| #1wotc_uptoOct 10, 2008 17:32:26 | I am excited to inform the Wizards Community that the Orcs have taken over Customer Service at Wizards of the Coast. Effective immediately, all customer service will be handled by the Orcs including email support, forum moderation, phone calls and live Magic Online support and moderation. The Online Response Crew consists of the Orcs who have taken over at Wizards Corporate Offices in Renton, Washington as well as the Orcs living in their Orc Caves at their homes around the country. We have decided to make these changes due to fact that Orcs can go much longer without the need to eat or sleep and this will in turn allow us to provide better service to our customers. The Orcs, who of course don't drive cars but all ride dire wolves to work, will be less affected by rising gas prices and fewer cars on the road is also good for the environment. The selection process started with Orc's, Trolls, Halflings, Drow and Goblins. The Goblins were the early leaders and presented some very good ideas but we were not able to get insurance coverage as the Goblins were blowing up too many office supplies; there was also the fire in the bathroom that created some hardships with our facilities team. Overall the Orc's had the best end to end presentation. When I presented the idea to our executives, it was approved but I was cautioned that the Orcs might be viewed as brutal, savage, warmongers. I assured him them our customers would never think poorly of Customer Service and they will only see them as a proud race with a strong sense of honor. I will admit our initial orientation was a little rough. On the first day of training we ran through some role-playing scenarios and Orc_Gutgob was up first. His initial response to what he should say to a customer who has a tech related question with Magic Online was "I'll rip his arm off and beat him over the head with it." This was not quite up to the standard our customers were accustomed to. However, after undergoing a rigorous 8 week CS training plan, we have ironed out most of the wrinkles. So with all this in mind, here's to The Adepts, The Wizos, The CSR's and everyone else. Can you join me in welcoming The Orcs? PS – It is still all of the same people – they just have new names. Kevin Boris Sr. Customer Service Manager Wizards of the Coast |

| #3JohnLynchOct 10, 2008 18:19:39 | As long as you don't let any Half-ORCS into customer service I think we'll be alright. Half-Orcs have an ugly background ;) |
| #4batshidoOct 10, 2008 19:53:30 | I, for one, welcome our new smelly, unkempt overlords. |
| #5lord_karsusOct 10, 2008 20:34:09 | -With all of the potshots that people take at CS, and the general dislike of them, why does this not sound like a well planned out thought? |
| #6RUMPLESTIXOct 10, 2008 21:02:16 | ORC!ORC!ORC!ORC! It is good to see that my orc brothers have usurped, er, moved into their rightful positions of authority. |
| #7babooniclesOct 10, 2008 21:04:20 | -With all of the potshots that people take at CS, and the general dislike of them, why does this not sound like a well planned out thought? I like companies with a sense of humor ![]() I've never had to deal with CS but I must admit, I do enjoy the name change :D |
| #8lord_karsusOct 10, 2008 21:29:41 | I like companies with a sense of humor -Eh, I'm just saying. -I can picture people saying things akin to, "Ah, that's why the policies here are so stupid, and nothing gets done, and so on and so on and so on. Moderation is run by a bunch of stupid Orcs!", which isn't very fair to the WizOs. Yeah, that's right, WizOs. They'll always be WizOs. |
| #9rhialtoOct 10, 2008 21:33:16 | Didn't OD&D orcs use to keep trolls as pets/allies? I assume these are not the same orcs? |
| #10vaalingrade_ashland_02Oct 10, 2008 21:37:03 | You do not feel mercy. You do not feel fear. YOU WILL TASTE TROLL FLESH! |
| #11dirtyfrankOct 10, 2008 22:30:09 | ORC!ORC!ORC!ORC! I thought that you were the Tarrasque, so how can you be an orc? Any how, I'm glad to see that orcs are finally getting somewhere in the world. |
| #12Alter_BoyOct 10, 2008 23:07:13 | So, do this mean that Grummsh's portfolio now includes customer service? |
| #13crimson_lancerOct 10, 2008 23:56:23 | So, do this mean that Grummsh's portfolio now includes customer service? I am so not surprised. :P |
| #14knights_discipleOct 11, 2008 0:25:49 | You do not feel mercy. This. Please. |
| #15rauricOct 11, 2008 7:01:08 | It is funny. Goblins would have been better though IMO. |

| #17LineovOct 11, 2008 12:15:14 | Orc Racial Power Indefinite Delay Immediate Interrupt Personal Trigger: An attack or power from an enemy were to hit you Effect: The enemy must either lose the attack (hang up the phone) or roll a natural 20. If the creature doesn't succeed on the roll, the rest of his turn is lost. He may attempt another roll to hit with this same attack at the start of his next turn. This is the only action he may perform on his turn until he "hangs up". not serious, jk around. |
| #18four_stragglersOct 11, 2008 12:43:56 | I'll laugh my ass off if some troll tries to dispute a ban/removal of post and get's a reply similar to "YOU WEAK KRUSK STRONG KRUSK RIGHT." |
| #19urielsblindingfireOct 11, 2008 13:46:14 | Of all the issues and other important things going on involving WOTC, this strikes me as a complete waste of time and resources. Wow real earth shaking announcement guys, tell me more.......as a paying customer who spends a ridiculous amount of money on your products, i would ask that you stop spending time and money on ridiculous things like changing the screen names of forum admins...seeing as how there is very little oversight of said administrators perhaps you should pay closer attention to their conduct and less to their screen names. And this seems to continue the ridiculous naming conventions of 4th edition, some of which are just the fruitiest i have ever seen. |

The point is that CustServ is now the WizOs, so when you need help with anything, or are reporting anything, or need a question answered about the Rules, the WizOs (AKA the ORCs) are now the ones who can help you, and they can post any answers right here on the Boards. This removes quite a few annoying go-betweens, and makes the whole situation work out better. |
| #21emwasickOct 11, 2008 14:04:22 | I didn't get the impression that this was a major announcement or a costly change. But it certainly makes sense to announce the change and avoid any possible confusion. I'm not seeing the harm here. And if you're interested in what's going on with D&D, there are plenty of resources for that. A release calendar for the free web content can now be found on the main page. There are several recent news posts regarding upcoming changes to the online component of 4e. The free playtest for the barbarian is up. A new set of forums has been created for errata suggestions. We've had a recent re-org, which was heavily discussed, in order to streamline the forum experience. Plenty of other stuff happens here. |
| #22urielsblindingfireOct 11, 2008 14:22:17 | My apologies i missed the forest for the trees..... well then that is good news, as i didn't realise there was a consolodation of forum power! I stand by the fruity naming conventions statement though.... |

This removes quite a few annoying go-betweens, and makes the whole situation work out better. -This is the way it always was. This isn't a change. WizOs were part of CS, they handled CoC violations, via the 'Report Post' feature and the long-winded, separate 'Contact Us' feature, concerning CoC violations, and other issues. With the more recent exception of not really participating in posting on the board in non CoC-violation/Moving Threads way, of course. But, in the OP, I didn't see anything that hinted that. |
| #25crimson_lancerOct 11, 2008 17:20:18 | Yes, but WizOs never answered Rules Questions or anything. If the ORCs have completely taken over CustServ, then I would assume they would be doing that, as well. Any clarifications here? ![]() |
| #26trappedsliderOct 11, 2008 22:25:07 | I guess once its posted in the D&D area its posted everywhere that matters time to go cross post this in the SW area and down in the D20 modern area.... |
| #27zammmOct 12, 2008 2:38:03 | Yes, but WizOs never answered Rules Questions or anything. If the ORCs have completely taken over CustServ, then I would assume they would be doing that, as well. Any clarifications here? The WizOs' responsibilities aren't changing. It's just a name change. ORCs will be answering rules questions, but those will be "the Orcs who have taken over at Wizards Corporate Offices in Renton, Washington", ie the same CS team that used to do it, only now they're called ORCs. |
| #28crimson_lancerOct 12, 2008 7:28:01 | Ahh, compartment absorption, cool. ![]() |
| #29lord_karsusOct 12, 2008 10:55:23 | -Yeah, see, that's what I figured. |
| #30kalakaOct 12, 2008 17:37:14 | As long as they have their papers, and aren't just a bunch of "undocumented monsters", stealing honest jobs from hard-working Americans ... I'm OK with it. |
| #31thecasualoblivionOct 12, 2008 17:46:47 | Hey Folks, Nobody has mentioned this yet specifically, but check the poster name. No more WizOs anymore. I guess we truly are in the thrall of ORCS now. |
| #32calronmoonflowerOct 12, 2008 19:10:54 | Nobody has mentioned this yet specifically, but check the poster name. No more WizOs anymore. I guess we truly are in the thrall of ORCS now. Huh... except the original poster. Check the title that is stuck under the name. It should say WizO. [edit] That one doesn't, but some do. |
| #33thecasualoblivionOct 12, 2008 19:15:08 | Huh... except the original poster. The original poster isn't a WizO. He is a WotC. |
| #34HaldrikOct 12, 2008 20:06:05 | What to these abbreviations stand for? Wiz ... O.? O.R.C.? LOL! When I first saw the thread title, I thought everyone at CustServ got fired, and all rules clarifications are now going to be published by O.R.C. ... the Online Rules Compendium. Hmmm. Come to think of it. Itd be handy if the Compendium publishes all of CustServs rules clarifications. |
| #35calronmoonflowerOct 12, 2008 21:40:07 | The original poster isn't a WizO. He is a WotC. Pardon me for the confusion. I was speaking of the quoted ORC and the original poster, but did not make it clear. Some ORCs do have WizO in the title under their name. It seems however that some do not. |
| #36lord_karsusOct 12, 2008 22:08:30 | -Some WizOs used to have 'WizO' as their CT. WizO_Sinister, I believe, for example. He's now ORC_Sinister, but it still says 'WizO' in his CT slot. |
| #37bigmacOct 19, 2008 7:08:34 | I like companies with a sense of humor Me too. Lets not forget that D&D is a game that is designed to be fun. It isn't a religion or anything. It is supposed to be a pointless waste of time that lets you get away from the stress of the real world. So I say bring on the ORCS! Would it be possible for us to have a SCRO instead of an ORC for the Spelljammer forum? :P ;) :D I've never had to deal with CS but I must admit, I do enjoy the name change :D I can see some people being confused by not seeing any "moderators", but then again the name "WizO" isn't very clear either. I suppose that this sort of thing could be addressed in the FAQ. |
| #38the_simple_seeker_iiOct 19, 2008 11:11:01 | This is the worse case of losing someone's mind, I have ever seen. But alas, it is in the right place, to happen. ![]() I am excited to inform the Wizards Community that the Orcs have taken over Customer Service at Wizards of the Coast. | #39axetankOct 19, 2008 13:03:43 | For some reason, this new announcement worries me. |
| #40ORC_ChaosOct 19, 2008 21:33:09 | What to these abbreviations stand for? WizO stood for Wizards Online (host) when they were the people who greeted you when you came into the chatrooms. Before WizO, they were called TSRO for TSR Online (host). ORC stands for Online Response Crew. Grrrr We are however still the same people. Just a little greener and scalier. Also, please remember, you can always check out the Knowledge Base at http://wizards.custhelp.com |
| #41crimson_lancerOct 19, 2008 21:38:15 | And it's not easy being green. ![]() |
| #42dirtyfrankOct 20, 2008 0:54:47 | ......a little greener and scalier. Wait? When did Orcs acquire scales? When did Orcs become reptiles because this is news to me? Next we'll find out that no work will be done during the winter, that is unless of course WotC has invested in a heating system. |
| #43ORC_ChaosOct 20, 2008 1:21:23 | Wait? When did Orcs acquire scales? When did Orcs become reptiles because this is news to me? I believe we're the missing link breed of ORC. Our caves are climate controlled. |
| #44axetankOct 20, 2008 2:13:30 | And it's not easy being green. I should know. It's constant persecution I tell you. |

| #46ArtifactOct 20, 2008 3:39:01 | Thought I was getting cranky when I saw the first ORC and then another ;). Is it April 1st already? Nope, I'm not crazy . . . everybody else is. |
| #47KentinalOct 21, 2008 0:18:33 | Well, at least PR got some attention by a rename, I though do wonder what GOBLIN or Troll stood for as other possible names (If that was seriously considered). Online Response Team in general has indicated, read the data base. Not much of a reply and sometimes posted the same thing I did days or weeks ago when quoting something. In fairness I only seen a few ORCs post so do not know them all. |
| #48dirtyfrankOct 22, 2008 10:04:30 | Our caves are climate controlled. They have you Orcs working in caves! One would think that, in todays day and age, even Orcs would have fair working conditions. ![]() At least the caves are climate controlled. |

In all my years as a CSR ...... to be able to answer a caller in such a way ... ahh .. to dream ... its beautiful! You stupid! You Wrong! ... does you have more question? ME NOT CARE YOU WRONG! ... me thank you for calling, goodbye. .... sigh. |
