Why Was I Banned?

Jun 25, 2008 19:13:54 Yesterday I created a post in Astrid's Parlor titled "The Interplay of Insecurity and Fantasy" around 3 PM. I created the thread in response to an off-topic discussion that had started in another thread ("Sexy Images of Men?") and several other users had expressed interest in discussing.

In my initial post, I asked other users to chime in with their thoughts, and promised to return and post my own later that evening after my Tuesday night game.

When I got home from my game at 11 PM, I logged in and was told I'd been banned for 24 hours for violating section 3 of the code of conduct, and the message in my inbox said I'd been banned for "trolling."

I don't understand this at all. I started a thread about a topic that several other users had expressed specific interest in discussing, my post contained no inflammatory language -- in fact, all it contain was a request for people to start the conversation without me and a promise to return later and add my own thoughts.

For the life of me I cannot figure out what I did wrong. The message I received from whatever WizO banned me is very baffling. This is what it said:

I could list the users who are going crazy with the report button. Their the same ones who show up in every thread, trying to shout down every poster who says anything in criticism of 4th edition. While that might seem comendable to some, quite frankly alot of first time posters are getting attacked and driven away and i think it's bad for business.This same crowd i speak of who refuse to ignore people they disagree with and actively contribute to the troll infestation by fostering their growth. But that would be baiting so i digress...

By the by, I'm a 4e lover and think 4e "haters" should be allowed their "vent"...it's their hobby, too. People just need to get thicker skins, is all.

Actually no. I see very few devoted anti posters opposed by a large pack of 4th ed groupies who go around and attack every poster with even the least bit negative thing to say about 4th edition. There are so many threads devoted to this non-issue it is sad. And this fence you speak of....there is no side to be taken man. I like both editions previous and current. But these people i speak of are extremely annoying in their fanaticism. Some problems with the game are to be expected. Nothing is perfect. Let people have their say and lets not forget why we come here in the first place..

If you have questions about your email, please just reply to the email with the question.

The forums are not the place to complain about it.

To be fair, I don't think the OP necessarily counts as complaining, although it may or may not be the secret motive of the poster. I'm new to these forums myself and I think it's a healthy exercise to have all of this stuff out in the open. There are other forums on the internet with moderation problems and I personally like to be aware of the particulars.
