| #1WotC_TrevorOct 03, 2013 10:29:18 | Hi everyone! Now that the new community site is live, the Wizards community team is preparing to reorganize and clean up the existing forums in order to make the new site as well organized and efficient as it can be. This will involve eliminating multiple subforums that no longer see significant activity.
We have a pretty good idea of what we'd like the final result to look like, but before any changes happen we want to make sure we get your feedback as a community. Please post in this thread to give us your thoughts. Keep in mind that the goal is to reduce the number of forums, repurposing and consolidating where possible. Once a final decision is reached on our end, the affected forums will get a warning announcement of the coming change (we'll give as much of a heads up as we can). In the case of subforums being deleted, this will give people a chance to copy any old thread content they want to hold onto.
Looking forward to everyone's feedback. As always, keep it respectful and constructive. |
| #2TheLyonsOct 03, 2013 11:49:39 | Are you going to consolodate some of the forums into the D&D Next General Discussion forum, or consolodate other forum topics together? Ever since a lot of things were added to the General forum long ago, there's enough content going in there that it's hard to keep up great topics that might have less traffic and it's easy to see a lot more less important but controversial topics that gain a ton of responses. I personally would hope to not see more stuff added to the General Discussion forum specifically, as it's cluttered enough as is IMO. |
| #3kill_the_wiz_firstOct 03, 2013 14:10:26 | I would like to see a "D&D 5e - Mechanics, Math, and Balance forum." That way I know which forum to not go to. |
| #4LupusRegalisOct 03, 2013 18:59:04 | I would like to return to the old format, which while not great didn't give me a headache to use. And it was functional, while these new forums tend to be...erratic. |

| #6The_JesterOct 06, 2013 6:50:19 | Official news & announcements should be at the top followed by a "General Forum". Not a 4e forum or a D&D Next forum, but an ALL D&D forum. For any edition. While there *could* be forums for each ediition, but that really segregates the audience and reduces potential posts. I might seldom visit a "2nd Edition" forum but if I see a 2e post that attracts my attention I might opt to weigh in.
From there I'd have the two "What's a ____ to do?" question forums. Maybe followed by a Products forum that covers both future releases and current reviews & questions. (--Edit-- a "House Rules & Custom Content" forum would be nice too) Below that are the specific world forums and maybe end with Community Buisness.
I don't think we need the playtesting forums anymore, at least not a Next general forum, but there could be a temporary "Feedback" forum somewhere less at general discussion and more on specific feedback on the packages.

| #8Plaguescarred1Oct 05, 2013 10:44:05 | I'd like to propose the following changes;
Move Official News & Announcements in Community Business and use it to announce all Daily D&D News instead of just D&D Next ones.
Move the D&D Gamer Classifieds to a subforum of the Community Business.
Consolidate all 4E Errata forums into a single one.
Consolidate all D&D Previous Editions forums into a single one. |
| #9kill_the_wiz_firstOct 05, 2013 10:21:12 | If a major consolidation does happen where most forums and put into a single united super-theme allow some type of broad tagging system.
So, for instance if you have one forum and only one forum that encompasses all editions of D&D please provide some menu to tag it with edition and with some super-category (be it general, to mechanic, to roleplay) so we can filter out specific posts.
Do Elves have to go to the bathroom? [all editions] [general] I just got in a car accident and lost my character sheet. Do i have to reroll? [5e] [mechanics] A monk and a dwarf walk into a tavern. [4e] [roleplay] [goodluck] |
| #10kill_the_wiz_firstOct 06, 2013 19:47:06 | And speaking of orginization what's the deal with the wiki here? It's more like someone took alphabet magnets and threw them at the fridge then saved that as the content. |
| #11Be3Al2Oct 07, 2013 8:41:10 | I think that some forums relating to specific products should be left (i.e. 4e CharOp and similar mechanincs-focused forums). Perhaps label them "mechanics forum" as well to make sure that topics relating to mechanics are easy to find for those looking for them and easy to avoid for those not interested. Otherwise I think that I would need to see a suggestion to be able to evaluate the impact on the forums I care about.
More important to me than reorganizing the forums would be to make sure the "follow" option becomes useful. I want to use it to keep a short list of topics with new posts, I do not want it cluttered with every new post. That and the wikis are the parts that still need to be fixed to make the site useful again. |
| #12Hurin88Oct 08, 2013 8:43:42 | I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but the present forum redesign is absolutely terrible.
Many posters have noted it hurts their eyes. The thing that bugs me the most is that I can't fit more than a couple of posts on a single page at the same time. Other posters have noted that it looks less like a forum and more like a facebook page (and not in a good way).
A total rollback to the old system is my recommendation #1. I doubt that will happen, but I am hoping that in the future at least I will be able to return to a more forum-style UI. |
| #13GeneralGarrisonOct 09, 2013 7:32:42 | The new graphical layout has some problems. I suggest the following.
Just a few changes could make a huge difference. As it is, I get frustrated with the forum quickly and just leave. |
| #14RogerWilcoOct 14, 2013 8:43:52 | I agree with GeneralGarrison above. The new forums hurt my eyes.
As to consolidating the D&D forums: I don't like the separation along edition lines. I'd like something like:
Something like that. With subsections for Next/4E/Earlier Editions if the trafic is high enough. |
| #15Style75Oct 20, 2013 10:55:28 | I'll make one quick gripe about the new forums and then move on: I have poor eyesight and the extensive use of black and grey bars on white backgrounds literally gives me blinding headaches. The problem is so bad I figure I've cut reading of these forums by about 90%. I used to be a regular here and now it's just not worth it to me.
With regards to something constructive, I want to say I support The_Jester 's ideas. They seem like good advice and would make the forums a lot more useful. |
| #16QmarkOct 22, 2013 17:46:06 | I would like to see a "D&D 5e - Mechanics, Math, and Balance forum." That way I know which forum to go to first. |
| #17NirafelosOct 23, 2013 22:54:13 | I would like to see a giant sticky with a link to David Gibson's excellent Reflavoring Powers article from Dragon 394, with accompanying commentary from high tier developers (regardless of their current employment status) debunking the ridiculous argument that it's even sort of socially acceptable to pick terrible powers solely because of the crappy stock flavor text a copywriter being paid $8/hour slapped on the power writeup.
I'd also of course like to see more competitive, balanced options, and significantly fewer really bad options. The rift between RPers and OPers is entirely fabricated by your development team somehow thinking it's okay to have 95% of the content published so bad that no one should ever consider using it in any circumstances.
But most of that is outside the bounds of the forum. The update was sideways at very, very best, took weeks to function in any expectable manner, and still lacks basic functionality on mobile and tablet devices such as any way at all to return to the parent forum from inside of a thread.
In terms of reorganization, I'd lump all of 4e into "4e mechanics" and "4e general," same with Next, same with previous editions. And the settings subforums get so little use that I'm not sure how needed they are.
edition independent forums such as "players seeking players (which admittedly would work better as a database matching app than a thread system, though the destruction of groups and friend lists makes that harder to do anything with)," a PbP forum, a place for discussing/work shopping backstories, a place for sharing funny DM or Player antics, and I think you've got it all covered.
Agreed with plaguescarred on news and community business having a lot of overlap, though I realize many forums have an "Announcements" area where us filthy public can't post. |

| #19The_JesterOct 31, 2013 15:32:03 | With the playtest "over" the various playtesting forums should be shut down sooner rather than later to avoid people offering opinions on a game that's already "done" (or at least no longer taking heavy feedback). It's becoming less and less about D&D Next and more General D&D talk, and should be moved to that forum. |
| #20PoniesNSunshineNov 07, 2013 23:05:11 | what's really missing for D&D next is a "House Rules forum for people who are doing mods, creating new character classes, coming up with new character sheets etc. The general discussion forum keeps burying the actual useful stuff 3-4 pages down.
The playtest feedback could all be consolidated into one forum since all three forums together don't get the same traffic that general does. then it would become the errata forum as soon as something gets published
|
| #21DreamstryderNov 27, 2013 21:51:34 | Before Next became my most frequented forum, my favorites were the "world-building" and "What's a DM to do?" forums. I also liked the chat room, especially for its potential as an online DnD gaming space (a potential not as realized as I would have liked, however). Assigning a forum to "Mechanics, Math, and Balance" would likely be good for those that like it and those who'd like to avoid it, like me.
I'd like all editions to be mixed into the same forum because I believe, even if you don't play an edition, you might still prove some help to those who play it. You might even get ideas from it. The only place divisions would be handy are forums that deal with mechanics, and those can be tagged or divided by edition (maybe they'll be specific to multiple certain editions and use multiple edition tags). |
| #22joe92580Nov 29, 2013 22:44:21 | Return to old format. This new one is just all around bad. |
| #23trappedsliderDec 02, 2013 2:34:39 | Might as well get rid of the Off Topic Taveren sicne it's now jsut a dumping ground and it's community is gone. |
| #24AlHazredDec 03, 2013 12:47:04 | I'd like to see the forum for my favorite edition up near the top of the list, with several subforums. I'd like to see all the other editions lumped together in a single forum somewhere near the bottom, next to the trash bucket.
Okay, that was a joke. Seriously, any consolidation in well-trafficked forums will draw unhappiness, from a group already generally unhappy with the new forums. That said, and even though I visit them quite a bit, the forums for the older seasons of D&D Encounters could be consolidated with little loss. Maybe one forum where those posts could be archived -- some of the forums had authors contribute additional content, and if anyone runs the modules again it would be nice for them to be able to search and find it. I would keep just two Encounters forums -- the current season and the previous season. I don't think that would annoy anybody. That being said, if you guys could start the forum for the next season a week or two before the start of the season, that would be really helpful. |
| #25yusakuasanoDec 07, 2013 17:55:17 | Although this isn't has to do with the reorganization of the forums is something that i wanted forever. I would like the forums to be one click away from the main page and not more. |
| #26thespaceinvaderDec 16, 2013 2:54:37 |
|
| #27emperor1103Dec 17, 2013 5:50:25 | Came back after a couple of months (maybe even years?) to check if any group solutions are available... heck I am shocked... finding the community in such catastrophic state was far beyond all expectations... Without working wiki feature etc. not worth a second look, bye bye |
| #28kill_the_wiz_firstDec 19, 2013 0:17:07 | Actually I have a major feature I would like added to the forums. The ability to tag a user Insightful, Informative, Funny, etc. NOT the post, not the thread, but the user. The *function* would be attached to users' posts. |
| #29kill_the_wiz_firstDec 21, 2013 6:38:53 | Can "upcoming" be defined, please? |
| #30MarshallDec 28, 2013 9:49:39 |
|
| #31EmirikolJan 02, 2014 7:41:32 | Is there any way to have less "white" in the background? It gives me a migraine compared to dark background with light text. |
| #32sanguinolentumFeb 08, 2014 1:07:52 | Can one request that something be unhidden? There are several threads I want to view but they're all hidden. If it isn't possbile I'd appreciate being able to know why? The stuff's really old but if it comes up in search why not just allow us to view it? |
| #33DreamstryderFeb 14, 2014 8:23:56 | Fewer clicks and pages to wind thru to get here would be nice. I'd like to get to this page immediately when I click on the Community's D&D tab; I don't find this page useful, and when I click on the Community button from the D&D pages, I don't want to go thru this page either (which confusingly does not follow the same format as the community pages); I want to get straight to the forums. While I'm at it, shouldn't this page have the Forum, Blogs, etc tabs at the top too? |
| #34Nod_HeroFeb 18, 2014 18:01:26 | Forums are a nightmare on the iPad.
|
| #35VoyRagerMar 25, 2014 22:59:12 | Is there a technical breakdown with the Wizards' DnD Main site right now as I post? (The Compendium isn't working by ilacking to list to begin with and also I can't sign in on the DnD main page either.)
Next question might be me panicking but I will ask: Are there other changes happening with the DnD main site that aren't covered here at the forum especially to the package us DDInsider subscribers have. And if this so changes and isn't covered here in the Wizards' DnD's forums; can someone please post a link to where this discussion on these changes that are happening this week? |

| #37The_JesterMar 27, 2014 8:22:04 | It's been six months? Is this still in the works or has it been shelved? Even if there's not enough manpower to rearrange the enture forms, they could at least rename the various boards. |
| #38neomahakala108Apr 04, 2014 21:13:11 | too many forums for newcomers' taste anyway.
|
| #39Bounty.HunterApr 10, 2014 17:11:44 | It's not just the newcomers. Even as a vet poster the sight of several dozen forums and having 3/4 of them be dead isnt exactly incentive to check out an area and see whats going on. |
| #40KruskApr 26, 2014 9:50:43 | Can you bring back the ability to collapse groups of forums I don't actually read? That was really handy. Or maybe bookmark specific forums so I can always have them at the top when signed in? Something so I don't have to scroll past all the dead sub-forums and the forums I don't care about.
Also, I had to bookmark this "http://community.wizards.com/forums/61981" to actually go to the forums. Maybe find a better navigation method from the main site so you can quickly find the forums would be a good idea. |
| #41Bounty.HunterMay 07, 2014 14:45:48 | Krusk speaks the truth. |
| #42Kram-OdlogMay 07, 2014 16:32:38 | When will 5e come out? I'm guessing this is when we will get new forums. |
| #43yusakuasanoMay 17, 2014 10:54:07 |
|
| #44Bounty.HunterMay 23, 2014 0:53:34 | It would be nice to have a lot of things... but I think that this is the end state for the forums for now. Its been nine months now and nothing has changed. |
| #45trappedsliderMay 31, 2014 0:08:11 |
|
| #46The_JesterJul 02, 2014 17:12:25 | Weren't there supposed to be forums for all editions? The forums look like the playtesting forums were renamed and wiped but no otter changes were made.
Was the wipe necassary then? Couldn't they just have renamed things? |
| #47Duke5150Jul 20, 2014 22:38:20 | My only request is to keep the setting forums separated. Otherwise, anyone trying to have topics about less popular setting will be overwhelmed by FR topics. As a dark sun, dragonlance, eberron and gamma world fan, I would be discouraged from posting if I had to search through page after page just to find setting relevant topics. Thanks. Oh, and I'd love to figure out how to break my posts into paragraphs, if anyone knows how to do that using a mobile phone. |

| #49waretaringoAug 07, 2014 17:50:34 | would be nice to have homebrew forums back? they're actually still linked to in a couple of the help/'where does my thread go' threads (http://community.wizards.com/forum/view/75882/136082/house_rules_38;_homebrew ) but the link is obviously broken. atm I guess we're supposed to post homebrew/houserule ideas as blogs, but it seems as if the blog feature gets next to -0 traffic :/ |
| #50mycroftbAug 14, 2014 20:19:30 | Seconding the request for a houserule/homebrew forum that is about rules, not just settings. With 5th Edition effectively out (Basic Rules covering character generation, monsters, encounter design are out as of the time of this writing, along with PHB prerelease), people are going to want to hack the game. Already the 5e Rules Questions forum has some threads that would be better discussed in such a Homebrew forum. |
| #51muppet1Aug 17, 2014 2:51:59 | How do you search on these new forums I have spent about 10 minutes trying to discover ? |
| #52baldhermitNov 05, 2014 21:15:56 | ..and now we get posts from the future, as all the recent ones are set for November 11th.
Way to fail at something so simple |
