I'd like to propose a minute change in forum namegiving to get rid of confusion and some rather silly arguments that are often used to disguise "The One's Living Underneath A Bride At Work" or other things.
Simply add "4E" to the boards whose intent is discussion of 4E.
Make it "D&D 4E Fundamentals" and "D&D 4E General Discussion"

segregation is a major cause of hatred and bigotry. we all need to just get along.
But at times, to make a comparaison.... Weddings end up in failures, or are dysfunctional. Separations may be needed... if not at the end, divorces.
My parents bickered and argued, and ended fighting. Now, 18 years or so after the divorce, they have a sort of curious familiarity, semi-friendship.
It's maybe needed at times, if the parties can't get along.
FYI: The forums in the D&D Community section are not limited to 4th edition. In the DM Advice forum, of which I am Forum Lead, DMs of any edition are welcome.

I have seen a few of those threads and in each I posted a notice telling everyone that the forum is for DMs of all editions. Sadly, I sometimes don't see the thread before the OP sees it. I try to send PMs and in one case found a thread in Previous Editions complaining about the 4e-only sentiment (and I posted a clarification there as well).
Most of the people who post that the board is for 4th edition only are people I've never seen before and don't know.

I'm not sure what more I can do except try to catch and correct misstatements as quickly as I can. If you know of a statement I've missed, please let me know.

The DM Advice forum is for all editions of D&D.
Then doesn't matter what the thread states people would clearly see the sticky, and as long as the archiver doesn't eat it it will be right there on the "front page" and I think every page in the forum so people have less excuse to miss it?
It comes to a point where as this thread suggest that something must be done to the code itself if people refuse to listen to the mods or mod helpers.
Maybe the giant descriptions for the forums or the category descriptions need to be altered at the admin level to state which forums are intended for all editions and which as intended for 4th as is implied in this thread?
The only thing I would suggest is that D&D Fundamentals be renamed "D&D Fourth Edition Fundamentals". Everything else should stay the same. The Fundamentals section, AFAIK is the only section limited to 4th edition.

We've already got three stickies. We're not supposed to have any more than that. I don't want more stickies as it will make the forum seem crowded.
It hasn't been a huge problem. I've only had to warn people twice in the eight weeks since Fourth Edition was released.

I've only ever had to warn individual people once. So I'm not sure to what you refer. Are there people in the DM Advice forum repeatedly telling posters that DM Advice is 4th edition only. Could you send me the posts so I can address it?

Because, in the case of Player or DM questions, being a Player or DM transcends edition. The question may involve some rule issue, but it's usually about more than that. If the request is only about how X works in 3.x, then it should be moved to the appropriate OOP forum, of course.
I like the idea of sticking a 4e in front of the new General and Fundamentals boards. With two General boards (and one buried at the bottom) it makes sense that people would miss the Previous Editions one. Slappin' a 4e in front of the forum name would fix that problem. And fast.
