Jul 08, 2008 1:22:10 My PHB, which I have had for less than a week, and have not mistreated by any measure, is about to start shedding pages. The binding is, as it turns out, utterly and completely terrible.

To whom should I address this concern?

Those physical books being of incredibly poor quality, both in the binding and the paper/ink quality.

Jul 10, 2008 9:50:54 Yea the physical quality of the books suck, I've had the same problems: shedding pages, and the pages stick together from the crappy ink. It's a bummer considering its expensive even for a hardcover.

Jul 13, 2008 13:44:59 Have there been different lots made or something? Because I got my books almost immediately after they came out, and my husband and I have read through them multiple times and they're all still in fine condition.

Jul 14, 2008 1:46:32 Mine are holding up alright. I think they look great and will probably hold up for a long while... Only annoyance is the price.

Jul 14, 2008 2:15:51 Heat and humidity could affect the glue and ink (tho' they shouldn't normally if it's of good quality). I have 2 wee smudges in my PHB's equipment section; that's all, thankfully; first and hopefully last time I had this issue.

Jul 14, 2008 10:17:52 I'm in Colorado, and humidity is something we don't have. That said, it's been a mixed batch with our books. They all seem to have relatively easy-to-smudge ink, but only about half of the books we've handled have had the binding issue. I'm blindly speculating there was a hiccup during binding, as "newer" copies seem to be OK by and large.

On a side note, $35's not too terribly bad for a big hardcover today (I'd still kill for a 40-50 dollar all-in-one format, but oh well :P ).

Jul 14, 2008 14:02:15 I purchased the box set (with the three core books) only to find that my DMG's cover is completely wrinkled. How the set made it out of Quality Control I have no idea; unfortunately the resale value of the books is diminished greatly due to the defect. The pages appear fine, for now.

Sadly... I don't think any of my 4th Ed books will get much table-time. I'm in the process of cataloging my 3rd Ed books, determining which are missing, and snatching them up the rest as quickly as possible. In a way I feel like Jackie-O collecting the scattered remnants of my beloved game off the trunk of my convertible. I'm still in shock and just recently realized the impact of the poor book quality on recouping the $130 bucks I spent.
