#1 Therise Dec 20, 2009 19:34:55	I need to make sure this isn't just me, or some local error. In this*** forum, if you go to page 62, 61... all of the topics (which I know at one point were active, highly posted topics) now appear to have "0 posts" in their count.  Trying the links to them, all of their posts seem to be deleted. This seems like a lot of empty threads.  Are these threads being deleted on purpose, or for lack of activity?  Or is this just some weird local error that I'm having? I know most people don't go beyond page one of the posts in any given forum... but would you check and see if you get the same thing on the final pages?  In this forum, I get "0 posts" on half of page 55, and all of pages 56-62.  That's a lot of empty/deleted posts, imo. If it's a general phenomenon, or if threads are being deleted on purpose for lack of activity, we will be losing a lot of information threads (like early Ask-An-Author threads, or other info posts).  If that's happening, and it's not just me... and if WotC doesn't intend for it to happen (or if they don't know), then I'll post about it on Community Business. ***EDIT:  I didn't realize this was moved.  The original forum I was talking about were the Forgotten Realms forum pages.  Specifically, this thread was on the Realmslore subforum.  Just a quick edit here for clarity, since I'm talking about page numbers above.
#2 lord_karsus Dec 20, 2009 21:37:27	-When the boards got updated back in August or whenever, seemingly, a lot of messed up stuff happened. Old threads that were locked got unlocked (entire sections that were locked got unlocked!). Screen names that had been banned got unbanned. Subscriptions for old, old, old threads went spastic, and disappeared. I know, like the day after things went back on, or two days, whenever it was, when I went back to see what was up, all of my subscriptions were gone- some of them dating back to like 2004. That aggrivated me, obviously. I don't know if that stuff is all gone, permanently, or only temporary, or whatever. Given the...level of confidence that I have in the WotC website team, for various reasons, I don't necessarily know if they know, either. Edit: Nevermind. I saw this was answered elsewhere...
#3 dookies_altar_ego Dec 22, 2009 0:21:05	Well, you've been on the prowl and I not. Point me to the answer--it may well be a fabricated lie. For the most part, neither Wizards, nor the developers they hired to design these boards, knew what they were getting into from the start. Nor did either side seem to really care to ask. We, the posters, were an afterthought.  Therise is probably correct in her assessment.  The developers set a page count limit of 60 and simply didn't import anything into the new DB from the old that went beyond 60 pages.  Could they? Of course. But, either Wizards didn't care or the developers didn't want to waste time with TRIM. That's both a bit more time and money, you see.
#4 Webster Dec 26, 2009 10:42:15	That's clearly not true. Wizards DOES care. If they didn't they could have just as easily decided to wipe the boards clean and not make any attempt to save anything. But, because they care they know people wanted to keep posts they've already made.

Give a 7-day notice so that those who have posts they really want to save have sufficient time to do so. Then wipe the Boards clean. The posts people cared so much about would be posted, often without all the junk that invades most threads. And then the answer to "why can't I find X anymore?" would be "the Boards were wiped clean on ."

Also, the boards could have been reorganised cleanly, instead of that mess with 270.000 sections and duplicates all the way.

I just think that given the number of times folks rear up a complaint about archived threads or not-archived threads or forum lag or whatever other problemns are associated with the size and depth of the forums, a clean break is not a bad thing.
