has anyone figured out how to go directly to the forums without being redirected to the home? its really annoying.
just try the same link twice, should work then.
the problem seems to be this:
- it tries to go to the forum
- it realizes you have no valid cookie
- it sends you to the wotc account management, which has a valid cookie
- it validates you for the onesite page with its own cookie
- you get sent back to the forums page, but in the meantime it has forgotten where you came from.

yeah, i figured that much out, its just a pain in the keister is all. its pretty basic cookie management, ya know? its not as if there aren't 6 million pieces of forum software out there that manage the trick without problems...
the problem goes a lot deeper than that. while it is, basically, cookie management, it would have to be cross-site cookies. the wotc account system has nothing to do with the wotc billing system, or the wotc community system. they are all three on different machines, servers, even different technology.

Actually this could be remedied with a simple cgi-bin post setup (which hides what is sent) from one server to the next, then no cookies have to be exchanged.

sorry, but not working. this is only feasible if you a) want to increase server load (heck no, they can barely handle what they get now) and b) if you don't care about security. just because it's technically possible, doesn't mean it should be done.

The tiny increase to the server load would not be significant enough to worry about. The fact that you could encrypt the data server side and then send it as a string of text from server to server would solve any security problems.
I really see no reason to take anyones word for it either way.

what do you need proof for? (your sentence makes no direct sense to me.) as for the redirecting, this can even be seen in your browser status bar. it first goes over to accounts.wizards.com, then back to community.wizards.com.
btw: both servers are hosted in entirely different locations in the states, the accounts seems to be situated directly at WOTC (seattle), the community at onesite (oklahoma)

yeah, maybe they fixed it. since i've been here now already, can't check, but it seemed to me like i was here quicker tonight... well, bit tired so i might just have imagined it...
nope. wotc is greedy and for the rest... see my sig. i'll remove it once i believe the forums are in a usable state again, because they're the only thing that ever kept me here.

otoh, this might be due to our team being properly funded and directions a lot more precise than what wotc devs seem to get.
The redirect only happens randomly (in the sense that I'm not 100% sure what's causing it, I'm certain it's not actually a random factor)..
From the first day I was sometimes redirected and sometimes not. I was just redirected today and hence it's not fixed yet...
