Reamlslore Board Revamp and Threads to Die

I've been bitching quite a bit about the state of the boards since my return and, more recently, simply about how we--the regular posters--are not helping matters by continually bantering on posts--whether they should have died or not. Tonight alone, I have talked to a few others that agree with my assessment--so I don't feel like I am by myself when I make one.

The fact is, 4e and the change in board functionality may have made this place go to **** real quick, but those of us that sit here continually posting nonsense are dooming it to complete extinction. Old posters that may return see nothing but stupidity and potential new posters see nothing beneficial for them (not to mention exclusion from "the club"), all because all we do is sit here acting like a bunch of idiots in a frat house (albeit, with the occasional female dropping by to be stupid as well).

The reason the majority of us stick around this place is because of the sense of community we once felt--one that is completely gone at this point. And the only way it is even going to remotely going to come back is if get our **** together and start acting like adults. As 18D states, the "inmates" are now running the show. And, as sfdragon agrees, it's time for us to get our **** together and stop.

For those of you that know me, then you know Bejebuz is going to be extremely pissed about me shutting my yap. But if I can do it, then you can do it, too. We have to get the **** around here under control.

The first step is to shut down the El's Undies thread. I am putting in my first request to the ORCS to shut it down tonight. That thing outlived it's usefelness well over a year ago.

Any other threads that you are aware of that exist simply through nonsense, please post them here. Anyone that agrees should request that the ORCS lock them.

Look, I am not dictating anything--but I am heavily requesting your help with this.  These boards are absolutely worthless to anyone--including us--if we don't reel **** in and get focused.

Yeah but the Orc and Fey threads are for the Fey and Orcs of the Realms, so they should stay in the Realms forums, and I think the Orc thread has merit, theres some good stuff in there, and once im done converting Thayan Orcs over to 4e Im gonna need someplace to post them, now the Fey thread yeah it can go, nothin goes on in there but a bunch of prancin around! But I agree we ALL need to get a little more serious, but then again i find the back and forth banter in threads like Els undies to be most amusing. I say we keep the threads and the ones like Els undies or the Fey ones can be used for goofin off in, and other threads like the History of the Realms one should stay serious and on topic, if you dont have anything to say thats on topic then dont say it in that thread, now i know im one who was posting a lot of rubbish all over the place, but I for one will be a little more serious minded, especially in those threads that warrant it. If we all work together we can truly bring about a new golden age in the Realms Forums.

Let's make this clear, any thread closed will still be available to read about "good stuff" but will no longer be allowed to have posts made. Are you opposed to that?

maybe thats what the ORC thread started out as, but its now nothing more than a 3 year, 80 paged dancing orc dancing deal. most of its bumps, were just that.
it goes if  ORC_Sinister whom I pm'd deams it so.
anyway, a 4e Realms conversion should go into the Running the Realms Sub-forum.

I've made the request for El's Undies and the Gnomes Love threads to be locked down, but it won't happen if I am the only one.

As for the ORC and FEY threads, I would need the exact titles of the threads. I can't report them if I don't know them.

And, of course, I have to look at them myself. While I trust your assessment, I'm not going to simply request something be locked down unless I agree with it.

the fey thread below
community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

the ORC thread was created three years ago or so, from a fan of the ORCish races of faerun.
3 years or so later and 80 pages later, some of which was the  former sdancing smiley and the orc smiley at the time.

the Fey thread was created by me, and in hindsight its spam

I am going to ask that this thread be closed...Tongue out

This place has been dead for about 6 months. The only way it will come back to life is if and when Wizbro starts producing some more halfway decent Realms Articles THAT HAVE SOME USEABLE REALMSLORE. I dont post usually in other forums and I am bored here. So I post a bunch of off-topic non-sense, just like most everybody else.Embarassed

Yes Creyzib4z12 priceless :dancin orc orc orc orc :dancin thread has run its course.Undecided

Thats one of the reasons I started the Trivia Challenge(shamless plug). So at least one thread will be some what useful.Cool

I agree, things should be a little more serious around here. I'm so sick of SMITEing people! But on the other hand, people should be alowed to have their fun, but people should keep to the topic of the thread, if you want to joke around, fine, but keep it at least somewhat relevant to the topic, or start a new thread for that discussion. I think that is the main problem here, off topic discussions.

The only reason I didn't ressurrect that one was, its last post was an Orc saying it is not locked. Yet due to the migration it has been unSEALed...

Old posters that may return see nothing but stupidity . . .

Having to squint to see past the endless banter threads certainly doesn't motivate me to come here.

I just report masking wherever I see it.  ORCs always jump on that.

If you're trying to speak or write intelligently and you want to convince someone that your ideas have merit, cussing does nothing to help you.

All it really does is inform your readers that you're not interested in being taken seriously.

Yeah, all the crap and nonsense was one of the big reasons why I left.* The others were the rubbish boards and the fact that there wasn't all that much worth talking about here anymore.

* Well, I stuck my nose back in looking for something, half-hoping the boards had improved, but nothing seems to have changed.

We should probably take this disscussion to the Community Business Forums(CB Forums). Also if this disscussion was going on the the CB Forum Webster would see it and offer suggestions. The CB Forum is the right place for a thread like this anyway.

I dont think that this Forum should have an on going flame war between Mr. M, and JD in it. Or at least please take it to PM's.

So can we at least try and get along...

No. I posted this here, because it is completely relevant to Realmslore. It is up to us to be consistent with lore and not stupidity for now.

As for me and Mr. Miss, I asked him to stay off my posts and I would do the same with his. He doesn't want to--it's more important for him to show face than to truly be a man about such things.

Regardless of what's what. My post here is about providing people that visit THIS BOARD something worth to come back to. If you notice, I have completely stayed away from the other FR threads, as I see this one being THE thread that truly matters.

I have asked Webster to lock The Orc, Fey, Gnome, and El's underwear threads. Give it a day or two.

I have also asked that Webster make a decision about the proper place for this thread. In this Forum or Community Business. Whatever decision He makes I will respect.

Thank you and have a nice day.Smile

Edit: I have also asked Webster to lock The Quenthal thread.

I guess one could say I am cleaning up my part of the mess...

You would rather try to flame and bait me...

No, I explained quite clearly and rationally why curse-filled calls for change are a non-starter.

I'd really rather not have to read past your constant cussing in order to get at what it is you're trying to say.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Assuming the various long-lived threads are closed and/or made to go away....what do you all suggest they be replaced with?

That is, I don't think it's enough just to kill those threads.

One of the options that you are given as a reason for reporting a post when you hit the report button is spam.
I've found that when spam gets bad, if I use report it and convey that most of the posts past the post that I report is spam, it gets removed.

No, it won't. It was a complete undermine of my intent.

I didn't really give a **** when that "Pamela" chick had my Karsus post moved to the FR General board--and, in fact, never bothered to go searching for it--because I knew that people, as a whole, saw Karsus as a universal figure to be shot at and disputed at every turn.

...

But this...?

...

As I stated, I only hang out in Realmslore--and was only beginning to look forward again to the General board anytime soon. Had I meant for this to be a "Community Business" post, I would have ****ing done it. But, no--I posted it where I thought some people that knew me would hear the point, listen, and help me do something about it.

Instead, I get you--someone I completely expected to get my back in the matter--have this post transfered to "Community Business"? Who the **** am I trying to reach ever really going to come here and read this?

This board is the one to go to for all community issues.

When you go to the supermarket to get some milk. do you go to the dog food aisle? No, you go to the milk aisle. That's where it is put because that's where it belongs.

It is specific to the Realms boards so it would make sesne for it to be there, but I guess it does fall under community business as well.

Ah well dont let it bug you Dook, you got the message across, and we're cleaning up our act, and id say its working! we already got some new posters in there, and some of the old regulars are coming back and contributing more.

I can say with 99% assurance LK would have moved the thread also.

We all know this thread would have devolved into a flamefest, threadcrap war between certain members.

Guess what, they can do it here.

Its now in Websters backyard so to speak.

What we should be trying to do with this revamp is make sure that not only is there less spam to put people off, but also a resurgence of topics that actively draw people in. I was shocked to read (in the board reorg thread) just how low traffic actually is, especially considering how active it was when I first joined, just days after the 4E announcement.
