This makes zero sense to me.
Think for a moment about the new direction 4e is going in, then see if it sparks a hint.
If you still don't get it, think about what *other* forum setup it looks like.

Okay, just looking over the list, here is where we currently stand:
Char Build: Being split into 5 forums
Char Opt: Very busy, but okay for now given the nature and history of the forum.
Rules Q&A: We can't split it, since we have one official rules Q&A forum. We also want people to use the search feature to find things on this forum.
DM Advice: Nice to see the traffic here. I think it's good where it is.
Forgotten Realms: I think we're good so far, but we'll watch over the coming weeks to see how much the traffic increases.
Eberron: Looks good as a single forum for now.
Previous Edition Forums: They are looking pretty good on all accounts.

I would imagine that the closer we get to the FR 4E launch, they will split off various forums for it. Until a month ago, there were only a handful of 4E forums and mostly 3E ones. Now its the other way around as they ramp up for Friday. I would say that come beginning of August you will see more and more FR forums popping up, and after Gen Con there will be a full plethora of forums for people to talk about the classes, the races, etc.

Why would a campaign setting need more than one board? Gone are the days when the Forgotten Realms got its own ruleset, so why would FR need a special board for magic, a special board for classes, etc? It only needs a single board to discuss the campaign setting.
Perhaps, if FR really does get a lot of threads (that don't really belong on the Classes, Magic, etc. Boards) there could be a split to have one for geography and one for personalities, but seriously, the Realms is a single subject area.

There is a lot of activity there, which creates a problem for people, like me, who post there. Threads get lost quickly. If its a space problem, merge the Dragon and Dungeon thread since there is only a handful of active threads. Or merge some of the character boards. But why screw over the FR people

I'm looking at the front page (25 threads), and it looks like the only real problem is that normally associated with any transitional period.
- 3e Threads do not have to be there. Once the transition to 4e is complete, most new 3e Realms threads will be best kept on the 3e Boards. This applies to any 3e Realms thread that involves a game mechanic.
- 4e "Realms" threads seem to be better placed elsewhere on the 4e Boards.
[INDENT] - 4e does not have "Realms classes" with any distinction from "non-Realms classes". Place Class threads on the appropriate class / character build Board.
- 4e does not have "Realms magic" with any distinction from "non-Realms magic". Place magic threads on the appropriate magic Board.
- 4e does not have "Realms races" with any distinction from "non-Realms races". Place race threads on the appropriate races Board.

- The 3e distinction applies to 9 of the 25 threads (36%). These threads do not belong on a 4e Board.
- The 4e not-really-the-Realms distinction applies to 3 of the 25 threads (12%)
- Not Realms-related-at-all threads account for 6 of the 25 (24%). These threads should not have been on a Realms Board in the first place.
- Only 7 of the 25 threads (28%) appear to be 4e FR related.These 7 threads should be on a 4e Realms Board.
Once posters become educated to the new 4e Boards layout and categorization (and once Realms fans come to the realization that the Forgotten Realms is no longer a different game), Realms traffic should drop by roughly 72%. More than enough traffic reduction for a single Board, dedicated to the campaign world, to handle.

Now since the Realms isn't exaclty a 4th edition setting and there is no previous edition forum for the Realms specifically it only makes sense to try to have some split, even though there will be 2 of each versions of fluff and crunch under the restructed Realms.
