Promotion can also be used to transfer ownership of the group to a moderator (which, to my knowledge, then turns the current group owner into a moderator). Owners can also demote moderators to members and kick members out of the group altogether. Moderators can be given special privileges in the wiki and forums of a group. For instance, in the Expert Dungeon Master Judges group I created, every qualified judge of the Expert Dungeon Master Competition is a member, but I promote those who agree to judge a particular competition to Moderator status so they and only they can participate in the wiki page devoted to planning and running that competition. That way judges who did not volunteer can't peek in on the planning and scoring. When the competition ends, I delete that wiki page and demote the moderators to members. Then I start a new competition, promote the new volunteers and start all over again. That's just one of many ways you can use group moderators. |
