It doesn't obstruct anything and nothing forces you to use it. All the normal functionality is still there, so what possible reason is there to remove it?
The Quick Reply forces a user to use its format when editing a post, and is a nuissance to bypass - so as to get advanced editing features - and to avoid getting the sig automatically added to the post.
There isnt any reason to have Quick Reply. Just get rid of it.
Edit: if forum managers are concerned about advanced editing features overwhelming newbies, just put the advanced features in a separate sidebox underneath the emoticons.
The same goes for the quick edit. If you want to go advanced there's a button for it in plain view. Hardly a 'nuissance'.
There's also a box for showing you sig or not in the post, just below the quick reply box in plain view.
And it's hardly unusable. It's pretty much all I use nowadays, I only ever use the advanced mode for complex formatting.
If it's design offends you so much, just click the arrow in the top right of the Quick Reply box and it'll collapse.

Put features that arent "quick and easy" in a separate side box. Voila! Theres no reason "Advanced features" need to be on a separate page. Get the best of both worlds.

Consolidate all replies into one format.
Then the delete the redundantly separate "Advanced" edit buttons page. Thus consolidate.
Respondants will reply directly, using the form at the bottom of the thread, without being forced to press a button in an above post.
Also, please include the "Spoiler Block" [ sblock ][ /sblock ] along with the advanced editing features.
The only issue I have with Quick Reply (as others have mentioned above) is that you have to click to use it. I would like to see a listing someplace of all the "nonstandard" vbCode extensions (sblock counts, even though it's pretty standard, since it's not shown in the tools).

I can see enough people like Quick Reply, and I dont want to lessen other peoples enjoyment. Personally, Trolls comment about bandwidth efficiency and Insatiums comment about the problematics of programming, convince me to keep Quick Reply.
Nevertheless, I still hate the redundancy, and I still hate faffing thru the Quick Reply format to get to the "Advanced" buttons while editing a post. And for the same reasons others gave above, the Quick Reply should become the default method for posting a New Reply.
So, you can keep "Quick Reply", but it should include "Advanced" editing buttons in a sidebox. And since it should be the default, it doesnt need to be called "Quick Reply", it can just be called "New Reply".
Since the New/Quick Reply would include advanced editing buttons too, theres no need to use the separate advanced edit page at all. Then everything is good for bandwidth.
In other words, posters should be able to place a comment at the bottom of the thread without having to click to activate it. Several posters have voiced support for this.

Well, no. It's simply that people only explore so much of the available functions on a forum, and sometime it takes one user to enlighten another.
I got a slow computor, so it helps greatly saving time.

THIS! That aspect makes no sense. I love quick reply on other forums, but I don't think I've ever used it here. The quick reply isn't redundant, the clicking on something before-hand is.

It's not a redundant feature. It is exactly what it says it is: a very quick way to reply to a thread. A normal reply or a quoted reply have to go through another page.
This feature does have a point, and if someone doesn't like it they could just reply the other way.
Plain typing, simple formatting, url creation, image dispalay and to make things quotes. Quick to use with minimal excess page loading.
If you need to do advanced stuff (and you yourself aren't advanced enough to type in the codes yourself) with tabs and huge complex lists within lists and high formatting and all that jazz you'd want to do for class creation and things like that... Quick Reply is not for you, skip it and go to the full deal.
The only change I'd make to Quick Reply is to get rid of the need to click that little button. Message posted to you from Quick Reply.
