What happened to UnCon 4E?

Oct 16, 2008 15:11:06 You know, I just have been made aware that Uncon has come and went, without so much of a hello to the 4E groups. What the heck gives? Shouldn't someone have came up with an idea for it? Was it the whole GL issue not being completed? Every other game you are currently supporting got some attention, but not D&D.

While I understand a push for Volunteer events, shouldn't there have been some conscious staff promotional effort for at least one contest with the new system? What happened?

Just color me disappointed that I ended up missing the whole UnCon deal.

Oct 16, 2008 16:03:54 I just started the Expert Dungeon Master Challenge, so I had absolutely no time to run a 4E UnCon event this year. I hope to be able to do it next year. The 4E boards have been nuts with the advent of the new edition.

There was no staff promotional effort in any area; every event that was hosted was organized and hosted strictly by volunteers. If there were no 4E D&D events, it's solely because nobody stepped up to host them.

My other thread regarding UnCon planning was archived, which should give you an idea how little support it got.

Overall, 4E had no contests because next to no one volunteered to actually host a contest (in a way which was definitvely clear). I tried to get a main Section Organizer here for several months, but no one ever stepped up to the plate. I made sure to keep the community as informed as I could, including several warnings about the lack of events, but I'm afraid there was nothing else for me to do.

It was very depressing for me to see a major forum get left out of UnCon, but it was beyond my control. As such, this is one of my target areas for next year's planning.
