| #1JudgeDookieOct 18, 2010 16:18:27 | If everything is so up to par around here, when do you do the overhaul? Obviously, you aren't caring about complaints, so when do we get some crap fixed finally? Did the development team just give up? |
| #2JudgeDookieOct 19, 2010 20:38:25 | Thanks Thunder_Dragonbane. Thought I might hear from a developer, but glad you are around to correct me. |
| #3boraxeOct 27, 2010 11:53:42 | It will never end. As long as they keep it in "beta" they have a built-in excuse for everything that goes wrong. |
| #4lokiareOct 29, 2010 22:58:01 | It will never end. As long as they keep it in "beta" they have a built-in excuse for everything that goes wrong. Naw, they need to hire a group of programmers that actually work for a successful web development firm to start over from scratch and put out a decent site... |
| #5nshoeNov 03, 2010 23:46:49 | If everything is so up to par around here, when do you do the overhaul? Obviously, you aren't caring about complaints, so when do we get some crap fixed finally? Well, now we know. The development team was too busy completely rewriting from scratch one of the few things that worked to be bothered with fixing the things that are broken. |
| #6WebsterNov 03, 2010 23:57:44 | Another company handles the board's software, not WotC. |
| #7JudgeDookieNov 04, 2010 11:45:10 | Webster, we aren't bitching at WotC--we are bitching about the developer's...who...um...should be managed by WotC. ![]() I mean, nothing is getting better--it just gets worse. Hell, within the last 20 days I went from being "Judge Dookie" to "Judge Dook". WTF is that about? Do any of these developers know what cell padding is? It seems to me that WotC hired the wrong guy to make the wrong decision. Buy on the cheap--get it on the cheap. Fire that guy and get someone in here that knows what the hell he is doing. Bejebuz Riding a ****--HIRE ME!! I'll get it done! This is what I do! ![]() Point is, nothing has moved forward with this place. I've had a mail icon stuck in my header for nearly a year now and I only know if it is correct if I check it. And I complained about this when it first started! Not only did the developers create an inept board, but they are providing inept support. We are all living in a shack that is falling down around our heads. And if WotC doesn't care about it, who the hell does? ![]() And no, Webster, my mad face isn't for you. It's for that other guy that I can't put a face to. |
| #8zammmNov 04, 2010 13:10:48 | I'm pretty sure WotC isn't any happier about the problems than we are. However, there's almost certainly some reasons we can't see for why they can't, won't, or don't ditch OneSite and go with somebody else. Just to brainstorm a couple possibilities (I have no idea if any of these are accurate--probably not): They don't have the funds or other resources available for another platform shift. They're stuck in a contract. Their other options are worse or untenable in some way. They can't do it without losing the archives. Going with OneSite was a pet idea from above and they can't drop it thanks to office politics. Whatever the reasons, we're stuck for the moment, so we're going to have to make the best of things. |
| #9JudgeDookieNov 04, 2010 14:51:38 | I believe you are right on a couple of those, but retarded begets retarded. Perhaps I'm not checking the "influx" with the other 4e worlds, but FR has died--and not only because of the rule changes and setting, but because of these boards. They were shoddy in the set up and haven't changed. If WotC wants a fan base for FR, then they need to create a place where it happens. |
| #10JudgeDookieNov 06, 2010 22:23:39 | And thank you SO MUCH for handling this "community business". As stated, it is callled cell padding. It takes 5 minutes to handle this and no one does!! Not even a reply in over a week. Booger-buddy-snot-farts! ![]() |
| #11lomerell_dawnbringerNov 08, 2010 11:25:11 | I was just about to post this. See my signature. At work, whenever I publish a memo, announcement, or technical user guide now...or better yet, install new hardware...I just add the word "beta" somewhere on the thing. Now I have a license to incompetence. |
| #12lokiareNov 08, 2010 12:44:30 | I was just about to post this. All right! Now I'm gonna change my middle name to "beta" |
| #13JudgeDookieNov 08, 2010 18:51:06 | Actually, I believe we are the ones in "Alpha" mode, as no one else tends to notice the ![]() and just let things slide. Regardless, if I wanted to move into JudgeDookie_Beta mode, I would have to talk to these schmoes to get it done and would be waiting for...well...ever. ![]() |
| #14lokiareNov 09, 2010 23:34:21 | Just to prove how inept WotC is I put up a forum on my site that costs me $5.00 per month (the website not the forum, the forums are free). If you want to see it go to: www.darkspirepublishing.com/phpBB3/ |
| #15JudgeDookieNov 10, 2010 22:36:19 | Just to prove how inept WotC is I put up a forum on my site that costs me $5.00 per month (the website not the forum, the forums are free). If you want to see it go to: DAMMIT!!! Must you point out every little detail of how this place sux?!!! What the hell is wrong with you--have some respect!!! ![]() (hides) ![]() |
| #16zammmNov 11, 2010 14:13:29 | Just to prove how inept WotC is I put up a forum on my site that costs me $5.00 per month (the website not the forum, the forums are free). If you want to see it go to: All right, now let's see if that $5/month site with a free forum can handle multiple hundreds of thousands of members across over a hundred forums, with thread archives somewhere in the millions, post archives in the hundreds of millions, and server traffic to make your forum software and your webhost keel over and beg for mercy, and that's not even including any of the other parts of the site. I'm not trying to excuse the massive flaws in this boards system, because really, by now some of these things are just getting ridiculous, but making your own tiny little forum doesn't prove anything at all. It's like 'demonstrating' how easy world peace is by making nice with a neighborhood bully, and then proclaiming that every government in the world is obviously incompetent for not being able to live up to your example. If we want to get things fixed, we need to be realistic and constructive. Ranting and making ridiculously flawed arguments gets us nowhere and just makes WotC even less inclined to listen and take us seriously. |
| #17JorunhastNov 11, 2010 14:28:26 | If everything is so up to par around here, when do you do the overhaul? Obviously, you aren't caring about complaints, so when do we get some crap fixed finally? ![]() **you hear gnome giggles followed by a -poof- as I teleport back to the Realms forums** |
| #18JudgeDookieNov 11, 2010 14:56:57 | Dude--there is nothing ridiculous in any of the statements here. All right, now let's see if that $5/month site with a free forum can handle multiple hundreds of thousands of members across over a hundred forums.... Um. Yeah, it can. Because, when you model a business, you plan for expansion and associate such costs. ...with thread archives somewhere in the millions, post archives in the hundreds of millions, and server traffic to make your forum software and your webhost keel over and beg for mercy, and that's not even including any of the other parts of the site. My man--I am just laughing my ass off at this one. Traffic around here is about--so I would gauge--a single percentage of what it was. Not just that, you would archive the older posts on different servers to compensate for load. $5 a month from just 1000 users could compensate for that easily.
WTF? I don't beleive that was Iokiare's intent in the least--just an example of how easily things should flow. As for "incompetent", we have been proclaiming this for a year. Where's the change?
That is complete CRAP. I both posted here (politely) and personally spoke to mods (politely) concerning glitches I had developed here a year ago--glitches other people experienced as well. NOTHING was ever done. Granted, a few small glitches were addressed, but after The Exodus, WotC has decided not to bother with those who still visit these boards. This place is considered a cast off until their 4e dream brings in the bucks. That's it. That's all. |
| #19JudgeDookieNov 12, 2010 21:19:03 | Well, I had a big ass reply, but Bejebuz gave me a sign and it was stricken...with cholera, or something stupid like that. ![]() zammm can say whatever the hell he wants, but I am an IS Manager--his argument (or defense on the subject) holds no weight. He's being over-sympathetic to a lost cause. As for where I post this sh*t--the mods generally do it for me. So HA! ![]() |
| #20lokiareNov 16, 2010 12:45:15 | Well, I had a big ass reply, but Bejebuz gave me a sign and it was stricken...with cholera, or something stupid like that. Wow! Well I have a challenge for ya, get all your friends to come to my site sign up at the forums and try to overload the server. Lets see if my little $5 website can handle the traffic of the WotC forums. Seriously pick a day and time and get a bunch of people to start posting there... |
| #21jeff-heikkinenNov 17, 2010 1:44:17 | JudgeDookie: You cannot reason with zammm. Zammm is not the one refusing to be reasoned with here. |
| #22lokiareNov 18, 2010 16:01:43 | Does anyone else feel that the 4e and the DDI are beta and that we are paying for this beta test? I feel that pre-essentials 4E wasn't beta... It was awesome or gold or whatever term they use in publishing. Now the essentials thing looks like an attempt to create a new version that is backwards compatible, I have a problem with that. They took all the good stuff out of 4E like choices and options and then simplified everything to the point that people are asking "So what I hit it, and then hit it again?". If they would develop the two in parallel I'd be fine with it, but all the books on the schedule are essentials books... Now DDi from the standpoint of a developer and someone who works with software (both as a developer and a customer) is utter trash... Its fancy nice looking trash, but trash none the less. Give me a month or two and I'll have all the same tools WotC is trying to get up and running on my site, but for the game I'm releasing, not D&D (I so wish I could do it for D&D)... Check what I've got so far at www.darkspirepusblishing.com |
| #23JudgeDookieNov 21, 2010 22:33:15 | Eh--don't get bent out of shape like me. We've seen this sh*t coming for two years now. Wow! I would have to be Ashton Kutcher--tweet me? ![]() But that was sort of the point. The claim was outrageous. |
| #24drowbattlemindNov 22, 2010 6:55:49 | I was just about to post this. Not me, I'm planning on hyphenating mine. Unless your talking about your call-sign instead of your real name, then I'd change it to "Drow_Battlemind, Beta Edition" |
