| #1Mr_MiscellanyFeb 22, 2009 1:03:07 | Over on the What is the point of the feats/powers/abilities in Faiths & Pantheons? a good conversation has been moving along. During that conversation some of us have shared our own gaming/DMing experiences in using the gods of the Realms as protagonists in our games as these experiences relate to the OP's topic. Unfortunately by post #21 someone comes in and threadcraps, by likening all those who choose to run games where the deities can be killed as follows: If your players want to kill gods... and they actually can... you need to stop running games for 6-year-olds. I ignore the threadcrap because it’s an obvious bait, but someone else doesn't. So I hit the report button because the thread is being take off topic, then I watch the forum for ORC action. I'm pleasantly surprised with ORC_Bethana shows up quite quickly. However, nothing is done in terms of editing out the threadcrap. Assuming the ORC came in on my report (and not someone else's) it's entirely possible she could have sent a polite warn and left it at that. Awhile later, the same threadcrapper returns and does it again at post #24. So I hit the report button again, politely explain that I reported the thread once already and that things are only getting worse, and sit back. Just as before, ORC_Bethana responds very fast. But....nothing is done to edit out the new or the old threadcrap. Sure Bethana might or might not have come in on my report, but I think it’s unlikely she came in for something else because the FR General Forum is pretty quiet. Could she have sent a second warn? Possibly. But why only that? This all leaves me disappointed in the forum moderation. I’m being made to feel uncomfortable on the forums because I feel like I can’t share my experiences with my fellow gamers without someone coming along and using that as an excuse to not only criticize me personally, but also my players. My players are my closest friends and I’ll be damned if I let some jerk disparage them publicly, even if it’s done indirectly. The point is this: ORCs, if a problem keeps going and you don’t stop to edit the bad stuff out, the problem will persist. Expecting the rest of us to keep turning the other cheek just doesn’t work. Thus, I broke the cardinal rule and responded to the troll/threadcrapper as follows:
