I have been away from RPG’s since the early 80’s (well around ’98 I broke out my old books and played a bit with my kids, but I was living in the 80’s so to speak.)

Two weeks ago, my son says that he and a few friends are getting together with a new DM, would I like to join them. SURE!!! But I will need the 4e books. So I bought them and quickly found these forums.

Wow.
Just WOW.
If you read these forums for just one day, you learn as much as 7 sessions with your buddies. You guys (and gals) are some of the best “out house” lawyers that I have ever heard. Its great!

As a total noob, first time poster:
1) Thanks for all of the great information and discussion.
2) I LOVED “Advanced Dungeons and Dragons”, but I must say, that 4e does not disappoint. I was a LITTLE bit bummed that my wizard isn’t going to a God that can rend the very fabric of the universe, but on the other hand the 4e rules are fun to play too, I just have be more creative. ;)
3) Just to get this off my chest... To all of you kiddies out there, please at least TRY to sort out the differences between “too/to” and “there/their” and “where/were” etc. :D

I think that you will find that, extremely vocal minority aside, most of the people on these baords are more than willing to lend any assistence and share any information that you would need, no matter the version of D&D that you are interested in playing.

This is not Dungeons and Grammar.

Although that does sound intriguing...

"That monster has a dangling participle!!! Get him now! He's vulnerable."

"Aww crud, a natural 1. Incomplete sentence."

"You're about to become past tense, buddy."

"Wait, we're fighting a Thesaurus? I thought it was a dinosaur!"

Come to my table. Just bring a d20 and your favorite gerund.

Can I play Conan the Grammarian?

I mean... may I play Conan the Grammarian?

I may be off on my grammar, but isn't the first one correct?

I may be off on my grammar, but isn't the first one correct?

The former was asking if I had the capacity to play, something that Aberzonorax doesn't know.

The latter was asking if I had permission to play.

Of course you may. Now, let's see if you CAN!

Our first adventure: "Into the Hive of the Spelling Bee".

No, I want to go looking for the Dyslexicon Aminalia for my druid.

After tracking the dreaded necromancer Double Negative across the Redundant Desert , a hot and dry land, for what seems like ages, you spy a talking cockatrice that never tells the truth. Do you ask it to lie or lay?

Double Negative has stolen the the Dyslexicon Aminalia and seems to be heading to the Hive of the Spelling Bee, perhaps to use the unique species to fuse an unholy hybrid of two words into one single monster: "a" and "lot" forced into being as the beast "alot"!

Is this adventure a first-person singular? I thought I would have a subject complement!

Apologies, but was that rhetorical?

I thought that, in this case, "you" was understood.

You appear to have your subject complement (or complements) in the ally played by Goblin Pride. It is not yet clear if his name refers to a pride of goblins or a proud goblin.

Perhaps therein lies the danger of his character.

Oop! "Lies"...I've said too much! Might as well have dropped the DM screen.
