| #1epicroryOct 07, 2009 13:05:49 | I'm completely no to D And D. It came yesterday and I understand most of the rules exept for Part of the monster statistics. What does 5+ vs. AC; mean? I know AC is Armor Class. Thanks for your help |

This shouldn't be in coumminity business. It should be moved to DDI general. The answer is that is the attack bonus of the attack. You roll 1d20 and add the +# and it has to meet or beat the targets AC number. |
| #3epicroryOct 08, 2009 11:05:39 | Thanks. One more thing. The goblin blackblades's attack is +5 vs. AC; 1d6 + 2. So is the goblins attack 1d20 +5 vs. AC or is it 1D6 +2?
Thanks |
| #4asmodeusloreOct 08, 2009 12:25:05 | The attack is 1d20+5. If the attack hits, then the damage dealt is 1d6+2. |
| #5epicroryOct 08, 2009 12:32:08 | So... Goblin Blackblade rolls 1D20 and adds 5. If its higher then the dwarfs AC of 16, the goblin then rolls 1D6 +2, and thats how much damage the dwarf takes. Is that corrrect? |
| #6asmodeusloreOct 08, 2009 12:33:17 | Yep! You've got it. Welcome to Dungeons and Dragons, brother. |
| #7epicroryOct 08, 2009 12:34:28 | Thanks so much!!! One more thing... How does it work for PC's? How do they damage enimies? |
| #8asmodeusloreOct 08, 2009 12:44:02 | Each PC has a set of powers, similar to the blackblade's attacks. The power's description should indicate what sort of modififiers they need to apply when attack, what defense the attack has to beat, and how much damage to apply on a successful hit. For example, the Wizard has a power called Magic Missile. The Attack description for the Magic Missile instructs the wizard to make an Intelligence based attack, so the player rolls 1d20, adds the roll to his INT modifier, half his level, and any extra bonuses, such as if he's using a magic wand. If the result is higher than the targets Reflex defense, then the attack hits. The Magice Missile description also tells us that on a successful hit, the damage is 2d4+INT. So if you have a level 1 Wizard, with an 18 INT score, he would be rolling 1d20+4 vs. Ref for attack and 2d4+4 for damage. |
