| #2dragomApr 10, 2008 19:44:00 | Here it is folks, in all its glory: 5 is tons in my oppinion. And thank god we can leave this sesspit of a forum behind. |
| #3thecasualoblivionApr 10, 2008 19:46:51 | 5 is tons in my oppinion. And thank god we can leave this sesspit of a forum behind. Maybe not completely behind. I'm curious if they are going to dump this whole mess in the 4E general discussion forum, or if it is just going to disappear in a puff of smoke. |
| #4dragomApr 10, 2008 19:55:31 | It dosen't belong in General. Archived and sold to a College to be disected as a peculear sociological event maybe. If left intact it will just continue to fester. Wait, am I condoning Peace through Segregation? In the abscence of brarbed wire and armed guards, Yes I think I am. |
| #5vaalingrade_ashland_02Apr 10, 2008 20:01:23 | Like I said on the other thread, Powers should proably be its own board as discussions on such would quickly crowd out the Classes stuff. As for this mess, burn it down and format the drive it's stored on. Then burn the drive. |
| #6thecasualoblivionApr 10, 2008 20:06:36 | I'm not so sure about the powers thing. Powers are classes in 4E. |
| #7burgundy_lotusApr 10, 2008 20:11:39 | Any idea when the new boards will come online? |
| #8eRaz0rApr 10, 2008 20:14:37 | Where's Character Optimization? .. b'uh... b'uh BUT WHERE"S CHAR OPS ? ?? NOOOOOO! Oh wait - I guess they'll just have to pollute 3E Player Characters or Classes and Powers instead ;) |
| #9thecasualoblivionApr 10, 2008 20:21:06 | Where's Character Optimization? Char Op is in the general RPG boards, and most likely will stay there. It isn't on the 3E boards currently, its just a link. That being said, I don't expect that board to be as big of a deal this time around. |
| #10nomApr 10, 2008 21:27:31 | Like I said on the other thread, Powers should proably be its own board as discussions on such would quickly crowd out the Classes stuff. IMO, it makes more sense to have "Classes & Races" (ie the character creation basics), "Powers" (massive catch-all), and "Monsters" (all the DM- rather than PC-centric character stuff). |
| #11vaalingrade_ashland_02Apr 10, 2008 22:12:36 | My reasoning is that classes aren't *just* their powers, int he same way 3e wizards aren't *just* thier spells. But like Magic, Powers will be a much bigger topic of discussion than any part of a class and would quickly subsume all class talk with 'Rogue Power 7 needs to be fixed!' 'Wizard Power 4: How does it work, really?' and so on, and so forth. Just looking at the current Magic boards and multiplying by 8 classes instead of 4 (primary casters) tells you exactly how this will end. |
| #12thecasualoblivionApr 10, 2008 22:19:01 | Still, the 3.5E Wizard class was almost completely defined by its spells, and almost not at all by the few class features it has. Talking about the Wizard was talking about the spell list. What a class does in 4E is 80-90% defined by its list of powers. Talking about a class separately from its powers for the most part doesn't seem to exist. Also, if you look at the list of boards, there about half of the number of boards that currently exist on the 3.5E D&D boards. Theres going to be some condensing. |
| #13vaalingrade_ashland_02Apr 10, 2008 22:39:38 | Still, I think Powers in and of itself will more or less crush Class discussion like a bittly little bug like what Classes did to PrCs back before it got subforumed. |
| #14decivreApr 11, 2008 0:34:46 | Actually, I wonder if I could get a copy, or they could archive it somewhere. I plan to go through the whole C&C thread and find the longest-winded well-written... yet still prejudicial... post on those forums and put it alongside the forum link I already have. That way I can start a list of the various complaints that players have had of each edition. You know, so I have them for the 5th Edition Concerns and Criticisms board. |
| #15dragomApr 11, 2008 1:24:24 | Can't you just harvest one now and save it in txt? Wait, what is the single greatest anti-4e post? Mmm... Dang I guess I'm making a new thread. |
| #16vetridianApr 11, 2008 1:51:15 | I think this forum will be reborn in General Discussion • D&D Core o Classes & Powers o Races & Monsters o Treasure & Equipment o Deities & the Planes o Campaigns & Adventures o Rules Q&A (official rules questions) o General Discussion woo-hoo! can never be off-topic here! :invasion: It looks like we will need to buy yet another book if we want to use magic items. hopefully someone will put something up at nerf.com so I can download a list ![]() checkit out.. GAUNTLETS OF OGRE POWER [LEVEL 5] These gauntlets are good for a fighter, ranger, or paladin. Body Slot: Hands Property: Gain a +1 item bonus to Athletics checks and Strength ability checks (but not Strength attacks). Power (Daily): Free action. Activate when you hit with a melee attack. Add a +5 power bonus to the damage roll. ![]() .....*yawn*.... |
| #17vetridianApr 11, 2008 2:01:53 | Char Op is in the general RPG boards, and most likely will stay there. It isn't on the 3E boards currently, its just a link. Sounds like it is still up in the air for CO.. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1013931 They GOTTA keep it. I do not know what I will do on the internet if that forum splinters or goes away.. |
| #18WebsterApr 11, 2008 5:18:04 | Trolling is against the Code of Conduct, and people will get warned and banned. |
| #19yellatyumaApr 11, 2008 6:05:01 | It's predicable, but there will be another version after fourth, which might more or less screw up your metabolisms. |
| #20wickederrorApr 11, 2008 6:34:22 | Char Op is in the general RPG boards, and most likely will stay there. It isn't on the 3E boards currently, its just a link. Famous last words |
| #21decivreApr 11, 2008 7:34:56 | Char Op is in the general RPG boards, and most likely will stay there. It isn't on the 3E boards currently, its just a link. Oh ye of little faith in Char-Oppers, give them a chance. If there is a game system to use, and a character to be made, it can be char-opped. It's like the Rule 34 of RPGs. |
| #22thecasualoblivionApr 11, 2008 7:37:02 | Oh ye of little faith in Char-Oppers, give them a chance. If there is a game system to use, and a character to be made, it can be char-opped. It's like the Rule 34 of RPGs. But will the CharOp boards continue to be a tool for the general RPG public who goes on the internet? That's more what I mean. I'm not talking activity, I'm talking influence. |
| #23Lord_PhobetorApr 11, 2008 7:56:40 | Someone should archive these boards, and go on an archeological dig for the previous Edition Wars. That way when 5th Ed (inevitably) is released, we can point out just how old and tired the anti arguments are. |
| #24vaalingrade_ashland_02Apr 11, 2008 10:04:32 | Trolling is against the Code of Conduct, and people will get warned and banned. You'd think that, wouldn't you? |
| #25decivreApr 12, 2008 15:32:43 | But will the CharOp boards continue to be a tool for the general RPG public who goes on the internet? That's more what I mean. I'm not talking activity, I'm talking influence. Sure they will. Newcomers to D&D will need advice on creating a character, and the Char-Op boards will be the place to go. Conversely, a player who enjoys one style of play may decide due to 4E that he wants to try something new... the Char-Oppers can help ensure that his character is the best it can be. |

Conversely, a player who enjoys one style of play may decide due to 4E that he wants to try something new... the Char-Oppers can help ensure that his character is the best it can be. Keep this moving here: Will the CharOp boards be a dividing line between optimization haves and have-nots like they are now? In the current game, optimization is important enough that people who are optimizing are essentially playing a different game than those who don't. In a game with people who are optimizing, it is necessary to either consult the CharOp boards or be able to optimize well enough not to need them(a tall order) in order to contribute at the level of other players. In other words, will a CharOp regular and a new player doing it on his own be able to comfortably play in the same game? Will someone who discovers the CharOp boards and incorporates it into his/her character creation either dominate a game or start an arms race? |

Will someone who discovers the CharOp boards and incorporates it into his/her character creation either dominate a game or start an arms race? I don't think we'll know that answer until the game is out. My hunch? There will always be a difference, and the more books they release the wider the gap will become. |
