May 03, 2010 12:19:04 The Other Published Worlds recently lost their links. For example the description under birhtright says "Visit , the official fansite offering...". It used to have "birthright.net" after "Visit" and link to that site. Can these be put back?

While we are at it, can WotC please choose a new "Official Ravenloft Fansite"? Fraternity of Shadows seems to be the favored site of the fans, but a community election could be a good way for WotC to reaffirm its relationship with its official sites.

And if Greyhawk is not going to be the core setting any more, perhaps Canonfire! could be considered for the official Greyhawk website. Again, this could be confirmed with a community election.

How about it?

May 06, 2010 17:14:06 I would like to add my two steel into this discussion as well. I am hoping that this is nothing more than a coding error. Massive search-and-replaces can sometimes lead to bad errors.

The various fan sites have done an outstanding job in keeping interest in the settings alive, even when no official products for those settings are out. Certainly, interest in the new 4e Dark Sun wouldn't be so high if it wasn't for the efforts of Athas.org.

Anyway, I contacted a moderator and am hoping to hear a response.

From prior experience, I can say with fair certainty that WotC has not had a policy on the official fansites since the Jim Butler days. They recently released a policy regarding fansites, but that was a separate agreement than the ones for the official fansites.

If you don't mind me asking, why were the links removed to begin with? Was that a coding error, or was this a conscious decision? I'm just trying to understand why this happened.

The official fansites have done much to support the brands of Wizards of the Coast, and we would like to continue to do so. It would be great if WotC could restore those links, so that fans can continue to enjoy their favorite settings and support WotC when they re-release any old ones, such as with Dark Sun.

Certainly, and I wholly understand your position.

WotC already has a fansite policy out, which you can find here:

www.wizards.com/fankit/fantoolkitdnd.htm...

You click accept, then you get a zip file with images you can use on your site.

Now, the official sites have a written agreement which predates this by 8 years.

The title lists it as a fan site kit policy, but the policy itself lists as fansite policy.

Title: "Fan Site Kit Policy"

"Please note that this Fan Site Policy does not allow you to publish, distribute or sell your own free-to-use games, modules or applications for any of Wizards' brands including, but not limited to, Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering."
