Now does that make any sense? The forum should be in the D&D Community forum. I don't understand why you moved around all the forums from the very concise and logical layout they were in before you changed everything up. Frankly I'm surprised nobody else has brought this topic up. |
| #2drnickSep 01, 2009 11:01:24 | I'm surprised you haven't noticed people bringing this up. Maybe you didn't look very hard? I've read three or four different posts regarding this very topic since the new forums came online. |
| #3celloshaneSep 01, 2009 11:03:29 | The organization of the forums is still being modified and you can find a thread discussing issues with the organization in the Community Business forum. However, 4e General Discussion has always been part of D&D Fundementals, and does not belong in D&D Community because that section is not edition specific. It has been a long standing request that General Discussion not be the first forum in the Fundementals section, so I don't expect it's position to change greatly. |
| #4EscefSep 01, 2009 11:04:06 | That's where it was before the redesign. However, with a lack of line breaks or other easy visual queues, it is now harder to spot. |
| #5slobo777aSep 01, 2009 11:06:27 | Now I have a Profile page, I'd quite like to be able to bookmark the forums I regularly visit as part of my profile . . . not sure if this is on the cards? |
| #6Seeker95Sep 01, 2009 11:20:02 | I'm glad it is halfway down the page / in the middle of the list. It clears up the clutter that it tended to get when everone assumed that whatever they wanted to post about was General. Hopefully, once the kinks are worked out, we find General still sitting somewhere other than the top of the list. |

For once Seeker95 I agree completely. ![]() |
| #8StuntmanSep 01, 2009 11:31:55 | In the old forums, many people were complaining that everyone and their mother was simply posting on the General Discussion forum. It seemed that people either do not bother or do not know that they should look for the proper forum to post in first. Then if they are not sure where to post, they post in the General forum. When General was at the top, people just post there because it is one of the first forums they see. There were so many threads in General that were moved practically every single day. Now that the General form is buried in the middle somewhere, it forces people to find the right forum to post things. Hopefully this will reduce the number of threads that need to be moved from General to the proper thread. |
| #9Darkwolf_BloodsbaneSep 01, 2009 12:48:31 | The problem with that is that there is no logical order of the sub-forums AT ALL. They're not in Alpha-order, the "Class role" forums are split up, eratta's at the top. And, what was the problem with people posting to the general forum? |
| #10celloshaneSep 01, 2009 13:26:45 |
The dev's are aware that the sub-forums are not in order. It may be sometime before the issue is addressed though due to the amount of changes that still need to be made. The problem with people posting to the general forum is that if General is at the top of the list it becomes the first place most users post every thread. This leads to an inordinate amount of traffic in General as well as an increased workload for the VCLs to place those threads in the appropriate forums. |
| #11Seeker95Sep 01, 2009 14:24:08 | And, what was the problem with people posting to the general forum? People posted Class threads in General. People posted Monster threads in General. People posted Website concern threads in General. People posted Race threads in General. People posted Forgotten Realms threads in General. People posted DDI threads in General. People posted Eberron threads in General. People posted Magic Item threads in General. People posted Trap threads in General. People posted WaDMtD? threads in General. People posted Rule Question threads in General. People posted Optimize Me threads in General. Basically, peole were posting everything in General, even if it had another appropriate forum. |
| #12anubis_reynardSep 01, 2009 15:03:37 | Question is, where do threads about the Skill Powers go? |
| #13zackblackSep 01, 2009 17:07:45 | I think that there are too many sub forums for my taste. Yes having everything in the general forum is annoying but it's also difficult when you have a topic that might be relevant to three (or more) sub forums, you pick one to post it in and find that it's been moved somewhere else. |
| #14wrecanSep 01, 2009 17:10:34 | We're trying to get an Skills, Skill Challenges & Quests forum set up. In the meantime... |
| #15wrecanSep 01, 2009 17:14:12 | having everything in the general forum is annoying It's more than annoying -- it's a detriment to the community. New threads get pushed to the secdon page before people can see it. People have to look in the appropriate forum and in General Discussion just to see if their topic had already been addressed. General Discussion should be a forum of last resort. If your thread has multiple topics, choose one, either the topic most central to the thread, or the topic that gets the most traffic. Don't post here just because you can't choose between Defenders and Equipment for a thread asking about how to best equip your defender. |

Wrecan I believe Anubis_reynard was referring to the recent preview of powers that are assigned by skill level and not class. Since it's PHB III preview material, it should go in Future Releases until PHB III is published. After that if we still don't have a Skills forum, I would suggest you put the thread in the appropriate Role forum for your character. Sound right Wrecan? |
| #17wrecanSep 01, 2009 19:03:38 | Yes, that sounds about right. Thanks. |
| #18onemanhordeSep 02, 2009 1:29:56 | Shouldn't this be in Community Buisness |
| #19zackblackSep 02, 2009 8:59:37 |
Zackly my point! Where a post "should" go is fairly arbitary and annoying when it's moved. |
| #20wrecanSep 02, 2009 10:49:26 | Zackly my point! Where a post "should" go is fairly arbitary and annoying when it's moved. I don't see how you can say it's "arbitrary" when threads are moved to more appropriate forums. It may be inconvenient for the author to have to go to a new forum to find his thread, but it's not arbitrary. And the inconvenience to the author is, in my opinion, outweighed by the added convenience to everybody else of being able to find topics in their appropriate forums. |
