| #1Robin_HoodlumMar 23, 2012 6:22:21 | The second post in this thread community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... contains a vulgar swear word. I reported that content 4 times within the last 12 hours and the offensive material is still up. I would be willing to bet had that post been made by a poster who was an OTTer, that poster would have been banned by now. So, is the excuse that the report button is broke? Or are some people simply allowed to break the rules? |
| #2wrecanMar 23, 2012 7:12:51 | Is that (fifth word from the end of the next to last sentence in the post referenced by the OP) considered a swear word in these forums? I don't think I've ever seen it modded. Or was there a different word I didn't catch? edited so as to avoid offense |
| #3Robin_HoodlumMar 23, 2012 7:18:20 | Is "goddamn" considered a swear word in these forums? I don't think I've ever seen it modded. Or was there a different word I didn't catch? Yes it is a swear word. And it is vulgar and base. What makes you think it isn't? And I can guarantee you that had an OTTer made that same post, the OTTer would be 12 hours into a 3-day ban. I mean really, I have seen much less offensive things get modded and bans handed out. If Wizards are going to make rules and enforce them, then it should be done consistently and without favoritism and bias. For instance, I could report you for using that word in your post, but I very seriously doubt anything would happen to you. |
| #4wrecanMar 23, 2012 7:56:43 | I definitely think it would be good to have clarity on this issue. I didn't consider that to be vulgar, but you do. So I agree it would be good for someone in CM or CS to explain whether that word is considered vulgar. I don't mean to offend you, so I will delete that word from my post. |

Have you seen this thread: What warn or ban did you get that you didn't understand? It's very informative on the subject of mod timing, variations in moderation behavior based on a user's past history on the forums, etc... I'm not sure what being an OTTer has to do with a post made by a non-OTTer in a forum besides the Off Topic Forum, though if we are somehow supposed to infer OTTers are being singled out for unfair treatment, I think the What Warn or Ban Thread pretty much encapsulates why that's not true. That thread is actually pretty useful. Glad the mods stickied it. |

I believe it is true, and past experience and the actions of Wizards (no matter what they say) has reinforced my belief that it is true. |
| #7Robin_HoodlumMar 23, 2012 14:43:52 | And the offending material is still up... after a good 12 hours and having been reported 4 times. I guess we can safely assume that the obviously and historically known swear word, "Goddamn", is not a CoC violation. ![]() |
| #8crazy_monkeyMar 23, 2012 14:44:15 | Howdy folks, As far as I know, there are no technical issues with the report button at the moment. We can't discuss specific conduct actions on the forums due to privacy concerns. If you have a question about the code of conduct or a specific moderation issue, please contact customer service. Closing the thread now. Thanks. |
