The Mysterious Case of the Vanishing Post

Well, it's back.  After a time during which I could post without copying the text beforehand, I am once again forced to do so in order to prevent loss of the entire post.  Here's what's goin' down (that I've noticed specifically):

When replying to a post in which I quote a previous poster, once I hit 'Submit', my post usually appears.  When I have trouble, though, my post will appear without any of the text I added.  The quotations will still be there but none of my text - and none of any editing to the quote (removing any quotes that I don't need - such as my text that the person I'm quoting quoted - in order to decrease the quote chain) I may have done, either.

Even more rarely, once I click 'Submit', I get nothing.  Well, the screen behaves as though it's posting my post but instead of seeing it, I have an empty text box with a blinking cursor in it.  It erases everything and doesn't post anything at all - so it's an entirely different situation.

When I'm posting and not quoting another poster, I seem to have no issues at all.  EDIT: This just in: it's killing these posts, too.  And it's becoming more and more common.

When I'm creating a thread, I seem to have no issues at all.

I never use 'Quick Reply'.

Hopefully the information I've supplied will be helpful in tracking down and eliminating this most annoying problem.  Thanks.

EDIT: The trouble reappeared yesterday and seems to have gotten worse today.

If you have not done so already, I suggest that you Customer Service.

As for a possible cause, with the recent forum problems, I think that the may have updated the forums and are having to work out some of the old bugs al over again.

It's probably the rich text editor.  Its HTML conversion is less than stellar, and it interacts oddly with BBcode (such as "quote" and "spoiler" specifically).  It wants to group text by DIV and SPAN and seems to ignore the placement of BBcode in the process, resulting in text that's "outside" the display space or stuck "inside" a tag.

If you're in any way HTML savvy, you can click the button to view the HTML and remove(or move) any misplaced /DIV, /SPAN, or /P tags.

Obviously this doesn't alleviate the need for fix.  This is merely a workaround.

He's saying that the forum might be dealing with stuff it doesn't understand what to do with, and you can try hitting the HTML button and edit it out.

Just because you don't get a reply doesn't mean they aren't working on it, though you haven't really provided much that would be useful to troubleshoot the problem (ie - browser version, OS, what kind of functions you are doing when the error happens).

From what I can tell, both you and Zombie_babies were having problems mostly when quoting (and modifying the quoted text) and when altering the color of your text.

I would suggest, as a work around, try to not modify the quoted text in the former case and not modify the color of your text. If this satisfies not killing your posts while they do work on the problem, then I think that's a reasonable short-term solution.

For the color changing - are you using the "Select Text Color" button at the top of the edit window, or are you using the BBCode tag or the html tag? If you are using the button, I might suggest learning the BBCode or HTML tag that would be appropriate to your text color.
