Warning to all who use this community.

According to the user agreement for this site, anything you post on this site becomes the property of WotC!

Not a problem for most socializing. Facebook when through this awhile back, according to my wife and eventually removed that clause from the agreement due to the outrage of it's users. People didn't stopped sharing their photos and stories.

I originally began to post my 4e FR D&D Campaigns', lastest adventures and game session pictures to share here and have now stopped! Not that I think my game is so great that WotC would want my stuff, but it's just a bit disappointing. I really love the idea of a social networking site for us D&Ders and DM's spend too much of their own creativity and time into their game to have a clause like this. The things I post are my creations, words, pictures, comments and they need to stay that way!

WotC PLEASE REMOVE THE CONTENT OWNERSHIP CLAUSE FROM THE USER AGREEMENT!!!

ALL USERS THAT AGREE LET WotC KNOW BY POSTING:

"We love D&D and this site, but REMOVE THE CONTENT OWNERSHIP CLAUSE FROM THE USER AGREEMENT IMMEDIATELY!"

I'd be proud if Wizards borrowed one of my ideas.

Me too. I just want them to ask me first. Besides, they would be "borrowing" it from you.

Like most of the other people who have posted the same thing, you are mistaken. It does not become the property of WotC, it merely grants them a license to modify and use it without any strings attached... Just like twitters Eula (note twitter isn't a publishing company who would be risking a lawsuit without such an agreement. My second link bellow has more on this.). I have already seen someone claim WotC stole their idea and provided a post of said idea to prove it. what they failed to realize was that 6 months earlier, a prototype of that same idea was actually published in a book.

here's another thread on the subject

More discussion on this topic begins on post 11 of this thread.

It should also be noted that this ToU clause has been around for quite some time.

I hereby agree to the Terms of Use EXACTLY AS THEY ARE WRITTEN.

I read th eclause. I signed up anyway. If WotC finds one of my ideas worthy of using in a future publication, I'm quite happy. If I just happen to think of something a designer also thought of, I'm quite happy.

If you (the generic "anyone reading this" you) feel you might want to publish one of your ideas, don't post it here first.

Really, if you feel you might want to publish your work someday, posting it anywhere on the internet is likely a bad idea.

Do you actually believe some of us have said this in this thread? Or is this some failed attempt at wanting to be funny? Lastly, did you have anything useful to contribute or were you just baiting us and disrupting the thread?

Except you won't get any of the royalties the way it is worded, and they won't even have to get your permission to use it. So basically you won't get anything, not even an acknowledgement.

So if you plan on publishing anything you post, don't post it.

By posting on the forums, you are automatically giving them permission.

So if you plan on publishing anything you post, don't post it.

*reads thread again*

Nope. Don't believe anyone has said that in this thread.

Not intended to be funny either... no.

Lastly, did you have anything useful to contribute

Yes. I repeat for clarity: "We love D&D and this site, so please continiue to do exactly as you are doing!"

or were you just baiting us and disrupting the thread?

That is the least of my intentions. I stated my opinion, like everyone else has done in the thread. I appologize if it came across as something else.

It probably would have come across less sarcastically if you hadn't put your own opinion in quotes or used the royal "we".

Dead horse, meet flog.  Flog, meet dead horse.

That is to say: this isn't new.  Not to the new forums, not to the new website, not to anything.  In fact, it's actually more lenient then it used to be.

If you're that worried about your ideas being stolen by WotC, do not post them here.  Post them elsewhere in a place where you agree to the Terms of Use, and link to them.

Your first post on the forums was a joke about your name.

You win the forums. Good job.

I didn't know this had been coverd in previous fourms. This D&D "community" web site is new and just wanted everyone to at least be aware to post at your own risk. There are a ton of really creative folk here and I just wanted all to know.

For the record, I love this site, WotC and D&D, I run a 4e FR home capaign that Jackem plays in.

Jeez.

Just letting us (the non-corporate members of the forums) know would not involve an all caps, petition-invoking demand for a change to the policy.I suspect that was the source of the responses you received.

Just letting us know would more likely have received responses that explained the purpose of the TOA with much less sarcasm. That is not an excuse for the sarcasm.

Leich is right, though. Ignore it and keep posting.
