#1 Hippolyte Jan 16, 2012 15:57:40	EnWorld allows posters to give experience to each other, a more sophisticated version of Like on Facebook. Posters cannot give experience to the same person until they themselves have increased in level. The effect seems to be more insightful, better written and less trollish posts. Most people like to be recognized for their wisdom and contributions, so they like to have a high experience level. This makes people stop and think and craft meaningful and logical posts. Now I will concede that there are a great many excellent and wise posters in these fora. However the oeverall tone of discussion and usefulness of threads and posts is less than those at EnWorld. I gave up reading most of the trheads about 5E here, because most of them degenerate into arguments with no fresh ideas. On EnWorld this can happen too, but there are more threads and posts which are genuinely original or analytical or explanatory.

#3 Ash2Dust Jan 20, 2012 1:01:04	I don't think it would promote good posting habits. I think it would give people a way to say, "I agree with this poster," in the many, many fights we have here. I'm not present on EnWorld, but if it is indeed a more pleasant posting environment, i would guess that that is because either they just plain have better posters or they have different moderation policies.

Different moderation policies. We have a very large overlap in membership. However, the members behave better over there than over here.
#6 wrecan Jan 20, 2012 8:38:06	The stakes are higher here too.  Because this is the official site, there's the perception that the developers pay more attention here.  So people come here and engage in discussions, not to talk to the other people posting in the threads, but to go over their heads and talk directly to the developers.  So there's an air of desperation to these forums in that people desperately want to tear down the ideas of other people that they don't like lest a developer see it and incorporate it into the game. That impetus is a lot less at EnWorld.
#7 mudbunny Jan 20, 2012 10:41:22	It is not the Experience Points system on ENWorld that results in the friendlier atmosphere on ENWorld. Rather, it is the overall attitude of the ENWorld community that makes all the difference. Because ENWorld is a private site, the owners (and moderators) can be much stricter in the enforcement of their CoC (www.enworld.org/forum/faq.php?faq=faq_ru...) which is, I should note, orders of magnitude more vague than the WotC CoC. Many of the sniping, flaming, rudeness and general bad behaviour that is tolerated on these forums is simply not permitted over on ENWorld. In addition, when people do engage in that behaviour, there is a much higher likelihood that the other posters will not respond in kind and further proliferate the unpleasantness. People are also, in general, much more tolerant of opinions and positions that differ from their own and are more than willing to engage in conversation about that topic and attempt to understand opposing positions. This is an attitude that appears, at times, to be in very short supply on the WotC forums. The EN World forums generally hold Wheaton's Law in a much higher regard than a large number of posters do here.http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/metamorphosis-alpha/1647436
