** is made up of three columns of tissue: two corpora cavernosa lie next to each other on the dorsal side and one corpus spongiosum lies between them on the ventral side."

My point is that we can bleep out our own swear words. I mean, come on, folks. You're all supposed to know the rules. If they want to censor stuff, then fine, but that means that we have a responsibility to put in the buzzing sound ourselves, be it a bunch of asterisks, or a bleepity bleeping series of bleeping bleeps!

I'm actually kind of appalled that staff chooses to assume that people will be A) irresponsible and B) stupid in that we can't understand that some things are offensive to people.

There are a lot of words you can't say on television. Perhaps these folks should just Xerox George Carlin's 500 word list and bleep them all out.
