I may just be being thick, but I can't see how to check my subscriptions to old threads. There used to be a "My Account" button that brought you to a list of new posts in your subscribed threads. Is there still something like that somewhere?

The list of subscribed threads is now, inexplicably, under forum preferences (which cannot be accessed from your account pages). The list does not, however, inform you of new posts in the thread. It appears that e-mail is now the only option for receiving new post notifications.

Thanks, Pukunui. I see now that all of my old subscriptions are gone! That's too bad. I'm also not happy about the email. I prefer to keep my web forums from cluttering up my email account.

I am not happy with this decision either as it makes tracking posts over several forums nigh impossible.

Yeah . . I'm very frustrated with it. That was the majority of my forum time, checking my subscribed threads for new posts. . . not to mention the 500 gad forsaken subscriptions that I've lost. Hundreds of threads I'll probably never find again.

Only tracked through e-mail!!?? Yell I have enough e-mail as it is, I don't need anymore clogging it up. Especially if it's per post = e-mail sent. That would get rediculous fast!

I just did a little checking on the Subscriptions feature, and it's not that bad right now.  (Perhaps there's been some tweaks since the forums first came back up.)

After subscribing to a thread or two (or 500...whatever), click Preferences at the top of this (or most any) forum page to get to the preference editor.  At the top of that page is a link to go to a list of your subscribed threads.  Clicking that goes to a page where it looks like all you can do is unsubscribe to threads.  But clicking on the name of the thread (not the check box) will take you to the first page of the thread.  That's not necessarily ideal, but it does go to the threads in question.

By itself, that would be OK. In fact, it would be alot like the old system. But, I really don't want to get an email everytime someone writes something to a thread that I subscribe to. Unfortunately, the only recourse seems to be what it says in the email:

"If you would prefer not to receive notification e-mails please unsubscribe from this thread. Thank you."

Yep, the loss of my old thread subscriptions is a bit of a deal-breaker for me.

Wizards, get back to me when you restore them.

you can turn off email notifications in your profile options, so you can remain subscribed and not get emails, unfortunatly, that doesn't help if you want to get some email notifications (for PM's and group stuff) but not others (subscriptions). Still doesn't adress the question of which subscribed threads have new posts. Hopefully, better subscription functionality will be implemented, I know it's on my list of things they need to fix.

I can confirm that if you do decide to continue receiving e-mails for subscribed threads, you won't get spammed much, depending on numbers.

My example case: I received one e-mail on 9/4 stating there was a new post in one of my subscribed threads.  I did not return to the site until today, 2 days later.  Going to the subscribed thread in question, I find in the pink box that there are in fact 5 new posts.  No further e-mails had been sent re: said thread. So it appears that the notification system is at least "smart" enough to only send one notice per subscription per gap in log-ins.

I will admit that I may not be the best test case, since I'm only subscribed to 2 lightly active threads.  Someone subscribed to more threads and more active threads will get more mailings than I.

I am perplexed, Svnbob, as to how the algorithm that decides when to send you an email actually works. For example, I was unaware of  Kratch's most recent post for a few days, because I never received a notice for it, even though I had already read everything before. I just happened to check in this morning to read Kratch's post.

But, when you made a post I promptly received an email letting me know.

I'm not sure what to expect.

Oh, that's easy.  A faltering, pathetic excuse for a subscription system.
