Is there's a glitch or is this their idea of an April Fools joke?
Because the Witchalock is cute and kind of funny. This is not. It's just annoying.

. . . Are these purple for you? Because they're definitely an insipid green for me. I find the green oddly comforting-- kind of like the command-line email programs we used to use back in the 90s. It's like I'm typing away on a green-monitor 20-lb special back in the computer lab again.

Sometimes, if there are a lot of people, the change can take a while to propagate throughout the servers back to your browser. I don't mind it that much actually.. However, I do think that this colour scheme should have been used on St. Patrick's Day - Though the true colour for that day is black (Guinness).

This is the worst April fool's joke I've ever seen. The whole idea about April fool's is that people are not supposed to be aware of it. I could understand it if the current cover for the MM2 (the one with the spiky, tentacled, orange baboons) was a joke, but at least I have the choice not to look at it. This is just uncomfortable.

And to make it all worse, I not only have Aspeger's syndrome, I'm also synaesthetic, so for me, the colour doesn't just look like puke, it tastes that way too (with a disturbing kind of stale citrus overtone, and an after-taste of liver ).

WotC, you gave us a chock the moment we opened the boards, but enough is enough. This is just rude.

So no raping of childhood memories, bleeding eyeballs (optometrists should really get to work on this web approach for creating new customers), or comparisons of twice/thrice processed baby-poop?

Just wanted to say, WoTC, that I happen to like the new theme and thought switching it around for your annual April Fools Day event was funny.

To me, "nerd rage" defines an aspect of nerd culture. That being: "nerds" tend to be a cranky lot, who believe their alleged above average intelligence allows them the ability to complain and criticize just about anything they find remotely irritating. Nerds have an odd innate disorder that forces them to overreact to just about everything. I seriously think I see more complaining from fellow nerds than I do from vegan straight-edge kids.

Yeah, the color is bad, but the larger annoyance is trying to figure out did I already read this thread, or post in that one. God I hate 4/1.

==Off topic==
Did you hear that there is going to be a new mod. Yeah, someone by the name of Orc_Moderator_of_Posts. Evidently it is a regular poster whose had some problems. They figure that he can mod his own posts so if they get reported he has to automatically delete them. So if you see a thread locked by this guy, just report the last post and he'll have to delete the post and unlock the thread.

Changing the color schemes is one thing, overriding the user's ability to change it is rather less funny. The Gleemax default hurts my eyes after a short period using it. That's literal, not figurative. I took painkillers before bed last night.

Then again, why am I not surprised that WotC would pick such an unpleasant idea for April Fools?

It would have been humorous if this was the GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! when we logged on but that we could change it afterwords. It would have been a "we gotcha" moment and then everyone could have gone on with their merry ways. Instead gleemax and WotC decided to be a bunch of 5 year old immature asses about everything. It was no longer funny when this first came up about 11pm (PCT) and one of the FGs/gamemasters decided to start being an ass right away. It is not a joke if the humar is one sided. It is being an ass. For it to be humor both sides need to be able to get a chuckle out of it. If this is WotC's idea of comedy then WotC should think about not doing anything at all because WotC obviously doesn't know a damn thing about comedy.

Mr T Language Filter?

Awesome!

Yeah one year the filter was altered so that every 'you' came out 'foo', 'hate' was changed to 'pity', and I thin "I" was changed to "I pity the foo"

Just like today people were freaking out and saying its not funny.

Some people have no sense of humor. I look forward to seeing what WotC will pull every year... from the classic original box set themed website the one year, to the blog posts chronicling a gelatinous cube's rampage through the WotC offices, and who can forget when "Hasbro announced WotC would be making a my little pony RPG"

Yep it went through midnight Central time as near as I can tell (I'm in Oklahoma.) I have to say that I kinda like the g_reen (it's one of my two fave colors, speaking of which, any hope for a purple color scheme? :P )

And to all the people who are saying the stuff like "This is the worst joke ever..." etc: Did we all forget the My Little Pony avatars so quickly? That de-evolved into a couple days of flaming WotC and lots of unneeded vitriol for what, in the end, were soe fairly cute pictures. I'd say that the g_reen (which is much easier on my eyes than the normal colors and in no way "neon" as some have said) and the apparent taking over of Mudbunny etc is actually pretty good by WotC standards.

Plus, they released a web-enhancement for Dungeon Delve with 4e Flumph stats so it's all good. :D ;)

What's worse is that if someone comes to the boards today as a result of a Google search, they see all this mutated Borgified text and (blue+yellow) color, not to mention the replacement of words with that which shall not be named here(see the thread title). If this was the only opportunity they had to search the site (not likely, but possible), or if they'd never been here before, there's a good chance they'd never come back.

Let's say, for example, someone was searching for information on a particular class feature in time for a game TONIGHT. Coming back tomorrow's no good, it'll be too late then. In changing the site as it has, WOTC is thus doing its readers (especially newcomers) a disservice.

With all the other PR problems WOTC has had lately (late release of DDI content, still no Paypal accessibility, etc, the company needs to cultivate, welcome, and embrace new customers/readers/players, not drive them away with silly HTML tricks like this.

Anyway, that's my 2cp

I still don't get this, what's wrong with Forest G_reen and Olive Drab? (Oh, and a light pastel g_reen) I find it quite soothing compared to the usual tan etc, and may change my default to this tomorrow.

I think one problem is that many people will have monitors with all their screen adjustments set to different points than others. It will be set to how they prefer it to be. If we could switch, we could find something to fit our settings. My computer is hooked up to 32" flat screen and I have set it for watching both TV and the normal setup here. Now, among other things, there is an enormous amount of black not to mention dark colors which act like a mirror and reflect practically all the light that shines upon my screen. So, I have a 32" glare spot (like driving west with a dirty windshield while the sun is low in the sky...) staring at me. It blows chunks.

Since the last time I logged in everything went to a puke GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! some links I can't see anymore. Is there a way to kill the color?

Ice pics to the eyes should do the trick. If that doesnt work I recommend using some type of battery acid.

True I didn't think about the glare issues that could be caused (I get almost no glare on my screen, ever.)

In a weird twist, even some archived versions of threads, arrived at through a Google search, succumb to the textual rebranding of certain words(in this case, T-H-E-M-E minus the hyphens) today. The thread I'm talking about hasn't seen a new post since 04-14-07, and even the HTML source code shows the change!

To see for yourself, Google "Warlock Tips Please" (and include the quotes) -- then click on the link that directs to the WOTC archive pages, not the arenajunkies pages. Or just use the following linky:

http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-816181.html

If you can't see it at first, just do a text find for Gleemax.

Even stranger? While they managed to hit archived pages as above, the "Advanced Search" page on this site retains the color settings in place yesterday (at least for me). So they execute the changes on sites most people would never see, but not on integral parts of this forum site itself. Weird.

Changing live pages on the forums site? Cute for a while, then irritating. Changing ARCHIVED pages? That's not just an April Fool's joke. That's overzealous and unnecessary (though probably also unforeseen)

You got it in one. They most likely didn't anticipate that adjusting the filter would hit even the archived threads. Or if they did, after the Mr T speak and Pirate speak events, they had no way to get only the live threads without the archived ones also.

So, if they've done this before (I wasn't around for the Mr T or Pirate speak events you mentioned), and IF they therefore knew that adjusting the filter would do exactly what it's done, yet they still went ahead...

wow.

On a side note, wasn't there an unwritten rule about April Fool's jkes that you could only pull them before noon? That's the way anybody I know treats them. If so, this color schem should have reverted hours ago. they're just prolonging the agony.

It's not that easy being GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

It's not easy being GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
Or stars in the sky

But GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!'s the color of Spring
And GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! can be cool and friendly-like
And GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! can be big like an ocean, or important
Like a mountain, or tall like a tree

When GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why
Wonder, I am GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! and it'll do fine, it's beautiful
And I think it's what I want to be.

As midnight rolls in here on the East Coast, yes, it was an April Fool's Day concept formulated by we VCL's, and fulfilled with a little help from the WotC Forum Admin staff.

I'm fairly certain they had to set all this stuff by hand - and will likely have to remove it all by hand as well.

So, while it may not roll-over at exactly midnight PDT, it should go away during the morning on Thursday.

Here's hoping that those of you who could stomach it long enough to stick around had at least a little fun with it.

[EDIT] - Looks like the other forums are starting to get their colors back. We're toward the bottom of the list, but it shouldn't be long now.

This return of Gleemax thing for an April Fool's gag is a feeble attempt on WotC's part. It's annoying without being funny.

Blizzard's got April Fools down to an art. They unveiled the Archivist, complete with a webpage with all the trappings of their actual in-game classes.

http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/characters/archivist.xml

I can't help but think someone at Blizzards is an FR fan. Seems like this guy was snatched right out of Candlekeep, cause how many other game settings give even a half-notable mention of librarians.

I agree that it's cool to see what they pull, but this year I think many people had a legitimate complaint. Messing with the color scheme on an area that people spend a lot of time reading, and not allowing people to change said color scheme, is actively repellent to people who are prone to headaches/migraines. Heck, I average less than a headache per month (and the ones I get are almost invariably fatigue related), and I was starting to have problems at one point yesterday.

Okay, enough's enough. It's no longer April 1 anywhere on the planet (the International Date Line just ticked over to April 2, I believe), yet the text substitution remains in place. Great that the color change is finished, but still...

Seriously, a little codemonkey trick that probably took no more than 10 minutes to enable is still there more than 7 hours after it should have been disabled? (This April Fool's thing started just before 11:30 Eastern Time March 31, and it's now just after 7am Eastern on April 2). just... wow.

And can anyone say for sure that if/when the text filter substitution is disabled, all existing posts won't remain permanently disfigured? Because if everything is affected (including archived posts, see my note in a previous post above), then the value of these forums as a research tool for those genuinely interested in learning more about the game and its mechanics & flavor will be seriously compromised. Didja think about that, codemonkeys? Well, didja? Smart money says no.

Does anybody on the planet still doubt that WOTC's IT folks suck at this whole computer thing?

Despite the protestations of a very vocal minority it wasn't that bad. There's just always a group of posters who can't handle WotC messin with the boards, without fail. Happened during the T speak, the pirate speak, and the MLP avatars. I remember some unusually extreme reactions to the My Little Pony incident, actually.

All of the posts are still being filtered into verbal feces.

It makes posters look like total retards to people who don't know what happened. I mean, it even changed archived threads, and now that it's past April 1, they should've changed the text back. But apparently, since they actually altered the HTML code, unless they've backed up EVERY SINGLE THREAD on another server, it's permanently changed.

And I still say that causing people literal pain (in my case for several hours, completely ****ing up my day) is NOT funny. It's rather cruel, in fact.

[edit] Also, the word-filter is still in place, and the F-word is apparently also FUBAR'd.

I believe the color GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! is still banned. I do believe that I can use the color GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! for coding in order to color now so that is cool but it sucks huge balls that I can't say Green.

EDIT: It looks like I can use the G color in the OTT but not here. I have to use DG or something like that.

Does anybody know when the filters will be fixed? Are they just going to be forgotten? Will the coding expire or whatever after a set period of time?

And now someone's overwriting our posts with that stupid

crap.

I mean, what the hell?

What's next, randomly banning people or draining our bank accounts and claiming it was a joke?

Stupidest. Joke. Ever.

Yes, even dumber than GWBush.

If you have no sense of humor it would be best to stay off the internet on April 1st. Come back on the 2nd and continue your online life.

If when you arrived and the changes had caused you pain. Did you continue to come back to the forums? Did you continue to try and navigate the forums?

Why would you continue to do something that you have stated caused you pain. Would you stab yourself in the leg with an ice pic and say dang that hurts? Then continue to stab yourself to see if it still hurt?

Once I realized what it was when I could not change the theme back I just laughed on the inside and moved on.

You should see GLEEMAX 2.0
That thing is worse.
One a similiar note, the orginal gleemax board couldn't be changed from that skin.

No way. Absolutely no way. Gleemax 2.0 is actually a pretty good style. Clean lines, complementary colours, and graphics designed by someone who was actually thinking straight. Single column, page-centered, with good visual differentiation for new threads; the only real flaws with Gleemax 2.0 are that the game banners don't mesh well with it. Beyond that it's just a sensitivity to working with dark text on a light background, but given that many people find it just as hard to work light/dark that's a wash, and hostile predisposition in the user towards the whole Gleemax project.

The rest of the problems are with the forums themselves, i.e. some really bad organization.

...Okay, yeah. I read the thread after I'd already posted one of my own elsewhere. Apparently an ORC (ORCs are evil, must slay them all) shuffled my thread into this one. And now I sound stupid for posting something that's already been said over...and over...and over...

So, if anyone thinks I have ADD or something, that's why.

Gleemax has taken over.

Gleemax is all powerful.

Gleemax is your friend.

Gleemax will not try to stab you.

Gleemax is your friend.

Gleemax shall be obeyed.

Gleemax did not stab me. Indeed, he merely gave my lung a present. A knife. The pointy end. Hard...
