It's as easy as adding them to your ignore list. It's also easy to spot a puppet, so add them too. They will get bored, and they will leave. Simple. If people want these boards to return to normal, the trolls have to leave. And they're not going to unless people stop feeding them. |

It seem to me that the community often takes a "It's just a Troll, let's have some fun" attitude. For me however, trolling isn't fun 'n' games, rather trolling is a drain on the community. If we can't be rid of them completely then we should do our best to ignore them completely. Can't stress enough: I find the reaction of the community more disappointing than the actual trolling itself. If we respond, the trolls get exactly the kind of reaction they want, even if it's all in *good fun*. Trolling (and the response to it) is not fun, it's not a game, rather it's a serious problem that we have to face as a community. |

It's SO easy, and it makes reading and just being here so much more pleasant. I adopted a zero tolerance policy a week ago. Anyone who is obviously a troll, vehemently anti-anything (3E, 4E, GSL, DDI, 3PP, whatever), or repeatedly rude and condescending they're on my list of 40+. After weeks of reading the negativity and baiting, I finally got tired of it. It does mean that on a very few threads, almost 50% of the posts are hidden, but they're debate or now OT threads that sour me on the hobby anyway. Just turn them off, and ignore the temptation to view (let alone reply!) to their posts. They really will get bored and leave when no one pays attention anymore. |

| #5wrecanAug 12, 2008 17:01:29 | Moreover, the folks who would need to heed this advice generally don't frequent this forum. |
| #6juggyslashAug 12, 2008 17:09:13 | I've got another idea, why not ban someone for a week and after that they remain banned until they type up a 10,000 word essay on how they plan to not do stuff like this in the future. This prohibitively long essay will make it less likely that they will do that in the future. |
| #7samyueruAug 12, 2008 18:46:03 | Maybe this would do better in GD? Honestly, Vaal is right. Mods should be banning the people who troll, and not letting them post again, whether it's after a week, or through a sock puppet. |
| #8vaalingrade_ashland_02Aug 12, 2008 23:14:12 | Of course, then we have CS locking threads discussing problems and telling us to contact CS to complain about CS. "Hey you, can you help me fix you?" |
| #9icarusfallzAug 13, 2008 2:00:47 | This is a D&D forum. We should know how to deal with trolls. You burn them. (not literally, I don't condone violence...) |
| #10the_ubbergeekAug 13, 2008 2:08:55 | Wished we could do like the old revolutionaires.... ¡Ya basta! ¡No pasarán! |
| #11calronmoonflowerAug 13, 2008 3:19:48 | While I agree that you shouldn't feed the trolls, I'd also add that you should report any code of conduct violations as well. |
| #12samyueruAug 13, 2008 14:15:12 | While I agree that you shouldn't feed the trolls, I'd also add that you should report any code of conduct violations as well. I 100% agree with this. If someone violates the CoC, it's up to the community to see that this violation is reported, and the person responcible punished in some way (whether their post is edited or they're banned for being trolls or whatever). |
