Why is there no "mark as read" feature?

Marking as read all threads in a forum or subforum is an essential means of managing forum reading. It helps you identify threads that have new posts since you last visited.

Threads that you haven't read, appear in bold text. Non bold when you've read them. Threads that you have read, and have new posts since the last time you've read them, have a magenta box next to them with the number of new posts. And if you click on that magenta box, it takes you right to that spot in the tread so you don't have to try and figure out were you left off.

What it doesn't do is tell you how many new posts are in threads that you haven't read or clicked on. However, threads with the most recent posts are closest to the top.

I think that may be the way it supposed to work, but there is no way that it is working as intended. I can enter a forum for the first time in a week and have a mixture of bold and non bold threads and have never read the nonbold threads. The oldest post in the thread is also too new to have been in the old forums also, so that is not the cause.

I also would like to see the return of the "mark threads as read" feature as I found it very useful.
