| #1darqueknightJun 16, 2008 12:30:07 | I have just noticed something that is potentially alarming. In many of the forums I am seeing threads that are less than glowing reviews of 4e and WotC in general seem to be getting consolidating into other threads. This causes me a great deal of concern. It seems that customer service at WotC is now determining where our complaints should be "filed". I realize that the General discussion board had several threads about 4E that were discussions about its potential shortcomings but not all of them should be shoehorned into the first impressions megathread. How long will this Restructuring be going on? How long will our threads and posts be arbitrarily be moved by WotC staff whereever THEY deem apropriate? Given the state of DDI and the failure to communicate to customers and the potential PR disaster I would hope that WotC would be a bit more sensitive to the implications of such actions. I could even understand if the threads were being moved wholesale to a more appropriate subforum but they are being dumped wholesale into other threads where it becomes impossible to follow the integrity of the discussion that had been going on in the thread prior to moving it. Epic fail one more time WotC. |
| #2BelorinJun 16, 2008 12:37:11 | Well, they are also cosolidating pro 4E threads, and it's not customer service doing it, it's the forums manager and his elves, the forum leads. Hail Mike! Keep up the good work, you'll tame this beast yet! Bel |
| #3etarnonJun 16, 2008 12:40:13 | Why are you surprised? The whole tone of an organization and it's practices is set by it's leadership. The alarming trend since killing off both Dungeon & Dragon is not gonna change, until leadership changes. Individual players, they could care less about. It's all about bottom line. People that threaten to leave? They don't care. Retaining the old grognards? they DON'T CARE. Less work for some forums moderator here, if the people that are anti-4e just up and go to Dragonsfoot. Truth. |
| #4darqueknightJun 16, 2008 12:49:29 | Point: Many pro 4E threads have been consolidated as well. I see that and concede that point. Question. How are the discussions that were being held in individual threads supposed to continue where there was actual intelligent debate going on? Can anyone find anything in the "first impressions Megathread"? And to move anything off of the Community Business board onto the the DDI General Board seems like it is an attempt to sweep it under the carpet so to speak. Especially when WotC still has yet to put any real information about its failure to launch promised applications on the DDI homepage and when the only real information is buried in the forums over a week after the launch. |
| #5the_ubbergeekJun 16, 2008 12:49:41 | Really? Look at how few REAL critics there is - much are just rants and flames. Random dudes - frequently suspiciously new, coming in, ragin'. When not trolling openly. ![]() Insults are not contructive criticism. At all. |
| #6caidJun 16, 2008 12:57:55 | As I stated in the other identical post, I personally have no objection to this and would instead encourage all the haters/lovers to not start a new thread for every thought in their heads but instead to try to contribute to existing discussions. This is - after all - a discussion board. |
| #7emwasickJun 16, 2008 13:01:24 | This isn't the only site that is trying to keep the "edition war" threads under control. ENWorld has put a moratorium on that sort of thing as well. If you have a particular game-related issue you want to discuss, I'm betting the mods will leave it be. But if you want to start "4e sux/rox" thread #5697, you can bet it will be merged. The "I love it!/I hate it!" threads were choking the General board. Everyone who bought the books felt a need to speak his mind in a new thread, even if there were 15 other threads with the same purpose on page 1. |

If a thread is intended to discuss DDI, it belongs in the DDI forums; if it is intended to discuss the rogue, it belongs in the Character Building: Strikers forum; and if a thread discusses the community in some aspect (such as the database errors viewing threads this morning), it belongs here on the Community Business forum. |
| #9WebsterJun 16, 2008 22:07:37 | Glad so see acknowledgement that it's not just anti 4e threads, but pro 4e threads as well. I can understand how it might be difficult to follow a particular line of thought but: ~ Many of the points made (on both "sides" are circular and repeated very often. ~ Most of the time, when people are responding to something quote what they are responding to. Some are even point by point. ~ It's just as difficult to follow multiple, multiple similar threads. Especially when the same types of threads are bumping all the other threads down to page 2 or 3. As for how long? I'm not sure. Depends on how long people rush in to make a new post when there's a valid current one availale. It's not a permanent thing, though. The sooner people stop bickering and/or trolling and get back to actually discussing D&D, the better. ![]() |

You'd seriously keep doing this until 4.5 or 5e comes out? Well, I admire your dedication at least. |

It just might work. Sooner or later even the haters have to realize they're fighting a losing battle, those that don't, well the definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over and expecting different results. Unfortunately, I don't think you can really lose on the internet. Some people just troll and bicker as a hobby you know. EDIT: Check it! Posted a reply within 1 minute oh yeah! Mad skillz! |
| #13horatioatthebridgeJun 17, 2008 12:19:12 | The plethora of edition wars threads are being consolidated because they were interfering with other users' ability to make use of the forums. See the "Something Needs to be Done About DnD General Discussion" and "Why did they get rid of the Concerns and Criticism forum" on this forum, a few posts down (currently). Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins, and all that... |
| #14etarnonJun 17, 2008 13:27:46 | The ability to make use of the forums degraded with the post 4e reorganization. Let's just restate the obvious, right there. |
| #15the_ubbergeekJun 17, 2008 14:31:44 | The ability to make use of the forums degraded with the post 4e reorganization. It's not obvious; it's subjective and debatable. ALbeit the forum could be better organised. Your fact is an opinion. |
| #16vaalingrade_ashland_02Jun 17, 2008 18:26:49 | The ability to make use of the forums degraded with the post 4e reorganization. I agree with you statement, but not your reasons. The forum structure seems like it's built specifically to invite crossposting and making things hard to find. And moderation seems to be asleep at the switch. But what Webster is doing is pretty much the best way to deal with the edition war trash when the mods and CS seem to be resting on their laurels, doing nothing to help. |
| #17aberzanzoraxJun 17, 2008 21:13:04 | I gotta say two things: 1. I have been critical of WotC many, many times...and my threads have never been moved. Also, many of the other threads I have followed have also not been moved, and have been critical, if not outright damning of WotC. 2. There are REAL critics here...and they are drowned out by "Avengers" who often have the right perspective, but always assume they have the right perspective even when they don't. DarqueKnight, as far as I know, has a valid perspective. It is not 4e =WOW or 4e is the pitz or wizards of the co$t is all about making money. It appears that the perspective is one of: WotC should have been more vigilant in communicating with its customers about a major shortcoming in their product release. (While some may not care, others do.) So, I guess the point of my post is that WotC is not some conspiritorial monster that is goodspeaking us into positive commentary, but neither is it infallible...and that any and all criticisms should remain, so long as they are valid on a more or less reasonable leve. |
| #18greatfritoJun 17, 2008 22:56:06 | Um... Sort of related, but I'm wondering where the "will you use HP / Healing as written" thread went. I... I wasn't -aware- that it was against the CoC (even looking through it), so I assume it was moved, but... I can't find it. Anywhere. Anyone know? |
| #19vaalingrade_ashland_02Jun 17, 2008 23:29:30 | Polls are a no-no here. So it's gone. |
| #20greatfritoJun 17, 2008 23:53:31 | Polls are a no-no here. So it's gone. Ah, shows how well I can read (ie. - apparently fairly poorly). That said, I've never participated in / followed a ganked thread before. Is it standard practice for them to be "disappeared" with no notice to anyone? I'm honestly asking, not complaining. Curious, mostly. |
| #21vaalingrade_ashland_02Jun 18, 2008 0:10:20 | The new CS (Customer Service) based mods are a capricious and fickle race. Basically, you get a reason when they feel like it and if you get one, it's often cut and paste. |

You have to admit though - lots of threads are not really deserving the care of an elaborate message... When you see the Xeth 'WOTC killed D&D', you get tired too... ![]() |
| #24vaalingrade_ashland_02Jun 18, 2008 21:11:38 | There'd be less need for it if someone stickied a 'Hey! Threads of X type go here!'. |
