Ok, to be clear, I have not been a WotC fan since they ruined what was a classic game. Went to Hackmaster instead of 3.0, Better flavor, more sense. Heroscape now seems to be their dump bucket for D&D minis, sad, it was a great game. Now, they have cut the boards for a game with a huge name brand that they still couldn't seem to make work. I mean really, Star Wars, and you still assed it up? I have the utmost respect for all of you who still see what was imagined by Gygax in the pablum that is shamefully now branded with the name he ceated, and more power to you, enjoy.

But realize this, Wizards is in it's death throes. They are, for lack of a better term, going ass up. And you know what, (Content Removed) 'em. Thye deserve no more loyalty from us than that which was given. They're dying because of their inability to focus on the one thing that was of the utmost importance to their survival: the customer. A lack of concern for the true heart of a game, it's meaning, drive by modding, and crippled mods. Good riddance Wizo's, lame pieces of crap, lame (Content Removed) rip offs, lame in general. Please, please, please ban me. I, and my dollars (thousands until now) won't be here to mourn your death.

No need to respond, folks.

He's upset the web pages for Star Wars have been taken down because the license was not renewed. (Something the community has known for some time.) The forums themeslves remain.

And all the material was saved by WotC. Had he read the announcement, he'd know that.

Paradoxically, Webster is not generally possessed of an inclination to the grandiloquent utilization of unnecessarily polysyllabic verbiage. At least, I have not hithertofore perceived such proclivities.

Not wishing to question his undoubted honorificabilitudinitatibus, but our nominatively arachnidian associate's responses could ofttimes be described as concise.

Terse, even.

Actually, I had a Zoolander moment, right before I googled it.

"I'm sesquipedalian."
"Wooah... You can ride a unicycle?"

In a manner of speaking. They chose to not renew it.

Only 3 or 4 years after Saga?

WotC is making weird choices. I thought Star Wars was a cashcow.

I would love to see their accounting books.

They are a subsidiary of Hasbro. You can find Hasbro's annual reports online at their website (I had to get one for a business class project 2 years ago).

Very interesting. So is Dnd profitable?

I don't know.  I haven't look at this past year's report.

Alternity was dumped at a time when it was ranked #1.

Go figure.

Just having alot of money though, does not actually translate into having any business sense, it merely means you have money available to be lost.

But I've been there for D&D since Gary gave it to us, and while I like some of the 'old stuff', I don't think all of the old stuff was 'precious' content either.

Given a choice, I would have been happier if 4th edition has been 1st edition and none of the previous editions had ever happened. Oh like I sooooo miss that convoluted THAC0.

THAC0 was one of those things that looked far more complicated than it actually was. I'm sure if they'd had AC going up rather than down, then nobody would ever have had a problem with it.

Pretty much. BaB and THAC0 basically use the same numbers, just not the same math.

-4 ac vs -4 thac0 was just too hard to do mentaly. It always took me one or two pieces of paper.

I think that's why 2e was such a "nerd" game. Most people don't want to do an algebra problem whenever they face a creature with a different AC.

THAC0 - AC = -4 - (-4) = -4 + 4 = 0

Frankly, it worries me that people are so bad at simple arithmetic these days that they consider something like this too difficult to do in their heads.

The arithmetic was never an issue to me, but you do have to admit that Thac0 and lower means better AC were counterintuitive.

THAC0 failed the KISS principle.

The current system is simpler and simpler is usually the better choice.

Just because I understand time dilation doesn't mean I like complicated math when I am trying to have fun with a game

Agreed.  THAC0 wasn't necessarily complicated.  It was, however, more complicated than it needed to be.

And even when it wasn't complicated, it was time consuimg. My old 2e group never actually did the math. We just made the DM look it up in the book every time we faced a different monster. It got to the point where the DM issued us strips of paper with a small chart of each Thac0 vs each AC from 10 to -10. Invariably, the slips of paper would get damaged or lost and we'd end up looking it up in the book all over again.

I hope nobody thinks I was trying to defend THAC0. It was a stupidly inelegant system and I'm glad we're rid of it. My point was just that it wasn't the terrifying bugbear some people these days make it out to have been. The real problem behind it was the anti-intuitive "lower AC is better" silliness, not THAC0 itself or the maths required.

I'd even go so far as to say there's more mental maths involved in 4th edition than there was in the days of THAC0, with all the conditional bonuses and penalties that can apply to attack rolls now. All that's really changed qualitatively is that we no longer ever have to remember that "minus a minus gives a plus".

StarWars is a cash cow bit I've always got the impression thats there was never really that many SWRPG players even back in the D6 days. Licensing fees must be expensive as well.

Lucas needs more money so he can make more alterations to the Star Wars movies.

I hope not.  I'd much rather have him just do the Thrawn trilogy instead.
