I noticed all the avatars of old are gone now, but people can now upload their own pictures/photos. Through google I managed to dig up the D&D picture from which my old avatar originated and recreate it as good as memory allows. The original picture is from the 3rd edition Forgotten Realms manual published by Wizards of the coast. Now, when uploading this picture there was the question wether I owned its distribution rights or somesuch. Is it allowed to use material like this for an avatar? It would seem silly not to allow it but to be on the safe side I'd like to make sure none the less. PS: I couldn't change my country in my profile and it was a required field. The option was greyed out. It took a long time before I found out that I could just leave it as is and continue anyway. |

I wasn't worried about being sued, more about just breaking the rules and possibly receiving warnings or somesuch. I've seen a few prevalent posters with avatars from (older) D&D material in the meantime so you're probably right. Thanks for the reply. |
